I am proud to be Scots and British and see no contradiction in either. Strongly anti-Scottish Nationalist too. Have been anti-Socialist for most of my life and a monarchist and patriotic type.
In sport, it is Glasgow Rangers. a Team proudly in the British and loyalist tradion. Nicknamed the "Gers" - "light blues" -"the bears". Especially like them when they beat the Pope's lot from the East End (Glasgow Celtic).
As for religion, staunch Protestant (obvious above!),Presbyterian and a member of the national Kirk or Church - the Church of Scotland. May move though as I think it is selling out the traditional Protestant cause. Hold office in the Orange Order at city level in Glasgow (which has 182 lodges) and national office on the Royal Black Order (have to be Orangeman to be in it). Been a public speaker ar meetings and public rallies and been interview on private radio and the BBC Radio. Briefly once ion BBCTV-Scotland.
Spent much of my life in The Boys' Brigade where I was captain on the largest Company of the 30 odd in the western quadrant of the city and once third of the hundred or so units in Glasgow. Although companies are attached to Protestant Churches anyone can join and my unit had a large number of boys from both Prot and RC backgrounds. Indeed many parents from RC families greatly supported my work and my officers and no difference were made. Boys became NCO's and officers by me on merit nothing else. In my life I have met a number of well known including two First Ministers of Scotland and N. Ireland, odd Lords religious leaders and a Knight who was a Major-General and kept in touch for years.
Have been involved in politics off an on and stood for the City Council twice and without success (unfortunately for Glasgow). Still take an interest however and enoy a good "stushie" (argument for non-Scots. In other areas interests include trains and trams. Recently built the whole of the former Glasgow tramway system which closed in 1962 (was biggest outside London) using a rail simulator programme. Now building the Northern Ireland Railway Company. Art, music, walking, travelling are part of my enjoyment.
I am a varied character with many sides - woem regard me as a diamond! Those who meet me rarely forget the experience!
