rose's random rambly writings

...really!

If I should ever change my name

I was listening to the radio with one ear when something caught my attention.
I can no longer recall what program it was, or what it was about, but I do remember the name of one of the guests.

It was Rosetta Sten. Sten in Swedish means stone. Rosetta Stone.

What am I on about? Read about the Rosetta stone here.
Kudo's to Rosetta's parents!

(Made me think of a poor Eva Brun I met once (and yes, brun in Swedish means brown. Or braun in German.).)

Lost...Quick thinking

Well, we have Golden Brown as PM - it's a little disturbing.

Would you ever change your name? rose-marie is a  name

rose-marie 11. September 2007, 21:39

:sing: Never a frown, with golden brown :sing:

Thanks
I used to hate my name when I was younger, but now i've grown accustomed to it. I'm named after my two grandmothers, so I think I'll stick with rose-marie for a while longer.

theoddbod 11. September 2007, 21:45

It's the 'texture like sun' that I find particularly worrying :ko:

'Mart' is ok, but I've never been comfortable with 'Martin' :irked:.

rose-marie 11. September 2007, 21:50

 Good song, though.

There's nothing wrong with Martin! Why are you uncomfortable with that? (Presuming that's your real name.)

Dacotah 11. September 2007, 22:07

I agree Mart. I like your name Rose-Marie.

theoddbod 11. September 2007, 22:10

I'm not sure...I don't meet many of them. I haven't met one younger than me for years. There's a bit of a geek association with it (and I'm not helping ).
It is my real name, though.

Dacotah 11. September 2007, 22:13

I like the name Martin.
There is an actor here named Martin Lawrence (I'm not sure how to spell his last name.)

rose-marie 11. September 2007, 22:21

Thank you Dacotah! :D

It's interesting how differently names can be looked upon... Martin is a very common name in Sweden - especially for our generation.

Dacotah 11. September 2007, 22:25

You are welcome Rose-Marie. :D

I have a bro-in-law called Martin. I quite like the name. I'm somewhat uncomfortable with what I think of as 'new suburban' names...Britney and other names recently popularised. Here in NZ there's a penchant for names like 'Harley' and (even worse) 'Chevvy'. Don't know whether to laugh or what, to be honest. So - not much wrong with Martin, at all IMHO.

funz81 13. September 2007, 02:13

Rose, i think you have a nice name. no one would look for Rose on something kinky on search engines :left: i have an aunt named Rose. now i think you're a whole lot older than me... just like her P: :D

@ Mart: yes Martin... there's nothing wrong with your name. you have a nice name, Martin! so from now on i'm gonna start calling you Martin... :D

@ Rick : Chevvy? Harley? :eyes: :ko:

rose-marie 13. September 2007, 07:12

Thanks Fanny. But you'd be amazed if you knew what people combine "rose" with when browsing the net. And you are right. I'm a whole lot older than 17...

Actually, that was one of the reasons I really didn't like my name. Only old (ok, maybe middle-aged) women are called Rose-Marie. I still haven't met anybody my age or younger with that name in Sweden. It seems to be more popular in other parts of Europe, though.

:sst:Rick? :left::right:

funz81 13. September 2007, 07:27

:left::right: oops...

better go and make a sorry PM :left:

oh i've just realized that Mart said on his comment that he hasn't met anyone named Martin younger than him... well of course... you're older than anyone, Mart P: (guess... you too Rose... P: )

Hello, and welcome to the geriatric section here on my.opera.
We'll be serving porridge today and first prize on the bingo is a brand new hearing aid.

A friend's grandmother was admitted to an old folk's home.
She was bored one night (and maybe a litte bit cuckoo too), so she snuck into several bedrooms and stole people's false teeth.

The next morning she showed up at breakfast with a bag, shouting: "Let's play bingo!" while reaching into the bag and fishing out a set of false teeth.

flamingo rinse 14. September 2007, 08:01

 Sounds like my kind of grandma

rose-marie 14. September 2007, 08:47

I hope I'll be able to amuse myself like that when I get old(er). :D

funz81 14. September 2007, 11:29

what d'ya mean by getting older? p: you're doing that on friday night :left:

rose-marie 14. September 2007, 21:54

Oh sorry... Were those your false teeth..? :eyes: p:

H82typ 15. September 2007, 22:25

I'll even go with Harley, but Chevy(or Chevvy)~shudder~ is slang for Chevrolet, here. Ain't nothin' wrong with Rose- Marie! It's a beautiful name.
.
. grandma...

rose-marie 15. September 2007, 22:31

Thanks Dennis. :D

Whenever I hear Chevy, I think of Chevy Chase - and then my mind wanders on to Fletch. :left:

flamingo rinse 16. September 2007, 03:31

 yes, the point is that the parents knowingly named their little boy (chevvy) after the dad's favourite car. A similar reasoning can be found for kids called Harley (and you'd really be surprised how common that name is here). The real Chevy Chase is actually an exclusive road in Hollywood or somewhere, isn't it? Stick with Rose-Marie, Rose-Marie....it's a good name

rose-marie 16. September 2007, 12:05

Thanks Nick. I'm not about to change my name anytime soon.

Re: Chevy... I hope nobody has Mini as their favourite car... p:

H82typ 16. September 2007, 13:24

:yikes:Close! My family called me 'little Den' for years! Til I was in my teens.:left::irked:

Khaled-Khalil 30. September 2007, 06:59

Rose-Marie sounds awesome, though if you decided to change it later, i find Nefertiti a good name, but that doesn't change the fact it is little older, may be the younger friend i know with this name was an Egyptian queen of the eighteenth dynasty (about 14'th century BC) P:
anyway, being the only Rose of your generation make you unique

@theoddbod, Mart sound nice, but i like martin more  (better with french "in" ("un"))

@Dacotah, i believe Lawrence could be pronounce as "lorans", but that's in english, i can't be sure how the writen language is to be translated to the spoken language!

for me, me to i used to hate my name, but anyway, i am happy no one here could pronouce it :D

you looks a nice group of friends
i am sorry for intermeddling

Dacotah 30. September 2007, 08:38

hi Khaled Khalil, thank you.

rose-marie 30. September 2007, 10:29

Hi, and welcome, Khaled Khalil.

Thank you for your input! I'm not changing my name anytime soon, and certainly not to Nefertiti. (Do people in Egypt still use Nefertiti as a name?)
Even though the name itself is beautiful, I would feel like an impostor! p:
