...really!

From Berlin with love

, ,

So... I had to do a post about my latest trip to Berlin before Zaphira came back from Hamburg.
About time then .

Even though this was my fifth time in Berlin, I did some things I have never done there before...Left: I had a currywurst. It didn't taste curry at all.
Right: I had a beer bigger than my head in a biergarten. :D

Another thing I had never done before was visiting Potsdam - the Preussian kings' residence:Left: Sans Souci
Right: Neue Palais
We were there for hours, just walking around in the enormous park. No need to say, I'll have to visit indoors too the next time I go...

Berlin is a hotspot when it comes to culture. This time around, I had some very different musical experiences:Left: One night, I went to a Balkan Beat concert in the famous Kaffee Burger - a place that looks like somebody's living room. And it's about the same size too.
Right: The night after I got free tickets to the Berliner Philharmonie. As it happened, it was a Norwegian contemporary orchestra, Asamisimasa (no, I don't know them personally), who performed that day. I left during the break (:o:), but it was nice to see the interior of such a famous place.

I don't have much to say about this, except I seem to love taking picutres of Alex, the TV-tower that got its pet name from where it's located - Alexanderplatz.Even though it's just a ball on a pole, I think it's a fascinating photo object that almost never turns out the same way on my photos. :D

And here are some weird "sightseeing" shots :lol:Top left: Oberbaumbrücke. One of the landmarks in ex-East Berlin. Looks like something from a fairytale, doesn't it?
Top right: Interior from the Sony Center on Potsdamer Platz. Potsdamer Platz was once a busy square, but when the Berlin Wall was built, it was deserted and practically became no man's land. Nowadays, they are re-building the status the square once had with, among other, the Sony Center. There is a brick road along the path that once was the wall.
Bottom left: Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche - sometimes referred to as the rotten tooth due to the severed top. It was bombed during WWII but this tower and some of its interor still stands. They have built a new church in connection to it, and the old building is a memorial hall.
Bottom right: On May 1st - Labour Day - I happened upon a celebration on Brandenburger Tor, and what else could I do than have a drink to celebrate my hard labour?

I'll leave you with a panoramic photo of one of my favourite places in Berlin - Gendarmenmarkt:I like just sitting here, looking at people and the beautiful surroundings. The place has two cathedrals (the French and the German) facing each other with the Concert Hall in the middle.

Of course, these are only some of the things I did during my seven days but I hope you enjoyed the tour anyway.

Thanks for the tour and wonderful photos. I am glad you had a good time there... and few drinks, of course *remembers good german beer*
Sigh....
It seems I will stay in Belgrade for entire year unless I got totaly insane and spend the last euro on some crazy trip :headbang:

rose-marie 16. May 2009, 17:39

Thanks for joining me on the tour, Darko. :D
Although the pictures aren't exactly wonderful, they are quite representative, I think...
And hey - a crazy trip sounds like fun

theoddbod 16. May 2009, 17:51

Currywurst? That's just wrong, somehow p:

gdare 16. May 2009, 18:09

I spent about 10 days in December 1990. in Berlin, attending a kendo seminar and competition. We were in Hermsdorf, northern part of Berlin. We had enough time between two trainings to walk through center and see some interesting stuff. It was about 6 months after the wall was opened. Now, I can`t believe it was 19 years ago Homer: Doh!

Moesring 16. May 2009, 18:34

We were there for hours, just walking around in the enormous park. No need to say, I'll have to visit indoors too the next time I go...

You aren't going soon, are you? awww

The picture I like the most is the interior of the Sony Center.
:sst: Of course, the picture of the beer bigger than your head was a close second due to having an awesome forehead on it.:swoon::yes:

Phantom2 16. May 2009, 18:40

Thanks for the tour ...looks like you had a great time!

But I'm starting to wonder if you and Zaphira are really International Spies or sumpthin the way you both just take off on Holidays...

rose-marie 16. May 2009, 18:54

Mart - That's why I didn't try it until now. Turns out there's nothing curry about it, but I suspect the yellow seasoning on top ot the sauce is curry. Didn't taste of it though...

Darko - I haven't been to Hermsdorf (I think), but I do think a lot of things have changed in the city centre since you were there. :psmurf: p:

No, Moe - I haven't planned my next Berlin visit yet. p:
I would think the glowing forehead would outdo the Sony Center. awww

Thanks for joining, P2! I had a great time!
As for the rest of your comment: :zip:

Moesring 16. May 2009, 19:08

Unfortunately, there isn't enough of that beautiful forehead on the picture for my liking. awww
:hint hint:

rose-marie 16. May 2009, 19:10

But... but... it's not covered with anythng but sunshine on this picture! p:

Excellent photos, Ms Rose! Good that - even with a stomach full of sausage and beer - your holiday got even better ... ! :eyes:

(For some reason, a strange image just popped into my head of you stumbling half-drunk around Germany, threatening to glass people with your empty beer and screaming incoherently, "What curry? What curry?" )

rose-marie 16. May 2009, 22:33

*watches P2 doing the jazz hands* :left: :right: Somebody recognizing this?

Carol - Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the little insight to my week away. :D

David - Thanks! I had two sausages and two beers on my entire trip. Then I switched to weinschorle...

About the image in your head... :left: :right: were you there? nervous

Zaphira 17. May 2009, 07:22

Talk about a last minute post!

It looks as if you had a great time there, and I think Berlin have so many cool places that you can keep seeing something new every time you get back.

I adore the forehead!

Spaggyj 17. May 2009, 09:51

rose-marie 18. May 2009, 07:17

David - What? :o:

Cois - So you never got past the second photo, eh? p:
I could never drink 20 of those! :faint:

Zap - I know! Really last minute!. I agree - there are many things that are yet to be explored, as well as many places that deserve many visits.
I can't wait to see your post(s) from Hamburg!

And thanks... :o:

Kimmie - Thanks for joining!
I had a great time! Today I saw an ad for a new airline route Oslo-Berlin. I wonder if that's an omen... :sherlock:

Issy - Thanks! :D

Herm - It was a lot of fun! Going through the photos showed that most of them were of people I know. That's why the mix here might seem a bit... odd. But thanks for your kind words anyway!

Cois 19. May 2009, 12:10

:drunk:

Dacotah 19. May 2009, 17:41

:drunk:? :D

rose-marie 19. May 2009, 20:22

After 20 of those beers, I'd suspect so... p:

Cois 19. May 2009, 22:29

Hmmm.. Not a chance p:

rose-marie 21. May 2009, 10:23

awww Better luck next time, then! p:

rose-marie 22. May 2009, 10:19

Oh, by the way. I finally got around to resizing my photos (yes, Darko... p:) and would very much appreciate it if a phoney could tell me if this post was smaller/loading faster.

gdare 22. May 2009, 22:18

You didn`t have to resize them because of me  :D

rose-marie 23. May 2009, 11:21

 It wasn't because of you, but you reminded me of it. I have been thinking about that for a while, but keep forgetting.
These pictures are scaled down to 20% now. I hope that's ok.

gdare 23. May 2009, 19:31

For me photos were ok even without resizing :D

rose-marie 24. May 2009, 13:03

Yes, but you're not a phoney. In that particular sense of the word... p:

gdare 24. May 2009, 13:13

Suntana 26. May 2009, 17:35

Currywurst? If I didn't know better, I'd swear those were Fries.

Nice Pic of a young Kathleen Turner drinking a pitcher of Beer. :D

rose-marie 27. May 2009, 08:20

Haha! Well, the wurst tried to hide under a mountain of fries, but did catch a piece of it on the picture :D.

Kathleen Turner?
*googles*
Oh, her! Don't don't know why I thought about Catherine Hepburn Homer: Doh!.
I haven't heard that. I get Liz Taylor sometimes, though.

Zaphira 27. May 2009, 08:22

Pretty! Very pretty! flirt

rose-marie 27. May 2009, 08:58

*melts*

Ps, Carlos - that may look like a pitcher, but it's a regular sized German beer p:.

Suntana 27. May 2009, 14:42

I hope Kathleen Turner came out as a compliment. It was meant as one. Kathleen Turner was the Hot & Sexy Queen Seductress :queen: of the 80s. :D

rose-marie 27. May 2009, 21:10

Ah! Thank you. :o:
I did see her in a couple of movies, but couldn't place the name. Quickly remembered when I saw some old pictures of her.
