rose's random rambly writings

...really!

Mission accomplished!

, ,

Here's my second attempt to post this.
When I had posted this earlier, I noticed there were four instances of the post saved. Believing that the one on the top would be the last, most updated, one I deleted the other three. Of course, the ready, published post wasn't on the top and so it was deleted :frown:.
I couldn't find it in the cache either, so I had to write the whole thing over again Homer: Doh!
Here goes...

First of all, I must admit I wasn't very sorry for leaving this country.
This is the view from the airport as I was waiting to board the aircraft on what should have been a nice, sunny summer day in July:
However, my mood switched swiftly as I set foot in Rimini in that boot shaped country further south in Europe. As I landed in the evening, I decided to postpone the martini search and decided to go out and have a drink instead...

During the next couple of weeks I...
  • ...got a chafe from a pair of my flip flops! :eyes: I didn't even know that was possible!
  • ...took a bus to the world's oldest sovereign state. Extra bonus points to the whoever can guess which one that is...
  • ...was amazed over the number of items with pictures of despots sold in said state. I mean, selling wine and beer with pictures of Hitler, Lenin, Che, Mao... not to mention all the items with Mussolini and some of his catch phrases. That's just not a gimmick anymore :yuck:. If anybody has an idea what that's all about, please let me know as I'm really wondering.
  • ...slept on what shall only be know as the concrete slab hereafter. I woke up every night, numb on the side I was sleeping on. One night I woke up on my back, having lost all feeling in both my hands :insane:!
  • ...switched stupid concrete slab to a one-room suite in a really cool design hotel in the old part of the city. I slept like a baby there .
  • ...bathed many times in the ocean. Funny waves :D.
  • ...once again had to realize that my school Italian isn't good enough for longer conversations, but it does make it a little easier to be understood.
  • ...saw lots of people riding on electrical bicycles and now I want one too!
  • ...wondered whether there were more doves or Russians there.
  • ...stumbled upon a market in the city one night. It was pretty cool - like a flea market mixed with arts&crafts. Among other things, I noticed there was a booth selling furs. It was 28° out and I wondered who on earth would want to buy a fur. Especially on a hot midnight in August :faint:.
  • ...took a train to Ravenna - once the capital in the Western Roman Empire. This was the one day it rained, but it was still a nice day with lots of walking around/sightseeing.
  • ...ate lots of heavenly ice cream!

These things didn't make me less observant, though. Keeping my eyes open made me find a poster of a Martini circus that was coming to town (unfortunately I didn't manage to take a picture of it), Martini bicycles and Fiat Sartinis (obviously a bad mis-spelling  ) among other things.
But lo and behold! Searching does pay off, and on the last night I finally found it!I rewarded myself with an appletini :yum: .

Of course, all things must come to an end and when I got back... well... it sort of felt like the circle was closed. Weather wise, that is awww.
There really isn't much to say about the second part of my vacation. It rained the whole time, and the most exciting thing that happened was when a couple of deer ran out in front of the car while driving on a narrow mountain road on a dark, rainy night.

In a way it's good to be back, though. I missed you and I'm eager to see what you've been up to :D.

I don't see any mentions of Martini spas - only circuses. awww
Don't tell me that the clue was a red herring. Homer: Doh!

rose-marie 25. August 2009, 18:13

I think the whole experience was like a spa. At least I felt very relaxed after two weeks :D.

Zaphira 25. August 2009, 18:16

It sure sounds nice - I'd love to visit Italy again. I haven't had Italian at school, but I still got my little dictionary from when I went there. :D

And... whoa... would love to go to a night market with you!

It's good to have you back!

rose-marie 25. August 2009, 18:19

Thanks Kitty .
It would have been even greater to visit the "standard" market they had twice a week. It covered quite a big area with a nice, big shoe area

Moesring 25. August 2009, 18:20

There really isn't much to say about the second part of my vacation. It rained the whole time

Good idea not saying much. You wouldn't want to make me (more) jealous by telling me how you hoarded all the rain. Do you realise that it has been sunny here because you wouldn't share? awww:furious::melt:
:D

Zaphira 25. August 2009, 18:23

Did you buy shoes, Rose!???? :curious:

Spaggyj 25. August 2009, 18:28

What's an electrical bicycle? :intrigued: a night market sounds awesome! Also, it's so weird you'd drink an Appletini, I've watched little else but Scrubs for the last five days and the main character drinks those all the time, and I'd never heard of them before :D .
Glad to have you home again, sweet flower

rose-marie 25. August 2009, 18:30

Damn you, Moe!
:sst. It's supposed to rain here for the rest of the week now. Interested? :left:

No, I didn't buy any shoes this time. I didn't even get to see the entire shoe area awww.

Moesring 25. August 2009, 18:31

Very.
:wakes up just to hear more about all that wonderful rain heading Wosie's way:

rose-marie 25. August 2009, 18:32

Thanks Kimmie
An electrical bicycle has a chargeable battery and helps you pedal easily up hills and stuff.
Except I never see the Rimini people pedal at all. Their bicycles were more like mini mopeds p:.
J.D drinks appletinis? It's really tasty so I can understand that, though .

rose-marie 25. August 2009, 18:35

Moe - If I could I'd give it to you. For free, even!

Spaggyj 25. August 2009, 18:37

Oh cool! So if you've been riding around for ages, you can just, like, flip a switch and put the help on? Or is it constant?
:sst: I hate mopeds :D .
Yeah, it's like a running joke. Stuffs so green! What's it taste like? ...aside from "appley" :left:

ellinidata 25. August 2009, 18:38

welcome back Rosie,
it seems like a great time!
any market that includes Italian shoes will grab my attention too! :smile:I hope you visit the "regular" in your next visit...it is an experience of it's own!

thanks for sharing

rose-marie 25. August 2009, 18:47

Kimmie - yup, you just flip a switch and choose how much help you want . I'm not sure I'd dare using it in the middle of the city among trams, tramlines, idiot drivers/bicyclists/pedestrians, but still... I want one p:.

Thanks Angeliki :D.
I did visit the regular market. Twice (or three times, I forget), even. But I still never got around to seeing all the shoes .

Spaggyj 25. August 2009, 18:51

:sing: cool :D

Hermitess 25. August 2009, 19:39

Welcome back Rose!
Sounds like you had an exciting vaca! :D

I'm jealous of all the trips you go on. :worried:

Dacotah 25. August 2009, 20:48

Happy you are back Rose-Marie.
Like your photos.
Sorry it rained so much.
Bad bed. :irked:
:D

gdare 25. August 2009, 22:17

So, you have been in Rimini and visited San Marino as well
Wherever you swam it was not ocean P: but probably good old Adriatic sea. I must tell you it looks better on the other side so next time consider to visit Croatia, I would suggest Hvar, Brač or Vis islands, maybe Korčula as well

But you had a nice time and it was the most important  Welcome back!

SqueakeyCat 25. August 2009, 22:25

I hope things are better for you there in Italy than they were before where you lived. Take care of yourself and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Cois 26. August 2009, 00:48

I've done nothing awww

clean 26. August 2009, 00:50

Welcome back, flower lady!

Furie 26. August 2009, 09:30

Welcome home Wosie. I've had a sex change and died since you've been away. awww

gdare 26. August 2009, 11:08

Death occured as a consequence of a sex change? P:

Spaggyj 26. August 2009, 11:22

That can happen in Fable 2 :headbang:

Furie 26. August 2009, 12:55

It can if the attending surgeon is a cat. awww

Zaphira 26. August 2009, 14:11

I can only say that I did my best.

rose-marie 26. August 2009, 18:27

Kimmie - yes! :D

Angeliki - That's a pretty good idea, actually

Thanks Herm :D! It was more relaxing than exciting, really. Just what I needed. How many weeks off do you get in the States?

Carol - thank you . The rain forced me to stay indoors most of the time, but it was ok anyway. Yes, baaad bed! p:

Congrats Darko - you got the state right :hat:.
You're right, it was the Adriatic, but I still call it the ocean p:. I have been to the other side many times. In Brist - halfway between Split and Dubrovnik. A little rocky as far as I can remember.
I have been thinking about going to Croatia again, though .

Thanks Squeak, but I haven't moved. It was only a vacation awww.

Cois - I'm sure you have done plenty! I see there are quite a few posts over at your blog, for example...

Thankies David :D!

Thanks Mik. I can't wait to see how that happened :eyes:!

Dacotah 26. August 2009, 18:31

You are welcome Rose-Marie.
:D

Furie 26. August 2009, 18:49

I'll give you three guesses. awww

rose-marie 26. August 2009, 19:28

I think I only need one!

Furie 26. August 2009, 19:36

 She kept being mean because you were away.

garlingmatthews 26. August 2009, 19:52

Italy rawks! The best ice cream

rose-marie 26. August 2009, 20:01

I'm not feeling for sorry for you. You turned me into a maid while I was away .

It sure is, Gavin. It sure is. *drools*

Furie 26. August 2009, 20:11

It was you or me, and I was too busy pursuing a promising stage career.

flamingo-rinse 27. August 2009, 08:32

Hey Rose - you're not drinking that appletini in the bath, are you???

rose-marie 27. August 2009, 09:34

Does that mean I don't get to have mime career then? awww

No Nick... Are you saying I'm wearing too little clothes? :left: p:

Furie 27. August 2009, 09:42

If you feel you've hit the age where you need to wear that much make-up then I wont stop you. :worried:

rose-marie 27. August 2009, 09:49

Hey, I'm still younger than Darko :D.

gdare 27. August 2009, 10:01

:irked:

clean 27. August 2009, 10:06

Me, too ... just ...

gdare 27. August 2009, 11:50

:psmurf:

flamingo-rinse 27. August 2009, 19:29

@Rose - no not at all - it's just that the lighting and suchlike made me wonder that's all - and to be honest I don't know where I would have taken it had you said yes

clean 28. August 2009, 09:29

My beard doesn't have that much white in it, Darko! Only three or four new strands ... a day ... :left: :right:

Furie 28. August 2009, 09:55

Mine too. awww

clean 28. August 2009, 10:13

Oh, you don't have a beard ... you have stubble ... it's what attracts the guys ...

Cois 28. August 2009, 10:26

BURN!

Furie 28. August 2009, 11:54

Guys, girls, teens who think anyone with a predominantly black avatar is "like wicked dark and stuff", David when he's had one too many... Let's face it, I've got a body that makes men wet.

Spaggyj 28. August 2009, 11:55

Surely it's your face that makes men wet?

Zaphira 28. August 2009, 13:53
