Going to visit spring

,

Some of you might remember one of the bridges I've featured here earlier.
For the first time this winter, I visited it again, and got a little bit depressed when I saw what it looked like now...
...so tonight I'm packing my bags, with the intention of heading further south tomorrow morning.
Seeing all the great spring posts around the community has made me longing for spring even more, so I decided to go meet it. I'm not going very far, but at least I've heard the temperatures are much nicer there .

Athough I will have internet access, I will be more off than on during the next week.
Take care, and try to behave .

The watchwoman

,

I have been wanting a new watch for a while now. A retro, digital one is what I have in mind.
Although I was promised one for my birthday, I (thankfully) have to pick it out myself and I haven't really been in the mood for doing so.

Being the daughter of a watchmaker (or watch repair man, really, which by the way also explains all the handheld games I had as a kid), I never lacked a device that would let me know what time it was. Therefore, instead of trawling the shops, I decided to find my old watches and see if there was something I could use...
:eyes:
Ok, to be honest, there are some newer ones in there too! :left:

Oh, and if you're in a place where it's time to set your clocks to daylight savings time tonight but can't remember if the clock goes an hour back or an hour forward - here's an easy way to remember:
Always set your clock towards summer!

Snowdrop

, ,

A couple of days ago, I noticed a sure-fire sign that spring finally had reached me too. You see, in front of my house, there were little groups of snowdrops basking in the sunshine we've had the last week .

Having the day off today, I thought I'd try to take some nice pictures of them.
Well... let's just say that didn't go exactly like I had hoped.

Ramblings

, ,

I too have been struck by strangled creativity lately. No matter how hard I've tried, no interesting subject has made it through the save button...
So I though ok... why not just write down some random thoughts and stuff from the past fortnight?
Thought and done:

* To keep putting off a visit to the dentist because it is so expensive does not save you money... On the contrary - by the time you get there, the dentist will have found a way to pay for his next vacation...

* I've noticed there are more than me here who aren't very into shopping. At least not for clothes (we're not counting shoes now, are we?). Don't you agree that when you need to find something, the stores seems to only have stuff you wouldn't wear in a million years? No matter how many stores you run through, there just isn't anything that catches your attention. However, when you're just casually browsing - not looking for anything particular - you find lots of cool stuff. I keep telling myself to buy the stuff there and then and not later because I know it will be sold out. If only I could listen more to myself...

* By the way - it turns out I still haven't grown those two inches I'd need in order to find trousers that fits .

* Apparently we'll be seeing a lot of peep-toe shoes this spring. Although I'm not crazy about toes, I like the look of some of the shoes I've seen. With coloured stockings, it could look cool :D.
There's also an alarmingly big amount of jump suits (or catsuits or whatever they are called) in the stores. Not looking forward to that!

* I finally became a user of Spotify. So far it's looking, and sounding good.

* For some reason my hair stylist (that's her fancy title - I really call her my hairdresser) loves my hair. Is that why she keeps cutting it shorter? Does she collect the trimmings? Voodoo? Wig? Weird? Just to be on the safe side, I asked her not to cut so much this time... Funny thing is - I love her hair. A classical case of you want what you don't have.

* I visited facebook just to find that nothing special has happened there except for an invitation to a new club opening in Oslo on March 28th. It looks like it will be fun, but at the same day I'm invited to iPod baby's baptism in Malmö. I don't think I'll be attending that, though. I've already decided to go to Malmö the weekend after, and I suspect it might be a little stressful going there on Friday night and back on Sunday morning (most likely by a seven and a half hour bus ride thanks to vacation wanting dentist). I feel like such a bad person :frown:. I wonder if it'll help going to a new club?

* Spring is coming! The sun is taking on the huge piles of snow, and is reducing them little by little. It does wonders for the mood !

* My physio told me I have a too short tendon in my left armpit which explains why I'm not very flexible when it comes to stretching my left arm. It also explains why it hurts like hell when she digs her fingers in there! Next time I won't shower first as punishment.

* Yesterday (March 14th) it was International Pi Day. Since, as some of you might know by now, the kitchen isn't the place I shine, I skipped making pie and ended up with chocolate balls - again.
Since they consist of around 99% fat (there's some oats in there to balance all the butter and suger!), they should only be devoured on special occasions. Since I don't know why I should celebrate Pi, I'm sharing them with you here instead... as a thank you for managing to read through this whole post!

Who's making your neighbourhood safer?

Is the answer Rob, Police Constable? :left:

I couldn't decide whether to write something about "letting off steam" or "exhausting", so I'll just leave that up to you .

Winter in the city

, ,

I know that there are several people out there who love snow and winter. I too can think snow is nice. On postcards. And in the countryside. In the city, however, it serves absolutely no purpose but to cause injury and force people to buy new boots every now and then... :left:
Here are a few observations I've made in the city (which may very well be referred to as a refigerator this winter). So far, we've had close to one meter of snow. A little less in the city centre, but still... It's the biggest amount of snow for 60 years.

Left: So you've managed to walk for a while without falling over and now you'd really like to rest for a while because walking on snow is a really good workout...
Right: Of course, all this snow makes commuting impossible, since both the tram and subway tracks are covered in snow. (Yes, we do have buses.) Since walking obviously is out of the question, you might want to get your car...

Left: Ok, so you opt for walking anyway. Luckily, the snow on the pavement here has been somewhat shovelled away. Unfortunately, it's been thrown to the sides, making the pavement pretty narrow. On the plus side, they have actually sprinkled some grit here.
Right: You have to cross the street you say? Well, since it's now a couple of degrees above zero, most of the snow on the street has melted away so you can actually see the crossing. Too bad you have to force your way through a wall of slush first... Once you've managed to do that, you are rewarded with stepping into a huge pool of more brown slush.

Left: With degrees above zero come the hazardous beauty called icicles. Situated way above your head, where you can't see them, they just wait for warmer weather so they can come off and harpoon anybody walking under them. These things can get pretty big, and weigh in at around 20-30 kilos. Needless to say, being hit by one would most likely be pretty lethal.
Now, you might think that this can be avoided by walking further away from the house. Have a look at the second picture to the left again.
Right: My hero! This particular man isn't removing icicles, but heavy snow from the roof (note the lump falling down).

Forecast for Oslo the next days: around zero degrees during the day, and some more snow expected later this week.
*sigh*

It's by:Larm time!

,

Once again, it's time for Scandinavia's largest music festival, by:Larm. Once again, it takes place in Oslo, and once again I've been lucky enough to receive a delegate pass (access all areas).

I went to register after work today, and received a PC-backpack (I really needed a backpack) filled with goodies:There were two books - one with the intriguing name "Norwegian album covers", which should be pretty fun to look at - and another one called "Oslo - A poor man's connoisseur guide to happy living in one of the most expensive cities in the world". I'm expecting lots of great tips from that book! :D
In addition to the books, there were a couple of CD's, loads of flyers (I hate flyers), earplugs, chewing gum and condoms. The last three are probably best used separately... :left:

I haven't gone through the program yet, but I'm hoping for three days with lots of fun and good music! And I shall do my very best to remember my camera this year. :D

:sst: I thought last year's close to 300 concerts were a lot, and now I've just heard that the number of concerts this year will be pretty close to 500! :eyes:

:headbang:

Got something to confess?

Waking up with Stephen Fry

,

I never thought I'd say this, but I think I've found a pleasant way of waking up in the mornings! :eyes:

Imagine laying in bed, finally fast asleep after having been brutally awakened by your upstairs neighbours a couple of times during the night. The piercing sound of the alarm clock as it goes off and those few seconds before you're able to throw out a limb from under the warmth of the covers into the freezing cold and press "snooze" are sure fire ways of letting you know it's going to be a horrible day.

Now, imagine laying in bed - same scenario as before, only this time a soothing voice wakes you up with the words

It appears to be morning. Very inconvenient, I agree. I believe it is the rotation of the Earth that is to blame, Sir.

or

I am delighted that you have survived another night. May I add my own small congratulations to the roar of the world's approval?

or

Let us seize the day and take it roughly from behind, as the Colonel used to say in his unfortunate way.

or

I feel sure you have slept soundly, feel thoroughly refreshed, and await the day with the anticipation of an energetic gazelle. Good heavens, Sir. I saw a pig flying past the window.

or any of the other wake-up calls, and one call for sleep, available from the Stephen Fry alarm clock and you know that even if the day will be horrible, at least the start of it was nice. :D

Not to mention the coolness of letting all your colleagues know that "Stephen Fry woke me up this morning ".

The wonderful world of make-up

, ,

Ok, so I don't know much about make-up, but even I find this funny...

I mean - surely you would find something/one other than Dame Edna advertising your products when you're a posh make-up chain in Oslo?

:sst: In case you haven't heard of her - feast your eyes on this :D.
