Hotel boxes

,

Do you remember how I talked about the gender marked boxes in the hotel I stayed at in Barcelona?
Yeah... I forgot too :left:.

Anyway - here are the contents:
Woman box

* Comb
* Toothbrush
* Paper hankies
* Toothpaste
* Mint foot massage
* Lip balm
* Hairnet

Man box

* Razor
* Toothbrush
* Paper hankies
* Shaving cream
* Toohtpaste
* Moisturizing cream
* After shave balm

Soap, shampoo and body lotion were in separate bottles. The boxes were re-stocked every day - no matter if there was plenty of goo left in the packages or not :D.

I can't remember the last time I wore a hairnet (have I ever, even?), and personally, I would rather have a scrub or something than the mint foot massage...
What would you like to see in your box?

Play/Pause

,

My cousin (who is a hardcore Mac-er) got a baby son a few days ago.
I simply couldn't resist getting him this:

Isn't it cute? I just hope the pause button works p:.

Oslo riots

,

On Thursday, there was a demonstration against the war in Gaza here in Oslo. It was supposed to be demo against the war, thus not taking sides in the conflict.
Unfortunately things got out of hand, mostly due to (very) young pro-Palestina supporters who set fire to trash bins, crushed shop windows and caused lots of damage, causing riots the Oslo police have not seen since the 80's.

A new demonstration was planned today and I had planned on going downtown to watch it. As chance (or now I'd like to think it was more luck) would have it, I had to go elsewhere instead.
On my way home, I popped into the shop for some supplies and as I got out, it started rasping in my nose and throat. Very uncomfortable.
I hurried home while coughing and drying tears that had started to come, and switched on the news.
Yup - things have got way out of hand again... This time, media reports that demonstrators are shooting fireworks and throwing stones against the barricades the police has set up, causing the police to react with teargas. That's what I felt on my way home.

Apparently, this time professional demonstrators from abroad have joined the crowd, totally destroying any chance of a peaceful demonstration and, of course, making lots of people sympathize with "the other side" instead... :rolleyes:
Why can't they understand that crushing windows and throwing rocks at the police while shooting fireworks INTO the crowd of demonstrators does not do anything for the sake? Fucking idiots! :furious:

So... as I am trying to remove that horrible rasp in my throat with a martini, I can't help wondering - if I felt it so much where I live, how horrible must it not be for the ones trying to demonstrate peacefully...

(The story is still developing... :frown:)

To 2009

To be honest, I'm not that big a fan of New Year's Eve. Mostly because you simply have to have a great time then. Expectations are through the roof, leaving many people with an anticlimax around midnight.
The last years, me and some friends have had an unpretentious celebration with dinner and drinks. Ok, so it still is a party, but without high expectations and pretentiousness :D.
Everybody is bringing something to the party, and it has fallen upon me to bring my famous chocolate balls. (One thing I actually can master in the kitchen. p:)

So, while rolling the balls and fixing the dress before I leave (in my new party shoes :happy: )...

...I would like to say that I've had another great year here with all of you. I've witnessed so many funny moments and hilarity, as well as some not so funny moments, and I'm glad we experienced that together. This year wouldn't have been the same without you. So...
Happy New Year!
I hope we'll have many more! :heart:
Here's to 2009!

Merry Christmas!

Rhymes: done
Presents: almost wrapped.
I'm just putting the finishing touch to the presents before I get properly dressed and leave for this year's Christmas celebration.
It's no surprise that I'm in the midst of last minute wrapping/dressing, but I couldn't possibly leave without wishing all my friends and readers a

Very Merry Christmas!

:sst: ...even though most of you don't celebrate it until tomorrow - or not at all.

A Barcelona parcel

,

Since the times ahead will be a bit hectic (and the fact that I might be a little bit lazy), I decided to write a short summary of my last week instead of several posts. That doesn't necessarily mean there won't be any more posts on the subjects, I think I have a picture or two to show :wink:.

  • I was childishly amused at what I found in the bathroom on the hotel*.
  • I witnessed the kinky sex of a certain hamster :eyes:. It was in a cage. In public :yikes:!
  • I bought an umbrella from a man on the street.
  • I got my wallet stolen at a café :mad:.
  • The previous lead me to closer contact with the police than I have ever had before :o:.
  • I had the strongest martini ever
  • I didn't visit a single museum :left:.
  • But I saw lots of tourist-y things, including lovely modernista buildings.
  • I also lost my heart in the city, so I definitely will have to go back again :happy:

* On the bathroom wall, there was a niche with two boxes labelled "Man" and "Woman". They contained everything you'd need for a stay. I'm thinking about doing a post about that later. Oh, and there were slippers too! And bathrobes! Fancy :D.

T'is the season to be travelling

,

See the picture in my banner? I took that on a Christmas fair here in Oslo one afternoon. Even though there wasn't any snow, it was freezing cold and by the time I got home I could hardly feel my toes anymore awww.
Although I can find motifs like that pretty, I don't enjoy the coldness as much.

Now, set your clock back three months or so. Due to an immense workload, I am not allowed to use any holidays during autumn and I have only used three weeks during the year, leaving me with two. As the new year draws closer, I am now "forced" to have three whole weeks off work... :whistle:

In conclusion:
Freezing cold + many days off work = me boarding a plane bound for Barcelona tomorrow morning :happy:.

I won't be gone for long, in fact I'll back on Friday already, but I just thought I'd let you know.

:heart:

Hot chocolate

,

I'm having the day off today and can't really say I've done anything productive... :D

Anyway, it's freezing outside, and I mean that literally. It's below zero degrees so apart from a quick trip to the shop, I've been cuddling up indoors.

Those of you who think that can't be done in an stylish manner - think again.

Thanks to this fantastic martini mug, I am now enjoying a drink of hot cocoa feeling elegant even though my hair is a mess and my clothes should really have been in the laundry basket :happy:.

And best of all - it's so easy to make :yes:

Recipe:
One cup of milk
One dash of chocolate powder

Modus operandi:
Mix and heat milk and chocolate while stirring

Oh, and notice how the marshmellow looks like an olive? :love:

Buy Nothing Day

Today it's International Buy Nothing Day in Europe (it was yesterday in North America).
The day is a protest against consumerism, and is trying to make people more aware of their shopping habits.

I am definitely not much of a shopper in the first place, but today day I'm even taking it one step further by returning a top I bought earlier this week (only to later find out I really didn't want it) :D.

:sst: Surely, a moccha :coffee: from the local coffee shop isn't included in "nothing"...? :whistle:

Holmenkollen falling

,

Yesterday I saw one of the first signs that winter season is upon us here in the north.
Yes, I have seen snow earlier this year, but yesterday I saw a man dressed in his ski suit.
A bit odd perhaps, considering there isn't any snow in the city but then - prepared tracks are only a subway ride away.
Norwegians claim to be born with skis on their feet, so people with skis are a quite common sight during the winter months. Needless to say, people around here are quite fond of winter and winter sports. And they are proud of their accomplishments in the latter.

The sight of ski-man got me thinking about a debate that went on here a while ago.
Due to not meeting the standards for arranging the 2011 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, it was decided that Holmenkollen ski jump in Oslo should be demolished and replaced with a new up-to-date construction.
Because of its history and tradition - the tower has been around since 1939 - many people thought it was horrendous to demolish it while others happily embraced a new and improved ski jump.
Well, history and tradition had to bend this time, and demolishment started last month.

One of the reasons those opposed to a new ski jump used, were that Holmenkollen ski jump is one of Oslo's (maybe even Norway's) main attractions.
Now, I have to admit that coming from a neighbouring country, albeit from further south where we don't walk around with skis (or even ski suits!) in the winter time, I can't remember having heard about Holmenkollen before I moved here.
Therefore, I'm curious to hear from you guys. Have you heard of Holmenkollen?
And what do you think of when I say Oslo or Norway?
