Papercuts waiting to happen...

I have some archiving to do at work...

Ramblings!

,

 WOOO!
* I finally got me a new phone. After having had my SE Z610i for well over two years, it was time to let it have its well deserved retirement. So - I got a HTC Hero and man! is it a world of difference! (Yes yes, feel free to laugh at me! I never knew how smart smartphones really were... :o:) I love it, and I've only just begun discovering it!

* I have a ton of work these days. The WOOO part is that some of it is very fun and challenging. I like that... makes it feel less stressful. The fun part involves things I've never done before which makes the challenging part. On Monday I'm going to present a bit of my labour - keep your fingers crossed!

* Coffee moccha is one of the greatest inventions of all time. I love living 50 metres from the closest coffee bar (and around 70 metres to the second closest)!

* I have Swedish dill and chive crisps! :yum:

 BOOO!
* I got the mother of all paper cuts yesterday. It stretches over almost half my left middle finger and IT HURTS! It was actually cut by some of the documents I've prepared for the Monday presentation so now I have both sweated and bled over it. Let's hope there won't be tears! *knocks on wood*

* The weather we're having is really depressing. I'm so eletrical I keep getting shocks when I touch metal. Also, my lips feel like sandpaper again a couple of minutes after I've moistured them.

* A downside to the presentation on Monday is that I have to catch a flight early in the morning which means I have to get up über early. It has kind of ruined the weekend for me, as I keep thinking on how early I have to get up.

The last few days in other smilies...
:hat: It was Mik's birthday on Thursday. I missed it here, but I've had "Happy Birthday Stubbles" as my status for three days so I hope that makes up for it . I hope you had a grand day!
:yikes: While walking off the tracks in the woods on Saturday, it very quickly went dark. Lighting the way with a small flashlight, there suddenly was a loud growl 5-6 metres to the right. I stopped and my first thought was wolf. Another growl, and the flashlight was turned towards the sound. Two eyes were flashing back and I thought that it probably was time to pick up the pace and head towards the trail (which wasn't far away now). But then - a small little brown head materialized between to tree trunks. A little brown dog head. Although it didn't growl more, it didn't seem to want to be disturbed so we left it there. I wonder if it was a wild dog or if it was just lost so close to the trail...
:D A week ago it was the big cinema day in Norway. I don't go to the cinema very often, but tickets to half price and free candy managed to drag me out.
awww This last week has been all about Berlin in the media. For those of you who have missed it, on Monday it was 20 years ago they teared down the wall. Seeing all the reports, happy people and documentaries had me longing back there. Ich bin ein Berliner!

Last but not least - a big  to you! I hope you have a great weekend!

Misfit

,

I never thought I'd write a post about feet :eyes: but here's a strange thing I notice every year when the temperature rises to sandal-wearing level.
People (mostly women), mostly over a certain age, squeezing their feet into footwear that's clearly too small.
Here's an example - a woman standing in front of me at the cash register in the supermarket:What is this? I can't think of anything that could explain why anybody would want to walk around like this. It can't be comfortable, and it surely doesn't look good.
Unless... it's a case of reversed footorexia (thinking that your feet are smaller then they actually are). If so, is it curable? :worried:

Feeling Hot! Hot! Hot!

,

Oslo is boiling these days, and I would be lying if I said I didn't love it...

General holidays are right around the corner, and the city is starting to empty more and more.
With degrees around 30 Celsius (that would be around F86), and a sun that doesn't set until it's almost time for it to rise again, there's really no other option than to be outdoors as much as possible.
After all - this is what I have been whining about wanting to have since this last horrible winter.

Also - who knows when the summer will end this time. Will we have summer for two weeks this year? A whole month? Is this it, or can we finally look forward to a long summer here too?
In order to really be sure of getting that sweet summer taste, I will not be around as much as usual these days. I am aware of the number of feeds already building up, but hey - bad weather will be coming sooner than I hope and then I'll be running around this place bugging you all so much you'll wish I had summer again!

*gets picnik basket and SPF ready*

I'll catch up with you soon!

Snowdrop

, ,

A couple of days ago, I noticed a sure-fire sign that spring finally had reached me too. You see, in front of my house, there were little groups of snowdrops basking in the sunshine we've had the last week .

Having the day off today, I thought I'd try to take some nice pictures of them.
Well... let's just say that didn't go exactly like I had hoped.

I too have been struck by strangled creativity lately. No matter how hard I've tried, no interesting subject has made it through the save button...
So I though ok... why not just write down some random thoughts and stuff from the past fortnight?
Thought and done:

* To keep putting off a visit to the dentist because it is so expensive does not save you money... On the contrary - by the time you get there, the dentist will have found a way to pay for his next vacation...

* I've noticed there are more than me here who aren't very into shopping. At least not for clothes (we're not counting shoes now, are we?). Don't you agree that when you need to find something, the stores seems to only have stuff you wouldn't wear in a million years? No matter how many stores you run through, there just isn't anything that catches your attention. However, when you're just casually browsing - not looking for anything particular - you find lots of cool stuff. I keep telling myself to buy the stuff there and then and not later because I know it will be sold out. If only I could listen more to myself...

* By the way - it turns out I still haven't grown those two inches I'd need in order to find trousers that fits .

* Apparently we'll be seeing a lot of peep-toe shoes this spring. Although I'm not crazy about toes, I like the look of some of the shoes I've seen. With coloured stockings, it could look cool :D.
There's also an alarmingly big amount of jump suits (or catsuits or whatever they are called) in the stores. Not looking forward to that!

* I finally became a user of Spotify. So far it's looking, and sounding good.

* For some reason my hair stylist (that's her fancy title - I really call her my hairdresser) loves my hair. Is that why she keeps cutting it shorter? Does she collect the trimmings? Voodoo? Wig? Weird? Just to be on the safe side, I asked her not to cut so much this time... Funny thing is - I love her hair. A classical case of you want what you don't have.

* I visited facebook just to find that nothing special has happened there except for an invitation to a new club opening in Oslo on March 28th. It looks like it will be fun, but at the same day I'm invited to iPod baby's baptism in Malmö. I don't think I'll be attending that, though. I've already decided to go to Malmö the weekend after, and I suspect it might be a little stressful going there on Friday night and back on Sunday morning (most likely by a seven and a half hour bus ride thanks to vacation wanting dentist). I feel like such a bad person :frown:. I wonder if it'll help going to a new club?

* Spring is coming! The sun is taking on the huge piles of snow, and is reducing them little by little. It does wonders for the mood !

* My physio told me I have a too short tendon in my left armpit which explains why I'm not very flexible when it comes to stretching my left arm. It also explains why it hurts like hell when she digs her fingers in there! Next time I won't shower first as punishment.

* Yesterday (March 14th) it was International Pi Day. Since, as some of you might know by now, the kitchen isn't the place I shine, I skipped making pie and ended up with chocolate balls - again.
Since they consist of around 99% fat (there's some oats in there to balance all the butter and suger!), they should only be devoured on special occasions. Since I don't know why I should celebrate Pi, I'm sharing them with you here instead... as a thank you for managing to read through this whole post!

Winter in the city

, ,

I know that there are several people out there who love snow and winter. I too can think snow is nice. On postcards. And in the countryside. In the city, however, it serves absolutely no purpose but to cause injury and force people to buy new boots every now and then... :left:
Here are a few observations I've made in the city (which may very well be referred to as a refigerator this winter). So far, we've had close to one meter of snow. A little less in the city centre, but still... It's the biggest amount of snow for 60 years.

Left: So you've managed to walk for a while without falling over and now you'd really like to rest for a while because walking on snow is a really good workout...
Right: Of course, all this snow makes commuting impossible, since both the tram and subway tracks are covered in snow. (Yes, we do have buses.) Since walking obviously is out of the question, you might want to get your car...

Left: Ok, so you opt for walking anyway. Luckily, the snow on the pavement here has been somewhat shovelled away. Unfortunately, it's been thrown to the sides, making the pavement pretty narrow. On the plus side, they have actually sprinkled some grit here.
Right: You have to cross the street you say? Well, since it's now a couple of degrees above zero, most of the snow on the street has melted away so you can actually see the crossing. Too bad you have to force your way through a wall of slush first... Once you've managed to do that, you are rewarded with stepping into a huge pool of more brown slush.

Left: With degrees above zero come the hazardous beauty called icicles. Situated way above your head, where you can't see them, they just wait for warmer weather so they can come off and harpoon anybody walking under them. These things can get pretty big, and weigh in at around 20-30 kilos. Needless to say, being hit by one would most likely be pretty lethal.
Now, you might think that this can be avoided by walking further away from the house. Have a look at the second picture to the left again.
Right: My hero! This particular man isn't removing icicles, but heavy snow from the roof (note the lump falling down).

Forecast for Oslo the next days: around zero degrees during the day, and some more snow expected later this week.
*sigh*

First snow

I'm not ready for this !

Wanna spend the day with me?

,

That's right... I'm inviting you to take a peek on my day through a couple of photos.

Today must have been the hottest day so far this summer .
After having done some shopping in the a.m (it stretches to lunch, right :left:?), there was really only one option...

Here's what I looked at for the rest of the day:

Except for when I occasionally switched position. Then I got to look at this:

I just checked the thermometer on the balcony, and it's still 29° out there so that's most likely where you'll find me, munching on Taleggio cheese and drinking litres of water .

Thanks for the company :D.

One Wiik getting fit

, ,

It's been a week and a half since the Wii Fit hit my part of the world. I've been intersted in it ever since Mart first mentioned it sometime in December.
Now, being the lazy ass I am, I ordered it online. After all, going to the shop and buy it would take some calories .
Boy, was I mistaken. Going to the post office and carry the darn thing home was equally hard :irked:!

Anyway...
I collected the package last Saturday and have been using the Fit every day (well, except one) since then. What looks like an advanced scale is more than just that. It's a balance board that registers exactly where you put your weight and calculates your COG - center of gravity.
It wants you to perform a body test (weighing + two balance tests) every day so it can calculate your daily BMI and Wii Fit age. Now, I don't believe in BMI, and the Wii Fit age obviously is crap - I went from 44 to 26 in one day p: - but I have to admit it still is quite motivating seeing the numbers go down each day.
Oh, if you don't check in one day, it'll ask you if you've been very busy, or if you've been away... I wouldn't mind an option where you can register legal absence - like a vacation.
After creating your profile, which is basically entering your height and goal (how much do you want to lose/gain and in what period of time), you're all set to start your training .

Now, there are four training groups in the Fit:
Yoga - contains well known yoga poses such as the Half Moon, Warrior and Downward-Facing Dog.
Aerobic - contains 3 step exercises, three joggings, boxing and hula hoops.
Muscle - contains a variety of strength building exercises, such as push-ups, jackknife and lunge.
Balance - contains slalom, snowboard, table-tilt and some other small games where you need to have your balance in order.
Every minute you exercise, you earn a minute in a piggy bank. After a certain amount of time, you unlock more and more exercises, more reps per exercise or go from beginner to advanced (whatever happened to intermediate?) - all depending on the exercise. You can't control that yourself.
All exercises have a top-ten list with your previous scores, which might help inspire you to do better next time.
I have unlocked all the balance games, and am already thinking "what next"? I'm guessing there will come some software with more exercises. At least I hope so.

Generally, I'd say that this can not compensate for "real" workout, but if the option is sitting on the sofa all night, then this is a good start. And what is it they say? Your living room floor is much closer than the gym .

I have to admit I like it. As chance would have it, I couldn't go to the gym at all this past week, but the chirpy Wii Fit Mascot tells me that I've still lost a little more than 1 kilo . It also tells me that the body weight can change a kilo up or down in a single day, but what the hey! I'm 26 too !
