At 'Mado-no Mori', one of the largest applications download site in Japan, interviewed to CEO of Opera Software, Mr. Jon S. von Tetzchner, while his staying in Japan.
http://www.forest.impress.co.jp/article/2006/07/06/opera_interview.htmlOh, Jon came to Japan, we, usual Opera users didn't know that. He went to Akihabara, bought a new Digital camera with WiFi, see his photo at linked page. He uses ThinkPad, as some of you know.
In the contents, the most of them are not new to my.opera community fellows. No mentions to Nintendo browser, because Mado-no-Mori is Windows applications web site.
Some points I have to mention are;
Mado-no-Mori; There was a TP of Opera8 with BitTorrent, but the Final of Opera8 didn't have BitTorrent. Why do you implement BitTorrent to new Opera9?
Jon; Technology Preview is a test case, to implement some new features, offer to the users, to get feedback. So some features are not included for the Final Product. By that time (at Opera8's TP periods), BitTorrent had some bad image, to exchange illegal materials, so we didn't ship it with final product. But now it is widely used, including Hollywood, to deliver legal software and contents, so we decided to include it with Opera9.
Mado; What's big in next Opera?
Jon; It's too early to talk about Opera 10. But web browser is not only browsing tool for the web contents, it will become a platform, on which complicated applications work. Such a environment will become popular on PC, cellphone, devices. We, OperaASA, are working hard to offer environments, where one application work on many devices.
Mado; Last April, you tried and failed to swim to your home country. After that, did you come back there?
Jon; Yes, by airplane.
