Gods own Country, Devils own People

The caption is not mine... I flicked it from somewhere else...

Accidently came across a blog post which reported the kind news appearing frequently in Malayalam newspapers.

A fellow commenter has suggested to put the "sick person" behind the bars immediately. But when this kind of incidents are increasing in a society, putting the sick alone in cell wont make us immune. Carnal abuse has always been in the front page of news papers; ministers and political leaders have been involved many of those cases. Still it continues to happen one day after another day, while a few of them are brought into public attention, I guess many of them would have been suppressed and unnoticed. Scourging the felon alone is not going to reduce this abhominal pursuite for pleasure. The treatment should be given to the society as a whole.

Tale-End:
A ridiculous explanation given to the increasing number of sexual molestation cases in Kerala was the relatively educated mass and their awareness of law and its practices; not becuase they are transpired more - I know you woldn't be in a mood to laugh.

La Belle Dame Sans Merci

,

Ever since I heard the Summer Wine, I was searching for this peom by John Keats, which we studied in predegree 1st year.

O, what can ail thee, knight-at-arms,
Alone and palely loitering?
The sedge is wither'd from the lake,
And no birds sing.

O, what can ail thee, knight-at-arms,
So haggard and so woe-begone?
The squirrel's granary is full,
And the harvest's done.

I see a lily on thy brow,
With anguish moist and fever dew;
And on thy cheek a fading rose
Fast withereth too.

I met a lady in the meads
Full beautiful --- a faery's child;
Her hair was long, her foot was light,
And her eyes were wild.

I made a garland for her head,
And bracelets too, and fragrant zone;
She look'd at me as she did love,
And made sweet moan.

I set her on my pacing steed,
And nothing else saw all day long;
For sideways would she lean, and sing
A faery's song.

She found me roots of relish sweet,
And honey wild, and manna dew;
And sure in language strange she said,
'I love thee true.'

She took me to her elfin grot,
And there she wept and sighed full sore,
And there I shut her wild sad eyes
With kisses four.

And there she lulled me asleep,
And there I dream'd --- ah! woe betide! ---
The latest dream I ever dreamt
On the cold hill side.

I saw pale kings, and princes too,
Pale warriors, death-pale were they all;
They cried --- 'La Belle Dame sans Merci
Hath thee in thrall!'

I saw their starved lips in the gloam
With horrid warning gaped wide,
And I awoke, and found me here
On the cold hill side.

And this is why I sojourn here,
Alone and palely loitering;
Though the sedge is wither'd from the lake,
And no birds sing.

Shivapura

, ,

I had been to a two-day-trekking-trip to Sathodi-Ulavi-Dandeli on the first weekend of May. It was my third trip with Chandru. The most memorable part of the trip was the night stay in Shivapura. Shivapura a village inside the forrest near Ulavi. We had to trek down about 4 km to reach the village. As the road was blocked on our way to Sathodi falls we had to walk more than 9km to reach sathodi falls and hence we got late to reach Ulavi. So the trek was during night.

Our plan was to stay in an ashram in Shivapura. But there was another group reached before us and Chandru managed to get a villager as our guest for that night.

There was no electricity in the village but the house has DishTV and DVD Player all run on solar power. They had redirected a small stream to their house through a half cut bamboo tree for 24 hour nonstop water supply.

The next day we started very early.  Most of the houses had electric fences to protect their farmland against wild animals. I fell on fence while crossing it and experienced the mild shock as well ;-). On the way there was a house with a mini hydro power station. Was "Swades" really happened here?.

Later we saw workers digging to install electric posts of power supply corporation. So the village will have government supplied power soon.

The trek was not very tough one. But the summer made is terrible. Many of us including "me" was really struggling. And we had a few newcomers in the group. The plan was to vising Mahamuni caves and on the way back to Ulavi take a longer route and visit another cave. But by popular demand Chandru had to abandon the second one. Though it was in the peak of summer, I hadn't expected it to be so much hot as it was a forest trek. By noon itself, we all tired and I was almost completely wet with sweat.
