Question: "What are Gog and Magog?"
Answer: Prophetically, Gog will be the leader of a great army that attacks the land of Israel in the end times. Gog is described as "the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal," from the north "the land of Magog" (Ezekiel 38:2-3). The prophet Ezekiel prophetically describes Gog attacking Israel with a powerful force (Ezekiel chapters 38-39). According to this prophesy of Ezekiel, Gog will be defeated by God Himself on the mountains of Israel. The slaughter will be so great it will take seven months to bury all of the dead (Ezekiel 39:12). The Book of Revelation also mentions Gog and Magog (Revelation 20:7-8). The prophesy in Revelation is essentially a restatement of Ezekiel's prophesy.
Magog was a grandson of Noah (Genesis 10:2). The descendants of Magog settled to the far north of Israel, likely in Europe and northern Asia (Ezekiel 38:2). Magog seems to be used to refer to "northern barbarians" in general, but likely also has a connection to Magog the person. The people of Magog are described as skilled warriors (Ezekiel 38:15; 39:3-9). The Book of Revelation uses Ezekiel's prophesy about Magog to portray a final end times attack on the nation of Israel (Revelation 20:8-9). Many Bible prophesy teachers identify Gog and Magog as Russia and/or China. This is possible, but not explicitly clear in the Bible.
The tradition of Gog and Magog begins in the Bible with the reference to Magog, son of Japheth, in the Book of Genesis and continues in cryptic prophecies in the Book of Ezekiel, which are echoed in the Book of Revelation. The ambiguity of this tradition cannot be overstated. Even the nature of these entities differs greatly between sources. They are variously presented as men, supernatural beings (giants or demons), national groups, or lands. Gog and Magog appear in the Qur'an and occur widely in mythology and folklore.
Gog... Magog:
Gog, of a land called Magog, is a figure used in Ezekiel 38-39 who leads a great horde of armies to attack and destroy Israel...
And it is a type of Apocalypse 20 where Satan deceives the nations in the four corners of the earth--Gog and Magog--to gather them for battle, to attack the Church of Christ to destroy it after the thousand years are over.
In both cases, Gog and Magog are completely defeated by the Sovereign LORD, among other things, with a great earthquake and fire coming down from heaven.
And, like in many other prophecies, Gog and Magog will attack each one of us, at the end of our lives, with grave social and health problems and with catastrophes of nature... Reagan and Einstein and Christopher Columbus had their personal Gog and Magog... and our only one savior will the Sovereign Lord.
Gog and Magog in the Bible:
These are the two places in the Bible where the words God and Magog are shown: Ezekiel 38-39 and Revelation 20... plus Gog in Gen.10:
Ezekiel 38:
1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2 "Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal; prophesy against him 3 and say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. 4 I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army-your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. 5 Persia, Cush and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets, 6 also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops-the many nations with you. (Ez.38:1-6)
14 "Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: In that day, when my people Israel are living in safety, will you not take notice of it? 15 You will come from your place in the far north, you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great horde, a mighty army. 16 You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud that covers the land. In days to come, O Gog, I will bring you against my land, so that the nations may know me when I show myself holy through you before their eyes.
17 " 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Are you not the one I spoke of in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel? At that time they prophesied for years that I would bring you against them. 18 This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign LORD . 19 In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. 20 The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground. 21 I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign LORD . Every man's sword will be against his brother. 22 I will execute judgment upon him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him. 23 And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD .' (Ez.38:14-23).
Ezekiel 39:
1 "Son of man, prophesy against Gog and say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. 2 I will turn you around and drag you along. I will bring you from the far north and send you against the mountains of Israel. 3 Then I will strike your bow from your left hand and make your arrows drop from your right hand. 4 On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to all kinds of carrion birds and to the wild animals. 5 You will fall in the open field, for I have spoken, declares the Sovereign LORD . 6 I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in safety in the coastlands, and they will know that I am the LORD. (Ez.39:1-6).
9 " 'Then those who live in the towns of Israel will go out and use the weapons for fuel and burn them up-the small and large shields, the bows and arrows, the war clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them for fuel. 10 They will not need to gather wood from the fields or cut it from the forests, because they will use the weapons for fuel. And they will plunder those who plundered them and loot those who looted them, declares the Sovereign LORD . 11 " 'On that day I will give Gog a burial place in Israel, in the valley of those who travel east toward the Sea. It will block the way of travelers, because Gog and all his hordes will be buried there. So it will be called the Valley of Hamon Gog. 12 " 'For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land. 13 All the people of the land will bury them, and the day I am glorified will be a memorable day for them, declares the Sovereign LORD . 14 " 'Men will be regularly employed to cleanse the land... (Ez.39:9-14).
Revelation 20:
7 "When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison 8and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth--Gog and Magog--to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. 9They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. 10And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (Rev.20:6-10).
Genesis 10:
1 "This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah's sons, who themselves had sons after the flood. The Japhethites 2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech and Tiras. (Gen.10:1-2).
Gog and Magog in the Koran:
Gog Magog (Yagog Magog) is a term known by almost all Muslims but the information regarding who they are ranges from intellectual to totally superficial. The reference to Gog Magog only appears twice in the Quran. Once during the narration of the king Zulqarnain
Then followed he (another) way,
Until, when he reached (a tract) between two mountains, he found, beneath them, a people who scarcely understood a word.
They said: "O Zulqarnain! the Gog and Magog (People) do great mischief on earth: shall we then render thee tribute in order that thou mightest erect a barrier between us and them?
He said: "(The power) in which my Lord has established me is better (than tribute): Help me therefore with strength (and labor): I will erect a strong barrier between you and them:
"Bring me blocks of iron." At length, when he had filled up the space between the two steep mountain-sides, He said, "Blow (with your bellows)" Then, when he had made it (red) as fire, he said: "Bring me, that I may pour over it, molten lead."
Thus were they made powerless to scale it or to dig through it.
He said: "This is a mercy from my Lord: But when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will make it into dust; and the promise of my Lord is true."
On that day We shall leave them to surge like waves on one another: the trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them all together.

Who are Gog and Magog?:
They are multitude of forces, led by Satan, to fight against Israel in its most critical moment of life, and against Christianity in its most critical period... and against each one of us, personally, in our most difficult period of our live.
There have been already several types of Gog and Magog in the world:
In the last century, Communism from Russia and Hitler from Germany, since Gog is coming from the North, which is Europe, with Russia the farthest North.
But long before, Muslim Empires have been considered Gog... or the Roman Empire... when the Scythians threatened, it was the Scythians; when the Huns threatened, it was the Huns; and when the Alans threatened, someone would call the Alans 'Gog and Magog'; so too with the Khazars, the Turks, the Magyars, the Parthians, the Mongols... Alexander...
In the book of Esther, Haman has been considered one of the best type of Gog in the Bible.
Gog and Magog... Armageddon... the Antichrist:
Gog and Magog and Armageddon are the same last battle of the Church and of your life... the last and most ferocious battle of the Antichrist against the church and against you!.
In the Sixth Vision of Revelation, this great battle is called by the place, Armageddon (Rev.16:16)... In the Seventh Vision of Revelation, it is named by the leader and armies of the attackers used by Satan, Gog and Magog (Rev.20:6-10). Book of Revelation Armageddon
Armageddon is the last battle of the Antichrist... and so it is Gog and Magog.
The results of both Battles are similar:

But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. (Rev.19:20... 14:10-11).
2- Results of Gog and Magog:
And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (Rev.20:10).
The Battles:
In both battles there were the great armies of many nations deceived by Satan.
In both instances there was a great earthquake and fire coming from heaven.
Both of them occur after the one thousand years. The Second Coming of Christ Armageddon
And in both cases it was the Lord of lords, the Sovereign Lord, the one who won the battle... a complete and eternal victory of Jesus Christ in his church and for his church, and a complete and eternal defeat of Satan and his followers, which is the bottom-line of the Book of Revelation.
