Don't worry, Live Calendar works perfectly in Opera! (minus slightly little fitting-in-screen problems).
I went trough similar problems when they changed the appeareance 2 years ago (more or less). When they had a "complete version" and a "basic version". I used basic version fine with Opera 9.27 and then with Opera 9.5.
The problem is that big message Microsoft puts : "Windows Live is designed for you, but maybe not for your browser".
I hate they always exclude Opera from what they call "standards", when Opera really is the only that follow the standards according to the W3C!
I send them a lot of feedback and in the feedback is
Why Open the Web?
Despite the connecting purpose of the Web, it is not entirely open to all of its users. When used correctly, HTML documents can be displayed across platforms and devices. However, many devices are excluded access to Web content.
Oh! I didn't know that about Safari. I'll investigate.
Yeah, I've also sent them a lot of feedback. Let's just think they're tired of reading that and they just ignore it.
You are right. If everyone use html documents as they are designed to be used, web pages should display correctly even in many devices.
I can't read my mails in my Nintendo DSi! Even I can't enter mobile.msn.com as I did in Nintendo DS Browser (for Nintendo DS Lite). When I enter mobile.msn.com, it shows me the page as if I were on a desktop browser.
For this reason I treat people that insist on using outdated versions of MSIE (anything older than 8) equally retarded, and suggest they either update or download a competitive browser.
And I make sure my stuff works in all standards compliant browsers. That automatically excludes MSIE, without any extra effort on my part.
I'm not making any profit off of my web site, so it sucks to be them.
Chas4 says: "The thing about IE 8 (same with IE 7) is that it is XP or higher win 2000 is stuck with ie 6".
If that is correct, I suggest upgrading your OS. Windows 2000 is sooo 10 years ago...
I know this can't be done for lots of people, and I dislike that lock-in as much as I dislike Apple locking in Safari users (Apple Safari versions were tied to OS versions as well).
Samfresco says: "I told him to follow the standards and he won't have any problem with firefox, Opera or even Safari."
And with a bit of luck, MSIE 7 and 8 will display it decently as well... Once it works across the standards-compliant browsers (which is relatively easy with Firefox improving), adding support for whatever Microsoft thinks is a web browser proves less daunting.

I also always suggest Opera. Then, if they don't like it, I tell them to try anything but IE.
A friend ss making a webpage. And he is tired trying to fit it in firefox and MSIE at the same time.
I told him to follow the standards and he won't have any problem with firefox, Opera or even Safari.
