orienteering and life

aptos and more

Since in our arrival in Aptos we have been able to do some really good training. I have been able to do 17 trainings in the last 8 days, trained a total of close to 15 hours. We have trained in all sorts of places too, in the woods, on the beach, in San Francisco and on the track...

Over the weekend we did 3 orienteering trainings together with the Bay Area Orienteering club. Marc set the courses and both him and I set some of the controls. It was pretty hectic to plan the O trainings and also take part in them. The terrain is really steep here, which makes setting courses a challenge. We certainly didn't do a lot of distance, but it was good practice in route choices and physically demanding. Marc set a downhill control picking that was a very good technical training, of course the bigger challenge was getting to the top of the hill for the control picking. In this training I did 825 meters of climb in 8km... Yikes!

Today we went to a state park called Point Lobos near Carmel about 45 minutes drive south from Aptos. This was amazing!! It is a little peninsula with perfect little sand beaches but especially wild cliffs dropping into the sea, breaking the big waves in a dramatic chaos of water. Check out the album section, there are pictures of today's run, but also some pictures from the whole camp so far!

Only two days before Marc and I head to LA for some site seeing. We both have been fighting a cold, so it will be good to take a few days off. After our 3 day stay in LA we will be heading to Anza Borrego for two days of orienteering races.
