orienteering and life

Starting again

There are a lot of things that I am trying to start again at... I haven't written something on this blog for a very long time. I guess my job(s) + orienteeering season + learning french + planning a wedding :-) has just taken all the time available in the last year. But, I have decided I will try to continue with this blog and write some things once in a while.

Wedding: In 6 weeks, Marc and I will be getting married! I am very excited about this moment in our lives, but we have been busy with the organization.

Learning french: I have been taking 9 hours of lessons per week during the fall. I had time for this mostly because I was injured and could not train and my coaching job is something I can do at any time of the day, for the most part.

Orienteering: My orienteering season 2010 was not the best. I injured my hip-flexor in May in Trondheim during a training camp. I struggled with the injury all season. Running the World champs was frustrating, because I was just not in good enough shape to enjoy it. I did, however, make my first Long distance A final and I was pleased to have this little moment of success. Now I have made an A-final in all three disciplines (Sprint 07, Middle: 09). A small achievement. In June at the European champs I had some good races and also ran in both the sprint and long finals. At that point, I was very hopeful for a good season, but my injury didn't help me get in better shape up to the World champs and I could only "survive" the Long final. Also the relay was frustrating, since I got passed by two teams in the finish shoot. Being injured really takes a toll on the end performance possible. After the world champs, I took a break, but my injury never got better and I spend the whole fall trying to get over it. It wasn't until late December that I started to get some sort of hope for next year. Now, I think I may be able to train again and possibly run at the World champs, but there are many steps I need to achieve before that moment.

Job(s): I seem to have accumulated several jobs. I coach the regional junior team, I co-coach the kids group for our club, and now I have a 30% job at the Federal Institute for Sports in the performance testing department. This is a job that I have done before, so I am very excited to be able to work with the same group again. In addition, I help with the performance testing in the Swiss O team. It seems that having many little jobs can make you really busy. I sometimes struggle with time management.

Well, I hope that there will be more news from me in the future, especially little success stories about my training and next season. I am crossing my figures that I can run regularly again.

Lena E writes: Hi Sandra! Exciting with the wedding, but I can't imagine how you manage to do all that you write about...I have my hands filled with one single essay right now!!! Good look and have a nice wedding, remember to give that day some space, for you and Marc, and not to think of everyone elses needs. Best regards Lena Eliasson

Hi Lena,

Thanks for your comment. It is nice to hear from you! Now there are less than three weeks to the wedding and I am really looking forward to the day. Most things are organized, but there will still be a lot to do just before. I will take your advice and enjoy the moment on the day. It is our day and we will cherish it!

I look forward to seeing you next season, hopefully as a competitor. But if not, I will come watch some races as Marc will certainly be racing and I am his biggest fan;-)

Take care and happy training,
Sandra
