...but where is this all leading?

Opera Awards Weirdness

So the finalists have been chosen for the Opera awards. It's kind of strange this year, the method of voting. If you go to the home page you can see for yourself. I find it a little intrusive to see the results right away. To me, this kind of voting really fuels the ego, fueling the ego is never a good thing. It pumps up those whose blogs are popular; they can see how many votes they are ahead of everyone else. And it depresses those who though they may have high quality blogs with original thoughts, are not getting the numbers of the others. Also, there are so many finalists, not just 5 or 6 like last year, but over 20; it seems like everyone was initially nominated. What's up with that? Anyway, to me it's all a little strange, I don't really care who wins now. Sorry to rain on anyone's parade. So, I'll just keep blogging in my own way, and keep faithful to reading my friends' blogs here.

Unfeckingbelievable...MEOW

And now I have people I don't even know spamming me and asking for my vote. What's up with that?

I agree.

I certainly preferred it last year. Perhaps it would better if the Opera team selected a winner for each category after the initial nominations are done. I mean, it's very hard to imagine public voters visiting 20+ blogs to fairly select a winner for each category. Five was just fine though.

I certainly liked not knowing if I would win or not, though I was pretty sure I wouldn't.

We all have our favorite blogs (and this one is definately one of them) that we visit and we know what we like as far as that goes. Why do we need to vote on whose is best??

I agree Lois!

Exactly!

I ditto this & Lois' sentiments! I may not be able to get to a lot of blogs (stupid dial-up), but this one is definitely one of my fav's!

It's a big mutual admiration club here! I love all your blogs too. Why do we need to vote anyway?

I tend to agree it's a bit of a last-minute muddle this year, probably down to the time spent on the site update. I think even the announcement has disappeared from the 'home' page now.

I agree with all of you and your comments. I think, it isn't needful to "decorate" the established bloggers. What, if we just choose the best new bloggers in future?

sanshan 30. November 2008, 18:37

That's a good idea...but don't they kind of do that with member of the week?

sanshan 23. January 2009, 08:22

Well, OPera admits screwing up now, and now, this year there will be no official winner. hmmm. I hate to say this, but I think that someone found a way to cheat with the voting, and then Opera found out and couldn't fix the problem. I wonder.
