I'm trying...

...but where is this all leading?

Heart

,

I don't usually watch soccer (football to the rest of the world) but I always support the women's game because we see so little of women's sports on television. Today, Canada played Germany in the opener of the women's world cup. Germany, the top team was expected to win, though Canada is ranked sixth in the world. What I enjoy about women's soccer and women's sports in general is that they play with more heart than most men do. Maybe it's because they don't command the huge pay cheques of their male counterparts. You'd think if you make millions of dollars a year you'd try even harder? Didn't work for Beckham. Obviously didn't work for our Vancouver Canucks. Anyway, today, the Canadian team showed heart that is beyond words. They held off Germany to only a 2-1 victory and very nearly tied the game. Christine Sinclair, the Canadian captain and striker was elbowed in the face and had her nose broken. The officials wanted her out of the game but she argued to keep playing despite her nose being obviously bent out of place; I could see the bruising coming up as she debated with the referee. They let her continue because she wasn't bleeding and she went on to score Canada's only goal! Take that! How many teams can say they've scored any goals against Germany? party

The answer comes...Sarma Karma...

England, but that was way back in 1966. They still talk about it though.

Well done Canada.

I can't quite remember the stats, but it's something like around 10 games since they've been scored against in international competition.
