Ghosts, spirits, the small people, trolls, goblins, witches, the white Reindeer, the Man of the Cross, the mysterious labyrinth... It is all a part of the life in this remote municipality of Gamvik
Tourists has become interested in being both guided or listen to the many stories. Many of them not written down but told in generations from parents to their childs. If you ever go up here, the ghost tours are both fun and spooky to attend. If you are a believer or not, it is a part of the folk tales. And a good story will always cheer you up.
Here a photo from a guided tour in the old hospital of Gamvik village. Maybe there is a Reindeer ghost around?
It is just INCREDIBLE cold these days In the news Norway is at the moment the coldest place to live in Europe I have 6 degrees C in my house with all electricity on But with a big and life is good Now off to swim in the harbour of Gamvik
I never regret buying myself some night binoculars. It is a new World for us living in the Arctic darkness for several months a year. Of course everything turns green, but still you can identify most species, like this happy Red Fox I gave him some dog candies. Hard to resist
What an amazing day! First we were out driving on snow sledges with the horses. Later we moved the horses back out to the wilderness. Guess who was happy to rub and clean the fur a bit :-D
There are always something nice in the Arctic Like this Little Auk, a 20cm bird that breeds on islands in the high Arctic. They are often called the penguins of the Arctic, although they can fly very well This one was together with 14 others in a place called Bekkarfjord The photo was taken by a great friend of mine, Mikko Vattulainen, on our way to Finland 3 days ago
Fleas! There are indeed some hardy species hanging around A few species thrive in the fur of several mammals even up here in the Arctic. Like this one, the cozy Megabothris turbidus. Found on rodents and foxes in our area all around the year
Christmas time is working time too Nice to have some Chinese tourists up here and show them our simple days, covered in darkness, beside the Barents Sea Here getting ready to give them a guided tour at Slettnes lighthouse
I need to be more on this blog indeed! Uh, have I said it before Anyway, many things are happening around, even when we are facing the darkness in the north. 2 shrews and a mouse is living in my kitchen People are back in the village with their families. I decided to try out one of the gifts tonight, northern light tea. Mmmmh, amazing
No days are alike in Gamvik! Some time ago a secret package arrived in my post box. And what to find inside? Bird's nest beverage with rock sugar :-D Hahahahaha, I think I know who sent it Anyway, the drink is made from the Edible-nest Swiftlet (Aerodramus fuciphagus), a small bird of the swift family which is found in South-east Asia. Its nest is made of solidified saliva and is also used to make the popular bird's nest soup. Bon appétit xD And thank you VERY much to the sender(s) ^^
