The summer has arrived in the Arctic. Although the temperatures around 4-5 degrees C would not make all visitors feeling warm and happy
Anyway, ringing birds gives us a unique opportunity to study them in detail, see if they return, get controlled other places in Europe, checking for illness and parasites and so on. The brilliant Bluethroat (Luscinia svecica) is just a bird you gotta love. An amazing bloke indeed

Since moving to Fargo, ND, I have seen many birds that I never saw in Arizona. I've been looking them up on the net because the kids don't know what they are. I had a pair of Barn Swallows perch on the rain gutter about six feet from where I was standing one day. They seemed to be just twittering away at me. I stood still for perhaps five minutes to observe them. They have long forked (or split) tails. They were deep blue, almost black, with a rust colored chest. The male had a brighter rust/orange color.
