Post 516 Laptop blue screen & Book 3 pre-publish edition download available

, , , ...

’09 July 01 7:45 a.m. I had a scare last night as I was working on my website to add links for my new book, (Book 3 pre-publish edition) my laptop screen went a dark blue and everything froze up. I waited a few moments to see if it would fix itself but nothing happened so I shut it off. I turned it back on, and it rebooted and seemed to be working okay. For a few minutes I was in a panic as I had not backed up for a few days, so I quickly did so. I plan on backing up every few hours from now on just in case there is a hard drive failure.

3:00 p.m. Well I did it. I finished my book (pre-publish edition) and I revised my websites. I even added Google translator and Revolver Maps to my websites. For those that are interested, here is a link to my third book called, “Journey to the Heart Center.”

Post 435 Website guest-book

, ,

’08 Dec 29 I’ve been working on getting a guest book set up on my website. My website host has one, but when I chatted with a woman about it, she told me that none of the scripts were working, so I’ve been downloading various scripts to find one that I could work with. I had uploaded one and was struggling to sort out a problem and I decided to have another look at the one that my web host was providing, but that was supposed to be inactive.

I clicked on it and I was surprised to see instruction come up to install it. I clicked yes and in a matter of minutes, I had a top notch guest book up and running. But, there is always the proverbial but, I then had problems with logging into my Cpanel (website control panel). My website was still up, but I couldn’t get in to do any changes. After a couple of hours, I submitted a help request, explaining what I was experiencing as well as what I thought might be the problem, (blocked IP address) and sure enough, a few minutes after submitting my help request ticket, I got a reply that that was indeed the problem and they had fixed it..

Post 421 Re-organizing my documents and backing-up

, , , ...

’08 Dec 11 I’ve been going through my computer “documents” and re-organizing, and cleaning them out. It’s been well over a year since I did a “house cleaning” and I want to do a system back up, so it might as well be one that is up to date and organized. I’ve also been doing a couple of website changes as there were a couple of broken links that I noticed. I’m also looking around for an easy way to put up a “pop-up” window on my website to help people view and download a PDF E-Book.

Post 415 Websites up – E-Book available

, , ,

‘08 Dec 01 Well it’s finally happened. I got my old and new websites http://www.saysame.com/ up and running and my free E-Book, “Journeys from the Heart Centre” http://shenreed.com/ebook1.html on my website as a downloadable PDF. It prints out without a problem (8.5x11) and you can copy and paste parts that interest you right from the PDF to any word or text program. I also have draft PDF versions of my next two books that I previously had posted as separate pages on my website. It’s only a month later than I had planned, but it’s now out there and I’m taking a brief breather before I begin working on Book 2.

Post 414 More website issues

, , ,

’08 Nov 30 Sunday 10:30 pm I finished putting final touches on my website, extending the footers across the bottom of the webpage and removing some code for a “hit link” map that I didn’t really want or need.

I also changed some “food for thought” quotes as some of them were duplicates and as I was flipping through the webpage’s in internet explorer, I noticed a page error in “favorites” in john-rieger.com that I just updated. I went back to my computer file and sure enough it was there and I attempted to correct the problem, I thought I had solved the problem, as it looked OK in my webpage editor, but when I re-loaded it on my website and published it, the page was all scrambled.

I spend the next couple of hours trying to un-bug the problem that now was seeming to be spreading to all the other webpage’s that I had previously edited. I was in a panic as I felt that I must have did something wrong when I had previously edited my footers. I even went so far as to uninstall and re-install by webpage editor and that was when things finally seemed to work. I modified “favorites” and loaded it to my website and it was OK.

The only thing that I can determine was that somehow, when that one glitch appeared, it seemed to be “frozen” on my webpage editor, and since all my webpages are similar, the problem seemed to be on all pages, yet it was only associated with the one page that I had first identified. When I re-installed the program, the problem disappeared. I don’t have a clue as to what really happened and why, but the website is working and that’s all that matters in this moment. … Another one of those things that make you go Hummmm?

Post 409 Murphy's laws on website issues

, , , ...

’08 Nov 19 6:30 am I just realized that on top of what I had discovered that was wrong with my website yesterday, that I needed to change all the description and tags in the headers. I had used the “saysame” template, for both john-rieger.com and shenreed.com and had forgotten to change the title and description of the websites.. and now, since I had uploaded them to my website, that mean not only changing them all on my computer, but also up-loading them to my website I can’t just leave it as the internet “robots” and search engines, use the title and description to list the site and so it’s important that people looking for my site are able to reach it.

There was no use in trying to get back to sleep, so I just got up and began working on making the changes. After I had finished, which was close to 10:00 am I went downstairs and had breakfast. After breakfast, I installed the new patio blinds to replace the ones that the dog had chewed a couple of months back. I also cleaned up the basement and then took down some shelves, pictures and odds and ends that Marian wanted to pack.

I then spent the afternoon trying to install saysame.com but I was running into problems as either my website server was down, or the internet was acting up and was slow and timing out. Both issues meant that I couldn’t upload any files or work on my website.

After supper, Marian decided to pack up her computer and in doing so, she accidentally disconnected my laptop from the internet, or rather, she un-plugged my laptop from the USB port and plugged me into the Ethernet connection that she had been using. I thought that my internet connection was running slow again, or had timed out and it took me a while to figure out what had happened, but no soon had I re-connected to the internet and logged into my website Cpanel, then my website server went down again. Ahhhhh! Frustration!!!!!

By late evening my website came back on and I was shocked to see that it wasn’t working. I thought I had done everything in the same way I did the other sites that were working fine, so what ‘s the problem? I was confused as my original website had each section in different folders, each with their own code and images, while my two new sites had everything in one folder. I decided to also upload my files to each folder and with that; I got the website to work just as the server went down again. When it came back up I saw that I now had the new website up and working… BUT… the first or index page was still from my old site. What went wrong? Why wasn’t the index page showing the new site, and where is this old website page coming from if I’ve deleted them all? I was fanatic, I checked and re-checked, deleted and upload file after file but the problem was still there. In the midst of all this, you guessed it; the server went down again. I feel pressured as I only have one day left to get everything up and running….

Post 408 Dentist – E-Book and Website issues

, , , ...

’08 Nov 18 4:08 am Yesterday I had a dentist appointment and she filled the molar next to the one that she removed the last time I visited her. Although it’s was just a filling, my gum and mouth are a lot sorer that when she pulled my tooth. I’m not talking an pain killers and I’m just using sea salt to help with the healing the wound on my gum.

Today I’m starting to feel rushed as we are moving on Friday Nov 21 and I still want to get my new website up and running and my E-books ready to download before the move as I know that afterwards, I’ll get caught up helping unpack and doing little things to get the new place in order.

Last night I loaded up my new website john-rieger.com and shenreed.com and while both sites loaded the text, none of the images showed up. I also created 3 PDF’s of my E-books and up-loaded them on my website and then tested them to see if I was able to download them as well from the links I had made. Once I had the sites up, and began surfing through them I realized that there were some things that I had forgotten, or that I needed to change. I made myself a list of all the work I needed to do.

Post 407 Book and website issues

, , , ...

’08 Nov 16 11:33 pm By late afternoon I had edited and finalized both MS Word doc “E-Book” files, but when it came to making the PDF’s…. MS Word started acting up again and created all kinds of problems with the headers and links to the table of contents.

I was finally able to restore a copy and get MS Word to do a self-repair and I was able to get a good copy of my e-book that I could correct. I quickly formatted it into a PDF just in case MS Word, started its nonsense again. So far it looks OK, but I’ll have to check it out… Again!!!! as I’ll need to see if MS Word did any other changes that I’m not aware of. As soon as I’m finished with what I started with MSWord, I’m switching to Open Office

Sometimes I feel that I’m taking two steps forward and one step back as things just seem to go wrong. If it’s not my computer, or a computer program that is acting up, then it’s my website or the internet service. It seems there is always something that is slowing me down.

Speaking of things going wrong, my website was down again for a few hours, but it appears to be working OK…. for now. That also reminds me of how confusing it is to work in my “Cpanel” (Control Panel) on my website. Some programming nerd decided to have the image link to upload your files named “upload,” but then, he/she must have had a mental mind fart, as they decided to use a file folder and an arrow pointing down as an icon for upload. The word is correct, but the image gives you the impression that the opposite is true. Then, in the next image link to the right, they have another image symbol for “download” with an arrow pointing down. The later makes sense, but the other is off in left field, and no one has seen fit to change it and it’s been there for months. Things that make you go .. Hummmm? 

Post 398 One thing leads to another

, , , ...

’08 Nov 07 I’ve been working on my new website and I left the E-book pages for last and I’m glad I did in a way as there is a lot of work to do. I want to set up the “Three levels of healing” and my manuscript, “Journey to the Heart Centre’ as draft PDF’s. Presently they are on my website in the form of different pages, but with my new book that will be available in a PDF format, I also want to make these available as PDF’s so that they can either be viewed on line, or downloaded, but.. there is always a “but”.. to do that, both will have to be re-worked and formatted.. so that’s another two jobs to add to my list.

Post 394 Working on revising website

, , , ...

'08 Nov 29..... I'm back.. time to get caught up... Been busy as you will see...

’08 Nov 02 Having finally finished my e-book, I began working on revising my website and now I’m frustrated. When I originally designed my website, I never realized, or rather thought, that I was only building it to look good on my monitor. Having a laptop, I of course have a wide screen monitor and I only found out after I had designed the website, when I was having computer problems and I had to use Marians PC, that I noticed that my website didn’t look good on anything but a wide screen monitor and that the right side was getting cut off.

At that time, I was already focusing on editing my book to get it published and that was my priority, so the web site would just have to wait. So now… when I want to put my E-Book on my website, I find that I just don’t have to re-work some pages, but that I basically need to re-do everything. I spent the day trying to re-design the old website and I finally decided that it would take too long and that it would still not look good so it would be quicker starting from scratch.

I searched and found another template #57 LILAC that I decided I could modify as I felt it would look good in all screen resolutions, even down to 800 pixels, not like my present one. It’s still a lot of work modifying the new template and I haven’t decided what I’m going to do with the Header and background yet.

Post 266 MS Word Links - headers and footers - Website

, , , ...

’08 Mar 12 Wednesday, Well I finally figured out how to add internal links to a MS Word document as well as working with the Headers and Footers. It was frustrating as there were several tutorials on the internet about the two topics, but I found only one tutorial on each topic that shared the KEY points. For example, in Headers and Footers it was a small, seemingly insignificant point of disabeling "Same As Previous" in both the header and footer, but if you missed it, you’d just kept going in circles.

I’ve set up the e-book on “My three levels of Healing” in a PDF format and I have to say, having the internal links and the headers and footers makes navigating a snap.

I’m still having problems with my website as it’s been down for a while. I find it frustrating in that while I submit help requests along with screen shots of what I’m seeing on my end that indicates a problem on their end, I don’t get a reply or I get an automated reply that they are looking into the problem…

Post 258 >http://127.0.0.1 No images or photos on web site

, , , ...

I've been dogged with several issues with my website, from an intermittently down server, to my website being blocked by my Internet Service Provider, to finally not having any images or photos on my site. This wasn't a problem in that others couldn't see my images and photos when my website was up.... but that I couldn't see them... After all the other problems were solved, I was finally able to begin to trace the problem with no images or photos when I did a >>> "view" >>>"source" from my browser, and noticed a javascript code and IP address that shouldn't be there.

The javascript code was inserted just before the end </head> tag and before the <body> tag....

<script language=' javascript' src='http://127.0.0.1:1025/js.cgi?pcaw&r=2648'></script></head>
<body>

.. more body html and footer code

and then at the bottom of the page, after the
</BODY></HTML> there was another piece of javascript code...

<script langauage='javascript'>postamble();</script>

I did a web search and found a reference to the http://127.0.0.1 and Zone Alarm (my firewall) in that Zone Alarm uses a JavaScript "LoopBack Adapter" CGI filter to control all privacy settings and behavior. It didn't mention anything about lost images and photos, but it was a clue and so I began to investigate my Zone Alarm settings and sure enough. http://127.0.0.1 was there...

To fix the problem I closed my browsers and then went to Zone Alarm "Privacy" >>> "main" and turned off all the option settings. Next, under "firewall" >>>"main" panel, I switched off my security settings. While there, I checked "zones" and that’s where I found the "loopback adaptor" 127.0.0.1 marked with an entry IP address... and I deleted it.

All this deactivating was required so that Zone Alarm would stop filtering JavaScript (using the CGI Loop-Back).... I then opened my browser and checked my website and it was working fine... I then closed my browsers and went back into Zone Alarms and re-set my security settings... I re-checked my site and it’s still OK… and that's it... I'm back in business.

What I think knocked Zone Alarms off was my logging into, or being on my website, when my server went down, and there was no server "error" message, saying that they were doing service or whatever… and my connection just went off in to cyber space and so Zone Alarms did what thought best…

Post 252 Problem... No Problem… Problem again…

, , , ...

’08 Feb 21 4:22am I had been having problems with my laptop for a while as I’ve been getting “unmountable_boot_volume” error messages on start up. I’ve also been having problems with my website and one other website. On Feb. 07, I took my laptop in to Staples and the same problem that I was having at home was also happening on their internet connection, yet on their laptops, both websites were fine… They decided to send my laptop away for repair.

With my laptop in for repair, I was using Marian’s, and while I had access to a computer ands the internet, I didn’t have access to my programs and bookmarks so again, I felt at a loss.

My laptop came back on Feb 17 and they said that they couldn’t find anything wrong with it… I spent the next two days re-installing my software and files. I did a brief check to see if I could get my website and things seemed OK… but, (always a but) after almost getting everything re-installed, I find that now I can’t get to my website on my laptop, but I can get it on Marians computer.

I was frustrated to say the least. I took my laptop back to staples and I explained that the problem was happening again. They logged into my website with my laptop, and it was working fine. I, and they were confused and the only suggestion they could give me was to check it at home again and if it still didn’t work, to call Rogers (my internet service provider) and see if they could shed some light on the problem. I took it home and when I connected it to the internet, it was still the same so I called Rogers. While they were co-operative, they couldn’t help me at the moment and only offer me some suggestions to try.

I called them a second time and this time the tech had me run some computer checks that showed that my computer was being blocked from my website. He suggested that I call Cirtex, my web host, to see if they could help.

I posted a help ticket to Cirtex outlining what Rogers had told me and I got a reply stating that my website Domain name servers (DNS) had been changed and were now being directed to a Korean site, and that I had to check with GoDaddy, the company that I have my domain name registered with, to see what the problem is… By now it was getting late and I was off to bed.

Post 245 Update - Truck working... again - Website issues.

, , ,

Well I got my truck working AGAIN… I got the truck towed (flat bed) over to the garage and that cost $40.00, and then I got a used ignition installed to the tune of $220.35… Pretty steep I thought for what was involved… and they charged me $75.00 for the used ignition switch. Now I have two keys for the truck, one to open the doors and the other for the ignition.

So far I’ve spend almost $1500.00 on the things for the truck that really should not have needed to be fixed. Transmission seal (4 times), emergency brake (rear mechanism) installed wrong, engine diagnostic, one (1 of 4)front brake pads seized, and now the broken key.

I’ve been using Marians computer, but it’s limited with the programs she has so I’ve installed some that I can use. I‘m also hampered as I don’t have my browser bookmarks…

Now that I’m working on Marian computer, I’m also aware that my website is too wide for her screen resolution… I thought I had checked it before I published it, but I guess I didn’t, so now I’ll have to change that on all my web pages.. I’m also going to be changing my “manuscript” page, but I’m not sure yet what I’m going to be doing with it.

Post 243 Re-formatting my hard drive and website problems

, , , ...

08 Jan 31 Well I finally did what I been stalling doing for months... I finally re-formatted my hard drive. Needless to say I had a few hiccups in that I had forgotten how to do a few things, but I finally figured it out. I also added a couple and deleted a couple of programs.

One thing that had me going was that last night after I had basically finished all the main stuff; I went on line to check my e-mail and I also flipped over to my website. I was shocked to see that the text was OK, but that all the pictures and images were gone! The first thought was that I hadn’t transferred my documents back yet that contained my website files and that maybe, I had some how linked them to my computer files, like I did when I first started building my web site, but I had fixed it.... I thought. The other thought was that there was a server problem. I transferred my website files back to my C-Drive but there was still no change. It was late and I was getting tired so I called it a night.

This morning I went into my website control panel to try an access my image and picture folders, but I couldn't get access. I then wrote an email to my web host, explaining my situation and about an hour later I got a reply stating that they too were working a little work but that they didn't think they had affected anyone and for me to re-check my site. I re-checked my site and everything was working, or almost. I had a three small image links at the bottom of the page and now only one of them is working. I also noticed that the "last updated date" at the bottom of my pages were now all stating.... "Last updated January 31, 2008 1:23 GMT" so they did something. I just checked the site again and now it reads... "Last updated January 1, 1970 GMT"... so they are still doing some work....

Ahhhh! If it's not one thing it's another... I'm going to do some file and folder re-organizing and then call it a day... There has got to be something going on with the internet as this Opera blog is also acting weird... OR... is it my computer that is also doing weird stuff... Things that make you go hummmmm!

Post 178 Links to three of my Healing experiences

I've finally updated my website Saysame, to include descriptions of three levels of healing that I've experienced. I've put them under About Me for the time being. I'm not go into them here, but if you are interested, you can follow the links below. I recommend that you check out the My journey page first and then move to pages for levels 1, 2, 3..

Healing 1 is about healing my fear of knives and healing an "Inner" child
Healing 2 is about my "ignition" point and my "awakening" and beginning to heal my fragmented "Outer" child.
Healing 3 is about an experience in healing anger and rage.

Post 85 Website frustration

, , , ...

Last week I was frustrated with the template I had been working on so I went on the net and found another template and began modifying it. It seems that I’m always running into new problems and issues with this template too, but I’m managing to solve them.

Now I’m torn between what I call template #4 and #5 the newest one, as both have features that I like, but #4 was the one that was giving me a problem. I’ve learned a couple of things with #5 and so I went back and modified #4 and now it can also be used… so now I have two to choose from.

I then started to add my content and I got into more issues, especially where picture were concerned and now, type font is also an issue, that wasn’t an issue before.. Ahhhhh! Fuckstrating to say the least.

Post 78 Feeling Anger and Rage

, , ,

May 14 Feeling Anger and rage

Marian got out of the hospital on Sunday. They kept her in for almost a week and had her on an IV drip and a reduced diet. They suspect her pancreas was acting up due to a recent change is medicine ordered by the same doctor that I was talking to in the hallway about my recent experiences with drugs. An hour after I picked her up from the hospital, she was visiting friends.

I’ve been trying to get back into working on my website template and I have to undo the changes that I made the other day. I’m feeling anger and rage in that nothing seems to want to work for me. I do one thing and ten things seem to go wrong that change the whole template. It’s like one step forward and two back. Things change that shouldn’t be changing as I never touched or alter them.

What is this anger and rage? I ask for help in healing it or in moving it to its right place if it’s not mine. It feels like me or a part of me that is tired of being held back and “played” with. I feel like there is this “big brother” that is fucking with me, fucking with my mind, emotions and body, doing anything he can to confuse, frustrate and belittle me. He’s not really smarter than me, he’s just a bully, not wanting anyone to out do or out shine him. He’s afraid of competition, of being knocked off his lofty perch that King Fuck is sitting on... the heartless fucker. Only seeing his side, his loveless point of view and anything else is considered a threat to the status guo and so he tries to eliminate it. I’d like to knock him on his ass and send him flying to the other end of creation. He says he’s love... but only as long as you agree with him.

Post 45 Creating confusion with mis-information and/or Ignorance

, , , ...

A further note on confusion...

In my Websites Control Panel "Cpanel" under "File Manager" there are two headings marked in bold. One is Upload file(s) and below that is one named Up one level Well the upload files says what it means... I click on it to upload files from my computer to the server... BUT the one marked "up one level" doesn't mean going up (forward) or ahead to the next level.... it means.... going back to the last page you were on... Dah! To me... that's like saying... "see ya later" instead of "Hi, nice to see you."

I don't know if this is a deliberate attempt to create confusion.. or just ignorance of the language or both. And I'm not just talking about the guy or gal that wrote the program... it's all the brain dead intellectual idiots that have input to the system and the ability to change the error and eliminate confusion but they don't say or do anything about it... That's what tic's me off...

As I wrote that I though... what's the difference between this Internet issue and any other issue. It could be the government, a company, religion or anything else where confusion is involved... the same type of mentality is also involved.

John

PS: My website is still acting up... and weird shit is happening... When I link to my main site from my "About me" or My Manuscript sites I get one template version of my Main website.. even if I refresh the page.. it doesn't change... But when I click on saysame from any of my other sites.. a different website template is shown... And they also flip-flop... My old website was being shown on My Manuscript site last night and this morning it's my new website template and it's visa versa for the other sites...

PPS: I don't get it? DAH! I just checked the links to see if they were working and now everything is pointing to my new template... I think I'll work on my book...

Post 29 Laptop - Kaput, mort, guasto, muerto, meptbo, dead!

, , , ...

Well I guess you're wondering where I've been for the past few days. I've had a couple of glitches with my laptop and I've had to do a system restore the other day. I got the message from my intuition on Tuesday to do a back up and save my files, but I was in the just in middle of getting back into writing my book so I felt I'd do it after I finished that section. Wednesday came and I got my external hard drive out but still wasn't finished and by 10:00 pm I was tired so I said, it will wait until tomorrow..

Well Thurdsay came and I was on the net and I left to get a second cup of coffee. I came back and there was a black screen where normally my screen saver would have kicked in. I re-booted my computer and scan disk came up, so I let it run... Twenty minutes later it was still at running at 9% so I shut it down.. I waited and rebooted.. nothing.... but a black screen. I waited and re-tried but all to no avail. I called the local computer repair place and he said that Acers were know for that and that it was my hard drive.

I took it in and he said he'd have to order a drive and that he would have it fixed by Friday.. Well I called and the drive hadn't come in yet... They're open tomorrow, so maybe it will be fixed by then, if not it will be late Monday..

When I get it back I'll have to re-install all my programs or rather all the programs that I use as well as having to go back and re-write all that I wrote before it crashed... Just another classic example of me not listening to my intuition...

I was wondering whay all this was happening and I realized that what was lost was PROGRAMS, computer programs some of which I no longer need or use but have been hanging on to "just in case." Now I can install just the programs I need and the rest can stay off my computer and lighten my load.

This past wek I was also looking into getting a real website where I can bring all my sites together under one roof and also be able to expand like I want to. Yep. I'm talking paying for a site and putting an end to most of the free ones I have. They were OK as they got me this far but now it's time for a change.

I also realized that back on Jan 17 (post 15) I had to get a new battery for my truck..
Battery = energy...
Computer = memory + information...

UpDate: Feb 10 Sat. Good news and bad news. I got a call from the computer shop saying that it wasn't my hard drive as I was told over the phone, but that it was something else and that he would be looking into it on Monday...

Post 19 New WebSite

, , , ...

I have a couple of free web sites that have changed their service recently and I was having problems with them just as I was having problems with "Blogger" and so I had to make a change. I've been busy the past week, getting a couple of web sites transferred to another site and today, it's finally finished. I've changed most of the links to the new site "About me" and "My manuscript".

This is not a permanent situation either. I have a domain name "saysame" and it's just in a parked account for now. I plan to get a host site where I can combine all the different sites I have in one place. I've been stalling and taking the easy route as all the free web sites have had an "on site" web editor that made it easy to build a basic site. I have "Dreamweaver" and "Contribute" on my laptop, but I don't really know how to use them. I basically set this new site up using "Coffee Cup" HTML editor, and even that I was just using the basics along with what HTML I had learned a few years ago when I was putting up the other sites.

If any of you are interested in a "free" web site with some decent disc space and bandwidth and no or very little text advertising, then check out these sites...

Web Browsers
Opera It's fast has some nice features and it also blocks a lot of pop ups and nasties.
Firefox is also a good browser, but it's been getting slow with all the features it's been adding, but it has some features that Opera doesn't so between the two of them, I'm happy... Notice I didn't even mention.....
