Amorphophallus titanum

Die Pflanze besittz eine unterirdische, bis 75 kg schwere Knolle, aus der ein einzelnes, bis 6 m hohes und beinahe ebenso breites, mehrfach gefiedertes Blatt austreibt. Das Blatt bleibt 9 bis 24 Monate stehen und liefert, bevor es abstirbt, die Nährstoffe für eine neue, größere Knolle. In unregelmäßigen Abständen von mehreren Jahren wächst anstelle eines Laubblattes ein kolossaler, bis über 3 m hoher und 1,50 m breiter Blütenstand.

Der Blütenstand stellt im blütenbiologischen Sinne eine Blume dar, und zwar die größte im gesamten Pflanzenreich.

Die Titanenwurz ist ausschließlich auf der Insel Sumatra (Indonesien) zu Hause.
