Life's Little Annoyances #470 - Having Too Many Nicknames For Holly

, , , ...

So far we have:

  • Bean
  • Beany
  • Hollybean
  • Ickle Pickle
  • Icky Picky
  • Icky Von Picky ,shortened to
  • Icky Von

  • Grumple Stiltskin (when she's in a mood)

I get a bit carried away :frown:

Life's Little Pleasures #412 - Operation Baby Watch™

, , , ...

Khadgar introduced me to Twitter, and I am slowly coming to the conclusion that it's one of the best things on the web. I love the concept of micro-blogging (if that's the right term), and it's ideal for my random thoughts. The fact that it integrates so well with other blogging platforms makes it a great centre to my online world.

I was dubious at first (not being a fan of this social networking malarkey), but what sold it for me is the ability to send updates by text messages. This is going to be a major part of Operation Baby Watch™, which is potentially going to begin very soon. I'm trying to get friends and family to sign up to Twitter so that I can update them on Holl•E's arrival. It's not because I'm being a cheapskate, sending one message to update several people at once, but I daresay I'll have other things on my mind when the day arrives, and the ability to broadcast news with one message is going to be very handy indeed.

I also love the ability to send picture message updates via Twitpic. I doubt Wifety will be in a very photogenic mood, but it's going to be nice to be able to share photos quickly. On a sidenote, whilst MyOpera has this ability, it never manages to remove my operator's signature (even though I tell it to), which is a little frustrating. MyOpera is still the best blogging platform that I've come across, and it makes me happy that my posts get sent to Twitter via Twitterfeed.

I don't know how many people will be involved with Operation Baby Watch™, but those who are currently following my Twitter updates don't really have a choice in the matter... muhahahahaha!

Life's Little Pleasures #207 - Three Little Lines

We had our third scan today, and bean finally behaved enough so that we could determine the sex. As you can quite clearly see from the scans (!), bean is a girl! Pip did have a sneaky suspicion that the baby would be a girl, and I have to admit that I did too :D

It's fantastic news, and having got two little brothers, it's going to be nice having a little girl in the family. Everything is fine, and Bean's looking healthy. Though now we know the sex, we probably can't keeping it Bean for much longer. The quest for a name continues!

Life's Little Pleasures #175 - Seeing Bean Again

, , ,

It's been 8 weeks since we last saw Bean, and today Pip and I went for our 20 week scan. It really is amazing to see Beany move on the monitor, and he/she has grown so much.

We were hoping to find out if he/she is a he or a she, but unfortunately, Bean was not playing ball! As you can just make out, their legs are tucked up, and so it was impossible for the sonographer to tell. More importantly, due to this she couldn't carry out all the tests that needed to be done. Of all the ones done, everything is fine, but it does mean that we have to go back in two weeks to have another scan.

That's actually really good, because I love seeing the baby. On the scan today we saw Bean's little face, hands, feet, and heart. We even saw it sucking its thumb. Well it probably wasn't, but it looked like it  It also keeps to suspense about the sex going for that little bit longer...

Life's Little Annoyances #67 - Misreading "Stairgate"

, ,

Pip and I are on the lookout for cheap baby products. We're looking at classified ads etc. to try and pick up some bargains in time for bean's arrival. Even though I know we're looking for things like stairgates, every time I see one listed in an ad, I misread it as "Stargate" and get excited at the prospect of being able to purchase a means of intergalatic travel, for a very affordable price.

I did a bit of investigating on t'Internet, and what do you know! You can actually buy a "Stairgate SG1". I'm definitely getting one of these :D

Life's Little Pleasures #37 - Dressing Babies Up As Stuff

, , ,

It's a well-known fact that babies are cute. My little little brother is proof of this:

See! Very cute indeed! It is also a well-known fact that babies in costumes are even cuter. Again I will call on my LL brother to prove this:

He's wearing a pirate hat! Cuter!

As we've now announced the future birth of Bean, Pip's started to buy stuff for the baby. I think I'm going to lay down some ground rules, and be quite strict about this: Bean can only wear outfits that make him/her look like something else. I think that this will make him/her that much cuter, and provide countless "embarrassing picture" material for when they are older.

This was Pip's first baby-related purchase (and a bargain at £0.50, no less!), and it's good to see she's sticking to the rules. Note the ears on the hat which will make Bean look a little like a bear. Genius.

Whilst searching for baby outfits on t'Internet, I came across this site, and I'm sure you'll agreed that it is the Holy Grail of baby costume sites. Just look at this one:

A polar bear! Just how awesome is that?!?! Okay, that may be going slightly over the top. Perhaps I should just stick to the subtler efforts...

Life's Little Pleasures #32 - Learning How To Look After A Baby

, , ,

As a first time parent, I'm pretty sure I'm going to need some advice on how to look after our new born. Luckily G-Off pointed me in the direction of this site (albeit a while ago...). It's very informative, as you can see.

Life's Little Pleasures #3 - Tough Decisions

, ,

Having told people that Pip's pregnant, one of the first questions that people ask us is "do you want to know the baby's sex?". We're not sure, and it's such a hard decision to make. You've got the romance of surprise on one hand, but the practicality of knowledge on the other. At the 20 week scan you can apparently find out the sex, and so we have around 7 weeks to decide. Pip and I are both people who like to be prepared, and I think we're leaning toward finding out, just so we can buy things/decorate accordingly (and as my little little brother is only 6 months old, see what hand-me-downs we can nab  )

Knowing the sex then brings another, probably more important decision: baby names. I think Pip and I starting thinking of names as soon as we found out. Although we have got a couple of definite contenders, we have struggled to find names that we both like. Here are a few of the names that have been vetoed by either (or both) of the prospective parents:

Names for a boy Names for a girl
  • Mario
  • Luigi
  • Link
  • Optimus
  • Galvatron
  • Ganondorf
  • Geoff
  • Chewbacca
  • Obi Wan
  • Indiana
  • Han
  • Boba
  • Peach
  • Daisy
  • Zelda
  • Samus
  • Leia
  • Padme
  • Geoff
  • Amidala
  • Rogue
  • Moneypenny
  • Lara
  • Cheetara

Some cracking choices there, I'm sure you'll agree! Has anyone got any names for us? You may have guessed that the above choices were less than serious (most are my big little brother's suggestions), but if anyone has ideas for names, I'd love to hear them!

Life's Little Pleasures #1 - Meet Mini-sea!

, , , ...

Pip (or Wifety to those who know), is 12 weeks pregnant, and today we had our first scans \o/

We found out that she was expecting about 2 months ago, and it's been a big secret until now :D Now we've had the scans, and everything seems to be fine, we thought we'd let the world know!

It was such an incredible experience seeing little "Bean" (as we've called him/her) for the first time, and the scans don't do it justice. In the second one, you can just make out his/her little hand!

The due date is on the 25th September, and I can't wait :D Although it's pretty scary how things will be changing from now on...
