STICKY POST

Sprouting Bean

,

After a brief exchange with FB on twitter today, I realised that I've been pretty poor at posting new pictures of Holly. I'm never sure how interested people actually are of seeing copious amounts of photos (and we take a lot), and so I've never been very active in uploading them.

Wifety, on the other hand, is very good, and her Facebook albums are full to the brim :D I'm going to make amends, somewhat, and I've stated a web album on Picasa. This will sync, with any new photos that I place in the folder on my laptop, so it will hopefully be easier to keep up-to-date.

My plan, although a little cliché, is to take and upload a picture of Holly everyday (or at least as close to that as possible). The danger is that, as I really only see Holly before work (when she's eating breakfast), or after work (when's she's eating dinner), they will all be pictures of her eating! Ah well, at least she takes after her old man

I've tried to go through the photos I already have, and choose one, or two to add to the album from each day we have taken photos of Holly so far. I can email pics from my phone, so I'm hoping that it will build into a nice collection. It's already scary to see how much she's changed in such a few months!

You can see for yourself... read on to see the slide show!

The Perfect Match

Today I was going through some files on my computer, and I stumbled accross a screenplay I wrote back in 2005. My sister had set up a film company, and was after short film scripts. I thought I'd give it a bash, but never got around to showing it to her.

Anyhoo, as I was reading it again (it's not great - it was my first, and only attempt at writing a screenplay), I realised that one of the characters is called Holly. I'm not sure if this had any influence over my daughter's name, but it made me smile. I've always like the name, but it just threw me a bit.

As it's been sitting on my hard drive for 4 years, I guess I should really post it - at least that way someone might actually read it!

So, without further ado, here it is!

EDIT: Apparently that link is causing difficulties, so try this one, if that's the case.

New Holly Pics! Holly at Christmas

I think my camera's going to be very busy over the festive period. It was inevitable that I'd have to open up a new album to accommodate all the photos.

Well, she is the cutest baby EVER (even if I say so myself  )

Yes, it does mean that my lightsaber swinging has to be a bit more restrained, and any battles with rogue Jedi and Rancors are going to be a little subdued, but it's the best way to play!

Imagine the scene... It's late at night. Holly's unsettled, and I try to comfort her. She slowly calms done as I pace back and forth, and then falls asleep in my arms. I go to put her back in her cot, and slowly move her toward it. Reminiscent from the above scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark, I carefully place her down, knowing that one false move could start her off again, and unleash a rolling boulder* if she wakes.

But success is oh so sweet :D It's just not how you'd want to emulate Indy.

*metaphorically, of course. The room's not booby-trapped with spears, rocks, or poisoned darts. Well, not that I know, anyhow.

Hours of endless amusement (in between the crying and pooing...)

And I've taken the opportunity to upload some more pics to the Hollybean album.

Holly's Arrived!

,

What an unbelievable week it has been! From being woken up at 1.30am last Saturday by Pip telling me she thought her waters had broken, to Holly being born about 15 hours later, and then being taken away shortly afterwards with breathing problems.

I don't think I've had such a roller-coaster of emotions before, going from the trauma of seeing Pip in labour (due to a variety of things she couldn't have a painkiller, and she really needed one), the elation of Holly being born and holding her in my arms,

then the fear and panic of her turning blue and being taken to the Neo-Natal Unit and being attached to so many wires and tubes.

She was in there for just over a week, and although they unit has 24 hour visiting, you can't help feeling distant from her, and helpless.

Each day we hoped to see improvement, but for the first few days she was stable, but not improving. All we could do was look at her through the perplex, as the Doctors told us they wanted to have minimal interaction, concentrating all her energy on breathing.

But then there was a distinct change. It's like her lungs finally got the idea, and kicked in. She was taken off the oxygen for longer periods, and we even got to hold her.

The nurses and staff were fantastic, letting us getting involved as much as we could; changing her nappy, and helping with the feeds.

One by one the different wires came off, starting with the oxygen, then the drip and monitoring leads, and finally the feeding tube.

I was moved into the hospital to help establish a feeding routine, and slowly Holly started to feed for longer and longer. She wasn't, however, putting on weight, but the Doctors allowed us to take her home on Monday.

We had to take her back in today, to make sure that she had put on weight, and she had! A whole 4oz. So now she is home for good, and we're enjoying every minute of it. Even the night where she didn't settle until 4am :D
