Then suddenly, you hear quick sniffing coughs that sound like asthma. A few minutes later you see him forcefully blurts out some 60 something grains of rice and other chewables on his laptop screen and shouts ‘SHYET!‘ extremely loud on a 14 year old girl belting out “And I’m Telling You I’m not Going”
It was only a week ago when I discovered the news about a certain young Pinay who ‘wowed’ South Korean superstars in a variety show. I was hesitant at first about it–for a lot of reasons. One, we’re only known in Korea for their own convenience of cheap English proficiency education in the Philippines and two, as far as the entertainment industry is concerned, we’re just practically ‘unknown’ there since the Korean entertainment industry focuses more international market to China, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand.
Charice Pempengco with her liveliest LIVE rendition yet of “And I am Telling You I’m Not Going” by Jennifer Hudson. Don’t tell me you’re not going to be amazed by this performance
I just couldn’t believe how the Korean audience, including the members of Super Junior (a very popular Korean boyband)in that show (Star King) was astonished by Charice’s very powerful singing. I mean, standing ovation in her NO NO NO NO WAYYYYY WHOAAA!!!!?
Wait, is that a kid singing?
[Woman] “OMG, I need to see this (shivers)…”| [Man] “I can’t… whoah “ For those who don’t understand what they’re trying to exist on the vid, they were just SOOO amazed on how a young 14-year-old (Korean age: 15) lady–I mean ‘young lady’ would sing something like that of a 30 year old with so much power and flawlessness.
Even I was dumbfounded at their reaction–their overwhelming reaction, like it’s the first time of their lives that they saw a young kid belting out songs of 20 to 30-year-old divas. Here in the Philippines, almost every municipality has an amateur singing contest held occasionally, and for us fiesta-loving Filipinos, it’s quite not unusual to see youngsters ranging from 6 to 10 years of age performing the highest notes of Whitney Houston or Regine Velasquez’ singles.
“Whoah… whoah… I couldn’t believe it… wow.” There, they all stood up, waving their hands (as though getting some fresh air), clapping, and repeatedly whoah-ing.
However, I am suddenly saddened by the stature of our perception–perhaps our industry’s standards–to what make makes a person a star. To think that that mature, controlled but effortlessly powerful voice coming from a young teenage Filipina is already worthy of a big round of applause in my very own room, the overflowing number of young talents here in the country would seem to obscure her and and have other aspirants to capture the brighter limelight of stardom. And going outside this room overpopulated with talented individuals and seek for a room with–well, not exactly untalented–will make him/her noticeable.
Just like what Charice Pempengco did in Star King, which I think is good.
Why good? Okay, take this as a good examply.
She just simply inhaled a tankful of air, posed a little bit, then...........
There you go!
Would you believe that this real ‘rising internet star’ Charice was only a runner-up on Little Big Star, following Sam Concepcion (that handsome, total package, wonder boy who dances like Gary Valenciano but sings like Britney Spears. Lol) on the ‘honor roll’? For first time viewers, I know you wouldn’t believe hearing it from Charice saying she’s just a finalist. But with that kind of talent, those Koreans already knew that this so-called ‘runner-up finalist’ in one of the biggest TV networks in the Philippines already has a bright, bright future ahead of her.
Just imagine a big-time entertainment outfit SM (not the ShoeMart, of course) asking her to sign as a major talent right after the taping of that show. And she even had the ‘closest encounters’ with one of the most popular superstars in Korea which any die-hard SuJu fan would envy. Like.......
Being personally given with a bottle of Evian water from a SuJu member (with a foreground of the host’s imitation of her R&B belting) and…
…a SuJu member wiping off her sweat with his own ’shining shimmering splendid’ scarf
And she even danced with the the rest of them! She was like, oh, a diva that can sing pop can even do the Harlem. Totally outrageous. I mean, she too was joking around, having some funny stints with the jurors of that show, and in the end hugged not one, but TWO SuJu members within a short period of time. (Aside from the behind the camera scenes, Charice has been a lucky, lucky girl.)Another thing… after the dancing part, she even had a duet with Kyu-Hyeon, singing “A Whole New World”, which really gave my skin the highest goosebumps from a variety show.
Not to mention that some of the members were like crying a river during their performance. Isn’t that awesome?
[Final Fantasy Battle Triumph theme playing on the background ]
Take that, die hard SuJu fans.
Because of that, I’ve been playing the video for like a hundred times already and unbelievably, I still can’t get enough of it. I’m getting more and more amazed each and every time I witness how a 14-year-old Charice wowed Koreans and netizens alike.
What do you want? Talent? Charice can give you REAL TALENT!
Just look at her YouTube vids, as well as all the articles posted on the Internet about her and her performance. Or if you can read (and type) Hangeul, try daum.net or kr.yahoo.com. Some of the silliest comments I can read were like her lip-synching and that she’s not really 14 years old but 5 years older. Oh c’mon, isn’t that obvious that they were just toppled by a young Asian kid from some ‘high’ school in the Philippines.
Now, she’s even featured TWICE on E!’s Daily Top Ten this week. It’s so amazing. Finally, someone from the mass media officially confirmed that she is NOT lip-synching.
(Ergh, I guess stupid people would delude themselves that she’s fake. Duh?)
Ultimately, with all the wits and charm, and an electrifying talent demonstrated, Charice has annexed a global bridge between the Philippines’ finest young talents to the rest of the world.

Interviewing Charice at Star King, then danced with Super Junior
And of course, the duet between Charice and SuJu’s Kyu-Hyeon (Kyu-Hyun)
UPDATE: Charice has been featured on E! Channel. TWICE! Unbelievable. Go Charice!
Second feature: “A Queen is Born on Daily Top 10
After getting so much popularity worldwide via ALL the video streamers on the Internetz, Charice Pempengco finally was recognized by none other than Ellen DeGeneres! OMG! And she even called her as Charice’s no. 1 fan!
Charice Pempengco featured on Ellen DeGeneres Show. OMG. Charice! Welcome to Hollywood!
And I got great news for you. Charice is now in LA preparing for her guesting/taping on the Ellen show on December 18! OMG! I WANT TICKETS TO THE STUDIO! Which means that episode might air more or less before Christmas. Can’t wait for her another Christmas exposure!
Plus, remember her duet with one of the greatest vocalists of Super Junior KyuHyun? Well, here’s the good news–they’re gonna do ANOTHER duet on Star King right after her taping on the Ellen DeGeneres show. COOLNESS!!
Even Ellen’s hesitating to believe her no. 1 idol Charice was there in front of her with the crystal ball on LCD between them.
…
(Grabs another glass of water, drinks a quarter then splashes it on a person next to hi—-no, sorry mommy, I thought you weren’t slee–AWCH!)
This is IT! CHARICE PEMPENGCO LIVE on the ELLEN DE GENERES SHOW!
This is the full YouTube vid of Charice Pempengco’s short interview and both her renditions of “And I am Telling You I’m Not Going” by Jennifer Holliday and, of course Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. ENJOY !
Though she really exerted so much effort to look confident, I noticed that she’s really really nervous while Ellen asked her questions. I didn’t even understand what she first said to Ellen… nice person, nice buildings–everything looked nice and all. Lol. But of course it’s utmost acceptable. I would even lose my sanity when facing an international personality in front of the American audience (like stuttering on my impromptu news reporting on Eat Bulaga) and voice out the same thing (and forget everyone who helped me all throughout.) Anyway, Ellen was also star-struck to see Charice Pempengco in front of her, she’s like excited to hand Charice the mic for her to sing the Dream Girls anthem…
She belted a different version of Jennifer Holliday’s “And I am Telling You I’m not Going”. And oh, check out how the cameraman and the lights people struggled on her walking to and fro the stage (creating unnecessary shadows from the cameras). Even the clapper (in white) on the right side of the audience seats was caught off guard by the camera (hahaha).
And take a look at this:
And your mom? Awe… Just like me after winning a hundred thousand bucks from Eat Bulaga, she could have never been more prouder what with the standing ovation. Kudos, Charice!
OMG. Did I just see Ellen DeGeneres giving her a brand new iPOD???? An iPOD TOUCH WTF!!!
Charice just lost her iPod during her flight to LA and…
And now..
That really brought Charice into tears (and me) because of her getting a new iPod (while I’m not. Pfft.)
UPDATE: For your information, Charice Pempengco performed two songs on Ellen. And here it is–a choppy, poor audio recorded spectacular performance of Charice Pempengco’s 1st and 2nd song on the Ellen DeGeneres Show with an astoundingly breathtaking and poignant rendition of “And I am Telling You I’m Not Going” and Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” live on American TV.
And I am Telling You I’m Not Going (w/ prior interview)
Here’s a news clip of TV Patrol covering Charice Pempengco after her magnificent stint at Ellen DeGeneres show.
Gap and Breaches open the way being hurt and abused but if some will stand in the gap for us, we acquire security and assurance. God, in fact, desires that we should take out duties as GAP Guards for one another.
We cannot avoid making choices in our daily lives. Trouble sets in when we begin to view our choices as a matter of right and personal freedom instead of an opportunity to please GOD by means of total surrender.
Twice a year, year after year, something strange happens to Metro-Manila's road system. A new comer, who is not familiar with the cultural ethos attached to annual religious observances, would probably opine that Philippines has one of two things: A super strict road restrictions system or a country with a moribund economy. The number of vehicles on the road is far too few to indicate progress and freedom of movement. Ofcourse, I know that this strange silence of the roads in Metro-Manila has nothing to do with either a super strict road system or a faltering economy. It is just that at this time of the year, many Metro-Manilans with provincial roots would take the time to travel back to their places of birth, or where they took their elementary education or just to visit the living and the dead members of the family or the clan.
Being a country with a very high percentage of its population belonging to the Roman Catholic Church, the Philippines road system is affected by two major Roman Catholic events in November.November 1 is referred to as the ALL SAINTS DAY, celebrated in honor of the saints recognized in the Roman Catholic Church. whether they be known or not known. It is considereda SOLEMNITY which means it is a required annual celebration. The most popular Solemnities in the Roman Catholic Church ( aside from All SAINTS DAY are the EASTER Sunday {called the Solemnity of the Solemnities}) and the Solemnity of the Rosary of the Most Blessed Virgin.
November 2 is also an important event in the life of Roman Catholic population. It is called the ALL SOULS DAY, which is a remembrance of all the faithful departed as recognized. Unlike the All Saints Day, All Souls Day is not fixed for November 2. If November 2 falls on a sunday, or if a SOLEMNITY falls on November 2, All Souls day is moved to Nov. 3. On this day, Requiem ( literally - Rest ) massses are offered for the souls that have not been perfectly cleansed from venial sins or from any sin or transgression that has not been atoned for. The masses on all souls day is premised on the belief that the souls are not in heaven but in purgatory as they have been barred from or not fully qualified to enter the BEATIFIC VISION (presence of God in heaven).
Admittedly then, there is no pain associated with the All Saints Day celebration. All Souls day, on the other hand, properly understood can bring pain and anxiety.
1st) it is premised on the belief that the departed one has not entered heaven and was therefore not admitted into the presence of GOD.
2nd) it is premised on the belief that the departed one in purgatory needs help from this side of the universe through prayers and good works.
The anxiety is caused by the realization that nobody really knows how many years will a soul stay in purgatory (if such place exists) before he is allowed to enter beatific vision. In worst situation are those who are no longer remembered by their loved ones and therefore no specific masses are offered in their favor.
In contrast, the Bible speaks of a reality that provides the assurance that a child of GOD can go directly into the presence of GOD after death. I will quote the words of the Apostle PAUL in ( 2 Corinthians chapter 5: verse 1-10 )
The following is a general guide to ways you can alleviate pain. This is only my opinion, and only applies to muscular skeletal pain involving pulled or strained muscles or tendons.
Acute Pain 1. See a doctor 2. Use the R.I.C.E. method R = rest
I = ice (at least twice a day 10-15 minutes)
C = compression
E = elevate
Massage therapy can help, but do not get a massage for 3 days.
Chronic Pain
1. See a doctor...but try to keep surgery on the last resort list.
2. Ice - (at least twice a day 10-15 minutes)
3. Moist heat. Try 10 minutes ice, then 10 minutes heat for a few rounds. It can work wonders.
4. Avoid alcohol and caffeine. Caffeine causes tension in muscles. Alcohol, while making you relaxed when you drink and kills pain, actually causes inflammation in body tissues. You do not need additional tension or inflammation when recovering from chronic pain.
5. Consult a physical therapist or research what exercises will help you build strength in the area where you are experiencing pain. Don't do an exercise that causes pain while you are doing it. Ice after exercise.
6. Take epsom salt baths. You can buy them at the drug store, they come in a carton and are not expensive.
7. Massage therapy, especially Trigger Point therapy can greatly reduce pain.
8. Ice again. Ice after massage therapy too. Then take an epsom salt bath.
9. Stretch...don't force anything!
11. Supplements. MSM is a great supplement to take for pain. MSM occurs naturally in the body, so you can take it without any side effects. I usually take more than what they prescribe on the bottle. MSM promotes the development of collagen and helps to repair the muscle skeletal system.
10. Once you are pain free, be cautious when exercising. It is really easy to re-injure yourself, so start slow!
Chronic pain can cause a tremendous amount of stress and frustration. One thing I've learned is to remain calm, and know that I will recover. It's crucial to keep a positive attitude. Take life one day at a time. Pain sufferers quickly learn what it feels like to 'be in their body', and symptoms can change daily. Address your symptoms each day. Ice is the best anti-inflammatory you can use, it's better than any drug you could ever take. I used to hate ice, but now it's the first thing I turn to when I feel the slightest bit of pain coming on. Ice is your friend.
