I need a new phone

, , , ,

I've been using a Nokia N73 for just over a year now and its been a really good phone to use. I've been posting here solely via the phone, mostly uploading pics via email and using Opera Mini to update posts.
The phone developed some fault a couple of weeks back where the joystick would just keep scrolling down when it was just touched and it could not be stopped. I showed my phone to an expert who pressed the joystick and its has been working fine for now. He said that I've been using the phone excessively hence the joystick may have become loose. That really worried me, and I'm trying to be careful as I use the joystick.
Now I've been looking around for a replacement phone before this phone is seriously damaged.
I've been very pleased with the performance of this handset so I'll probably stick to a Nokia device. Also I use a lot of symbian apps so the new phone will need to have a symbian OS. I prefer a candybar shaped phone and I'm not too keen on using a touch screen device.
I've considered the available options and the phone I'm interested in is Nokia N79.

Its very similar to the N73, more like a upgraded version. With features like a 5mp camera, gps, wifi, faster processor, etc I'm really looking forward to get my hands on this phone soon.

Love the camera spec, and I, too, prefer not to have touch screen. I like the tactile feel of buttons so I can dial/text without really looking at it.

Yeah me too. I'm pretty used to the standard keypad with T9 so I don't really need a qwerty keypad.

It's a pretty thing, too. heart

I dislike touch screens as well. We should really start a standard keypad fanclub! bigsmile

and the "5" has to have the bump on it. up

Yeah. But I'm gonna try and steer clear of joysticks in the future.

For a candybar Symbian handset you've picked one of the two best ones. up The other alternative being the N82 with a better camera, larger screen and slightly higher RAM, but ugly as hell.

One warning about the N79. The Clear key is placed in just the right position that it's easy to hit the call end key when trying to delete something. The amount of posts I've lost due to that problem on other phones...

@Cgman I will once I get the phone.
@Mik Thanks. I will try to be careful. right
Do you know where I can find out about the RAM on the phones?

N79 has 72MB after start up. up

Also I've noticed there isn't a pencil key. Does it still support copy and paste?

The pencil was removed in the later versions of Symbian. To highlight you hold down the # key and move the cursor. Once something is highlighted you can hit the left softkey for copy and the right one pastes it wherever you want while the key is held down.

There is a copy and paste feature on the N79. The Nokia N73 was my fave phone for quite a long time and its very cheap and nearly as good as the N79, the only problem i had with the N73 was a sticky keypad through excessive use. Only had one problem so far with my Nokia N79 and that was simcard registration failed message very annoying but solved easily by a memory reset havent had the problem since. Both the N73 and N79 are amazing phones.

The only difficulty I face with the N79 is that the back cover is hard to remove p so I finally switched my network provider to Aircel.
