I previously had uploaded a different version of this photo in which I had desaturated all but the cheeks. However, it was pointed out to me that this kind of edit is not permitted by the group's rules. doh So here is a somewhat different crop of the image that I had toyed with before doing the semi-desaturated version.

Here's a different edit cropped from the same photo.

yes This is actually very nice in colors wizard But much more difficult to say on which one the composition and direction is better. Maybe the composition is better on color version and direction is better if bird watches to the left.

I'm not a fan of selective coloring, but i like both. star s
The back ground in the edited version seems to be less distracting. wink

That's usually the reason why B/W or sepia is sometimes a good alternative bigsmile Here, at S&T one could also try vignetting, which is allowed wink That could also make the peripheral area less distracting.

I like both. In the colored one the somehow sad eye gets more attention, the background is not disturbing at all in the first, the grey and black tones work as a color, i like the colored one more, the second is more dull smile up

It is extremely rare for me to do selective coloring, but in this case I did like how it came out. There is some straw in the background that kind of distracts me, and I thought the B&W made it less noticeable. I don't really know what vignetting is, but I bet there's some post on it at our site, and I'll try to find it.

Thank you, everyone, for the information and feedback you provided.

For example here smile The point is to make the image darker towards the edges, and to draw attention to the center of the image.
