Welcome to Shoot & Tell Robert, Izrael, Magwagwa Mpho Juda, Sajjad Ahemd, Ina and Eva20yrs smile Welcome back to S&T Mimi’s Mum party And cheers for Eva W., Thomas and Sami who have started their second album cheers

New members, please let us know with what name you wish us to call you. We would like to be informal here and use only first names. And since we already have one Eva, we need to start using initials for Eva W. and for Eva20yrs wink Then we would like to remind you all about our rules. We have noticed many of our new members do not have EXIF date displayed. Therefore we have to ask you to add the exact date when picture taken into description area. Moreover, some of you do not have the month tag mm/yyyy at all or tags are used incorrectly. Please do read our rules once again. Using dates and tags are all explained there.

Finally we ask you to notice there are new albums for some of our active members. This is because updating albums after 500 pictures becomes either impossible or at least very difficult. So, after 500 pictures everyone are allowed to start a new album.

Advisory to Canon EOS DSLR owners
Mimi’s Mum has let us know the following advisory:

Product recalls
Canon EOS 650D DSLR cameras
17 Jul 2012

Note: cameras branded 'EOS REBEL T4i' or 'EOS Kiss X6i' in other markets.

The problem
A chemical reaction due to a fault in rubber production may cause zinc bis to form on the front grips of the camera. This may cause allergic reactions for some users.

Details
The affected product is sold in New Zealand as the Canon EOS 650D DSLR camera. The cameras were produced between 31 May 2012 and 15 June 2012. Canon has confirmed that 14 affected EOS 650D cameras have been purchased by consumers through Canon Authorised Resellers. The company is in the process of contacting these customers to address the issue.

The cameras may have also been purchased by direct import from overseas or via a local reseller of overseas products. These products will be branded Canon EOS REBEL T4i or Canon EOS Kiss X6i.

What to do
Visit the Canon website and enter your camera's 12-digit serial number to see if it is affected. The serial number can be found on the base of the camera (see right).

Canon has taken steps to alert known users of the affected products and provide free support.

If you have purchased an affected model overseas please contact the place of purchase to arrange repairs with the relevant distributer.

Movement theme

Since most of our active members and moderators are having their summer vacation during July and August, we will have an extended theme this time. The theme starts today on July 10th, and lasts till the end of August. And topic is Movement theme.

Earlier we have had a Traffic theme, which you may find inspiring also for this theme. But this time the theme is much more broad. You can shoot anything that is on the move, and use long exposure to emphasize the movement. You may have seen this forum discussion on how to use very slow (low) ISO and neutral density filter to get even half minute exposures in bright daylight. Another option is to use two polarization filters to limit the amount of light getting through the lens.

Another approach to theme is to stop the movement. For example use fast (high) ISO and very short exposure, or even electronic flash to freeze the movement.

And don't forget any alternative approaches on this topic wink http://www.thefreedictionary.com/movement

We also have an extra task for you. As a homework we ask you to follow the Motion theme tag and get inspired by pictures of other members:up: Pick one of the pictures posted by someone else, and choose some element on it. Then use that idea on your own them shot. On picture description tell us what picture inspired you and what element you used. This element can be the composition, color, exposure, subject or anything you like.

Please use the theme tag like this:
Movement theme,mm/yyyy

Theme starts today, July 10th, and lasts till the end of August. We would like to see at least one of your photos for this theme, but bear in mind the limit of 40 photos per month.

We will have July exhibition normally, but on end of August we ask all of you to pick a Movement theme picture for the August exhibition smile
