June 2012 S&T news

Call for June 2012 exhibition

Pick out the best photo of June from your own album and send the link in a PM to shoottell.

For June exhibition we would like to have the links by the end of June 30th at the latest. It will take a few days to put this together, so the exhibition will open the door around the 3rd of July 2012.

We hope you all will join in and send your best of the month that you would like to show a bit extra. If you find it difficult to decide what is your best picture of the month, then let moderators to decide! We hope to see photos from all of us!

Statistics

Themes are here to stay! Almost 80 Contrast theme pictures and over 100 Green theme pictures proves this. Oddities theme however, was perhaps too challenging. Although, almost 60 pictures is not bad either.

The number of active members with albums is currently alarming decreasing. We are about to close few inactive albums and no new members since April. One problem is that many of us have been busy. But please folks, do remember, recreation is just as important as daily bread up

Articles on photography will be back soon

We have had no articles on photography lately but surely we will have them again when we just some time to recruit some new writers and/or write them by ourselves. There are at least several interesting topics that deserve attention. For example articles on mobile phone photography and short GIMP introduction could be topics we think would interest our members. But if you have any ideas who could we invite and what kind of topics would interest you, please tell us here on comments.

Instead of promoting one camera, I suggest writing introduction for web sites that already review cameras and camera phones:
http://www.dpreview.com/
http://www.biofos.com/index.html (for Olympus)
http://www.gsmarena.com/
If anyone knows any more web sites like these, please share up

I am not promoting OM-D - I am not affiliated with Olympus irked

Sami Serolaserola Thursday, June 21, 2012 6:19:08 PM

Promoting was maybe not a good choice of wording from me. Nevertheless, reviews on one camera only is maybe not a good idea, I think. More useful are articles on "how to use cameras in general" or "where to find information to choose cameras". I'm only trying to be constructive irked

I dont agree. Reading about what the newest gear offer is both intersting and relevant.

There are millions of articles about "how to use your camera" online so I dont get your argument!

The problem is that a review focused on one particular camera model is still useful only for them who has that camera or who are planning to buy one.

More the reason why it would be useful to review those. Aka write an review where best web sites are listed.

But by all means, do write the article on Olympus OM-D EM5 then! Surely we can try if our readers find those kind of camera specific articles interesting. I recommend referring into following sources:
http://www.biofos.com/mft/omd_ann.html
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/olympusem5/

It is like reading about the new Porche 911, damm interesting eventhough I may never own one bigsmile

Will wait and see if there are more responce on the OM-D article!

dpreview took a few indoor shots and wrote about OM-D on that basis down
Good idea to review reviewers up

The number of active members with albums is currently alarming decreasing.

I was going to rectify the situation but it looks like a community bug is preventing me from uploading. You'll have to bear with the empty album for a while. Shame I am going to miss the June exhibition deadline. But stuff happens. coffee

Oh, one question. Do I still have to upload 4 photos for June, even it is 9pm 30 June here in NZ? The rule says 4-40 photos per month but does not specify if the "month" means current calender month or over a 30 day period.

Thomas Oneclicksamoht1 Saturday, June 30, 2012 9:15:32 AM

Hi MM

The rule is current month!

Have you tried @ upload?

We are aware of upload problems so you can upload when Opera have solved problem smile

OK.

I don't know what that is but if you mean using email to upload, I have never used the facility for photo uploading because my attempt at emailing blog post was unsatisfactory. I would rather wait until the bug is fixed.

I'm off to bed soon. Thank you for the head-up, Thomas. Have a nice weekend. smile

Thanks and Sleep well MM smile
