It means that you are new to something. Widely used in online gaming. It is used as an insult by people who think they are "better" because they can press a few buttons faster, this talent can be attributed to their non-existent social life. These people firmly believe they never had a learning phase, they just picked up the game and started taking names. If you happen to beat them in their own game, they will resort to another tactic, calling you a cheater. The only constructive purpose of this segment of population is to demonstrate the fragile and volatile ego of the human population.
P.S: If you are wondering what is the difference between the Noob with alphabets and the one with zero's instead of 'O', the latter is called Leet speek(Elite Speak). It's not a complicated concept, substitute similar looking numbers for letters...Voila! You are a leet(Elite). E.g: n3xt, se7en, 1rish. Yeah, that's all it takes to be an elite.
A controversy is swirling over our peaceful world and threatening the survival of everything we hold dear...What is this horrible menace? A video game. Who is guarding us? Fox News.
The following video will tell you the story. If you are unfamiliar with this game, here is a quick primer.
What game: Mass Effect, a role playing game that lets the user to develop his/her character by making decisions in the game Publisher: Electronic Arts(EA) System: Xbox, watch out stupid pun ahead
Just to provide a contrast, here's a video Robert Greenwald put together to illustrate the despicable attitude of Fox News towards Women.
Part two of my not-so-smart guide to 2008 Presidential race
Duncan Hunter: I swear, I have no idea who he is...May be Google will, tough call though
Fred Thompson: Has a hot wife.
John McCain: The "maverick" candidate. He was at least partially fulfilling the obligations for that term till he jumped into this race, now he is the most avid fanboy for the Iraq war and is trying to shore up ties with religious fundamentalists, a group once he denounced...But, still he calls himself maverick for some reason.
Mike Huckabee: The surprise candidate. It is a mystery why media is repeating that there is no one in the republican field who appeal to the base. Because Mike is white, southern, and an evangelist. With that three qualities, there is no need for any domestic or foreign policy, and to justify my thought he is the current front runner.
Mitt Romney: One of the leading candidates, has a powerful fund raising machine. Often gets questioned on his Mormon faith, which is awkward but it does help him by conveniently masking his questionable transformation to a somewhat moderate person to a hardcore conservative. In other words, Mitt Romney 2008 will hate the living lights of Mitt Romney 1990-2005.
Ron Paul: If you have not heard about him, then you are not using the Internet. Yes, the world wide web is filled with Paul admirers, quite often their endless canvassing and never-say-no spirit becomes infinitely annoying. The left is taking a look at Paul too, thanks to him being not crazy as other Republicans. It does tells something about Republicans though, when all it takes to appeal to other side is to be not crazy(Thankfully, others in the field don't follow this heretic Paul, so the field is sticking with the Republican spirit). Thanks to this fandom, he is breaking fund-raising records. No one knows, why this fandom is not transforming into votes, but since the pattern of Paul supporters and Spam e-mailers match, it is suspected that there is only a handful behind making an average Internet user yearn for V1agara or low rate mortage instead of Ron Paul.
Rudolph Giuliani: He was alive on 9/11, was in NYC during 9/11. Remains in the state of 9/11, wants to have a 9/11 based approach to his policies. His policies range from 9/11 to 9/11. Wants everyone to remember 9/11, forget his countless follies as a mayor. Probably going to hate me for not mentioning 9/11 in the later part of the previous sentence. Claims he will always remember 9/11, and may be that will explain why he has no clue about 9/12 or 9/13 or 9/14...
Tom Tancredo: Will get two votes, his and his wife's. His children remain undecided.
Barack Obama: Great speaker, and for that alone will provide a break if he is elected as the President. Has some good policies too, moderate in approach, and it is a mystery why he is sticking with his middle name, Hussain, and a last name that rhymes with a terrorist leader. My guess is that he just loves to be picked on by xenophobic morons, aka Fox News anchors.
Bill Richardson: Always promotes diplomacy as the preferred political discourse, but miserably lacks the charisma to accomplish anything using that technique with the American voters.
Christopher Dodd: Not sure who he is, Google it
Dennis Kucinich: Promises that he will restore Habeas Corpus, sign Kyoto Protocol, provide Universal Health Care, fix Social Security, will withdraw from NAFTA and WTO and correctly identifies global poverty as a main reason for terrorism. Why the main stream media is not granting him any attention and often labels him unelectable? Check the list of his policies again.
Hillary Clinton: Highly polarizing, but she is the leading candidate for Democrats. Some people hate her without even knowing her platform, some hate her with complete knowledge about her platform. Wall Street Journal reports that the Wall Street is behind her, so she is most likely to secure the post, even passing stereotypical slogans like "Life's a bitch, why vote for one?"
Joe Biden: Will get nowhere near the presidency, just runs to keep the "anyone can be president" dream alive in Children.
John Edwards: Has impressive views about poverty, working class and health care. Somehow his stellar hair cut manages to steal the media attention rather than those views.
Mike Gravel: Has radical views on contemporary politics. Points out the level of corporate control that is plaguing our political arena. So, remains as the one who can be easily labeled as "the crazy one".
Twin Solid State Musical Tesla coils playing Mario Bros theme song at the 2007 Lightning on the Lawn Teslathon sponsored by DC Cox (Resonance Research Corp) in Baraboo WI. The music that you hear is coming from the sparks that these two identical high power solid state Tesla coils are generating. There are no speakers involved. The Tesla coils stand 7 feet tall and are each capable of putting out over 12 foot of spark. They are spaced about 18 feet apart. The coils are controlled over a fiber optic link by a single laptop computer. Each coil is assigned to a midi channel which it responds to by playing notes that are programed into the computer software.
First article is about the decline in the IQ of the American students:
American kids, dumber than dirt Warning: The next generation might just be the biggest pile of idiots in U.S. history
....We are, as far as urban public education is concerned, essentially at rock bottom. We are now at a point where we are essentially churning out ignorant teens who are becoming ignorant adults and society as a whole will pay dearly, very soon....
Comcast, the largest US internet service provider (ISP), has been caught mangling with web traffic of its subscribers. When Peer to Peer (P2P) traffic flows through its servers, Comcast inserts a specific signal, known as a reset packet with the traffic. This signal tells the other user that you are closing the program and it also tells you that the other user has closed the program, in reality none of the users did. Comcast also sends this signal by spoofing user IP addresses, so for the program, the signal came from the respective users but not from the Comcast server. So, unless you examine the network traffic with specialized programs, Comcast's tampering will remain in the dark. As I am writing this, Comcast is telling the world that it is not blocking the traffic but "delaying" the traffic. Great News, Thanks Comcast.
The Net Neutrality activists have been warning about similar scenarios for a long time now. Corporations will ultimately divide internet into tiers to maximize their cash flow. This incident is just the tip of the iceberg. What if a company does the same to the traffic, that originates from a specific website...say a website of a competing business or a political party whose ideology is deemed unfit or an organization that opposes the ISP. Just like that, censorship can kick in to our free lives.
Our best hope is to keep Internet as it is now, as it is intended: no tiers, no classes, free for all, open to anyone and equality for everyone.
I really don't want to write about the right's fuming about the MoveOn.org ad and Obama's attire. Not because any procrastination or lack of thought but how many times can you get angry, stand in awe, get frustrated, wonder, examine, smile, shriek in horror, worry about existence about the sheer stupidity of the right? It's so bad, that I am getting suspicious whether there is an alternate reality that exists exclusively for the right. Because what most of the people think are serious topics that need immediate attention somehow vanish out of the intellectual(?) realm of the right. So, let me just present a list and hope that captures at least the basics of the situation.
Some of the issues on planet Earth: Global Warming Poverty Genocide in Sudan Wars Religious Fundamentalists Nuclear Weapons Income Disparity Labor Exploitation Pollution
Issues that torture the souls of the right: News paper ads Lapel pins
