Is There a DifferenceBetween Kufr [Disbelief]and Shirk [Polytheism]?

Al-Albaani: The reality is
that the case with every
beginner student of
knowledge, and I was like
that and probably still am,
I used to read this hadith
and it would be
problematic, because in
some narrations [there
occurs], “There is nothing
between a man and
disbelief except
abandoning the prayer.
So whoever abandons the
prayer has disbelieved,”
and in some narrations, “…
then he has committed
shirk.”
Interjection:
Subhaanallaahil-Adheem.
Al-Albaani: I used to ask
how can he have
committed shirk? Yaa akhi,
this person who has left
praying, especially the
one who does so out of
laziness, how has he
committed shirk?
I used to think that
maybe there was a
mistake on behalf of the
narrator [of the hadith], I
was a student of
knowledge, then later our
Lord granted me success
in understanding, even if it
was when I was older
alhamdulillaah, [he
granted me success in
understanding it] such
that I recognized that
legislatively, as opposed
to linguistically, there is
no difference between
kufr and shirk.
So all kufr is shirk and all
shirk is kufr there is no
difference between them
legislatively, linguistically
there is, because in the
language kufr means to
cover. Shirk is to make
something a partner of
another, like the
polytheists who make
equals with Allaah.
But later I came to
recognise that every
unbeliever, even if he
wasn’t a polytheist
linguistically, he was in
reality. No unbeliever is
free from being anything
but a polytheist [mushrik],
our Lord said, “Have you
seen he who has taken as
his god his [own]
desire?” [Jaathiyah 45:23]
He took as his god his
own desires, so, everyone
who follows his desires
has made it a partner with
Allaah, thus, any kufr–[for
example] if someone
were to reject a letter
from the Noble Quraan it
would mean that he has
put his intellect in charge
and has taken it as a god
and it is from this angle
that the shirk has come.
So, the one who said that
all disbelief is polytheism
and all polytheism is
disbelief spoke truthfully,
not like the one who says
that not all kufr is shirk
like you heard from at-
Tahawi.
In reality this is
knowledge which is very
rare and is something
through which many,
many problems are
resolved, from them
being the verse, “Indeed,
Allaah does not forgive
association with Him, but
He forgives what is less
than that for whom He
wills.” [Nisaa 4:48]
I read [a mention of] a
problem about this verse
in the Al-Manaar
magazine which Sayyid
Rashid Rida used to
publish. An objection
came his way which stated
that the meaning of the
aayah is that these
unbelieving Europeans
who believe in ‘nature’,
they call it nature, i.e., that
this universe has a creator
and who do not know any
more than that, it is
possible that Allaah will
forgive them because
they are not polytheists.
And so Sayyid Rashid
Rida at that time was not
able to give an answer
like this one which if he
had known then would
have been the sound
judgement [about this
topic], [i.e., that] all kufr is
shirk and all shirk is kufr.

[Inspirational Watch] “From Every 1000, Take Out 999″ | Shaik

A beneficial reminder by
Shaikh Abdullah Ibn
‘Uthmaan adh-Dhimaree
hafidahullah regarding the
Hadith of Abu Saeed al-
Khudree, may Allaah be
pleased with him. May
Allaah make us that one
person from every 1000
who will be saved from
the hellfire
Video uploaded by
SalafiCentreUK
This Hadith is transmitted
in the two Sahihs (Bukhari
and Muslim) from Al-
A'mash, after Abu Salih,
after Abu Sa' id Al-Khudri
who narrated the Prophet
(Peace be upon him) to
have said:
"Allah will say (on the Day
of Resurrection), 'O
Adam!' Adam will reply,
'Labbaik wa Sa'daik, and
all the good is in Your
Hand.' Allah will say:
'Bring out the people of
the fire.' Adam will say: 'O
Allah! How many are the
people of the Fire?' Allah
will reply: 'From every
one thousand, take out
nine-hundred and ninety-
nine.' At that time
children will become
hoary headed, every
pregnant female will have
a miscarriage, and one
will see mankind as
drunken, yet they will not
be drunken, but dreadful
will be the Wrath of
Allah."
The Companions of the
Prophet (Peace be upon
him) asked, "O Allah's
Messenger! Who is that
(excepted) one?" He said,
"Rejoice with glad tidings;
one person will be from
you and one thousand will
be from Gog and
Magog."
The Prophet (Peace be
upon him) further said,
"By Him in Whose Hands
my life is, hope that you
will be one-fourth of the
people of Paradise." We
shouted, "Allahu Akbar!"
He added, "I hope that
you will be one-third of
the people of
Paradise.We shouted,
"Allahu Akbar!" He said,
"I hope that you will be
half of the people of
Paradise." We shouted,
"Allahu Akbar!" He
further said, "You
(Muslims) (compared with
non Muslims) are like a
black hair in the skin of a
white ox or like a white
hair in the skin of a black
ox (i.e. your number is
very small as compared
with theirs)."

Difference Between TheBeliever And The OneWho Turns Away FromEemaan

ﺴﻢ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺍﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ ﺍﻟﺮﺣﻴﻢ
Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn
Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may
Allaah have mercy upon
him) stated:
"Whoever believes in the
messengers and obeys
them, their enemies
display enmity towards
him and harm him.
Therefore he (the
believer) is tested by that
which hurts him. If the
person doesn't believe in
them and he doesn't
obeys them, he is
punished in the life of this
world and in the
hereafter. Therefore that
which hurts him comes
about. And that which
hurts him is the greatest
of pain and more lasting
than the pain that befalls
the followers of the
Messengers. Therefore its
a must that that one goes
through hardship/pain
whether you believe or
turn away from Eemaan.
However (the difference
is that) the believer
experiences pain in the
life of this world to start,
then he will have a good
ending in the life of this
world and in the
hereafter. As for the one
who turned away from
Eemaan, he will
experience delight to
start with then he will
proceed on to the
everlasting punishment."

Muneer alaa at-Tafseer"

Secretive Sect of theRulers of Syria

An interesting article in
the Telegraph, makes a
mention of Ibn
Taymiyyah. Is reproduced
here out of interest. There
is a mention of Ibn
Battuta in the article so
we should note that there
is a fabrication against Ibn
Taymiyyah in the writings
of Ibn Battuta which has
been employed by the
gnostic, esoteric Sufis to
attack Ibn Taymiyyah -
that is for a separate
article.
Secretive Sect of the
rulers of Syria
By Christopher Howse
7:59PM BST 05 Aug 2011
Many people have been
killed in Syria. Its
president, Bashar al-Assad
comes from a family that
is Alawi by religion, even
if the Baath party, which
he leads, is secular. So,
what do Alawis believe
in?
Some say that the Alawis,
one in 12 of the Syrian
population, worship Ali
(Mohammed's son-in-law)
as God; that they believe
in reincarnation; that they
deny women have souls.
A reputable work like the
Oxford Cyclopedia of the
Modern Islamic World
(1995) explains that they
are "extremist Shi'is"
whose "religious system
separates them from
Sunni Muslims". On the
next page it suddenly
says that they "also
celebrate Mass, including
consecration of bread and
wine".
The one certain thing is
that, like the Shia, who
have also gone through
repeated persecution,
they follow the practice
of taqiyya, usually
translated as
"dissimulation". The
Alawis keep their central
beliefs secret and verbally
profess beliefs they do
not hold.
One must be careful here,
because an esoteric
religion like that of the
Alawis often uses strongly
metaphorical terms.
Indeed, their enemies
(whose accounts are the
fullest) complain of just
that. So Ibn Taymiyya, a
fierce jurist of the 14th
century, much loved by
wahhabi activists today,
called the Alawis "greater
disbelievers than the
Jews, Christians, and
Indian idol-worshipping
Brahmans", since they
used the pillars of Islam
to cloak their own beliefs,
meaning by "fasting"
keeping their secrets or
by "pilgrimage" visiting
their sheikhs.
Ibn Battuta, the
wonderful traveller who
lived a little later in the
14th century, wrote that
they believed Ali was
God, that they did not
pray ritually, or practise
circumcision or fast. They
did not attend mosque or
keep in repair mosques
built for them, he said.
Those historical sources
give them the name
Nusayris, after a follower
(in the ninth century) of
the 11th Imam of the
Shia. The name Alawis is
regarded as politer.
When, in 1925, the French
set up an Alawi state, they
overprinted Syrian stamps
(pictured) "ALAOUITES".
To English readers they
became familiar as
Ansaireehs, through a
popular book by the Rev
Samuel Lyde, a Church of
England missionary who
lived among them in the
1850s. His book The Asian
Mystery came out in
1860, the year of his
death, aged 35.
Lyde tried to bring
Christianity to the Alawis.
Life among them
convinced him that they
resembled the heathen of
whom St Paul wrote:
"filled with all
unrighteousness,
fornication, wickedness,
covetousness,
maliciousness" etc. It was
no frame of mind to win
Converts, even if they had
been amenable to his
message. Lyde very much
disliked their brigandage,
feuds, lying and divorce.
On their secret practices,
such as their "Mass", he is
unreliable, depending on
written sources. Even by
his own account its ritual
was a consecration of
wine relating to Ali and
God, not to the life and
death of Jesus. But at
least Lyde had seen their
mountain life of poverty
(which he found less
hungry than in many an
English city) and harsh
treatment by officials of
the Ottoman empire.
I mention Lyde because
his colourful account still
exerts a strong influence,
being widely referred to
on the internet. Just as
false an idea of Alawi
belief is to be had by
claiming it as a survival of
Zoroastrianism or making
it an Ismaili sect.
If, as is claimed, it sees Ali
as the meaning (mana) of
God; Mohammed as the
name (ism) of God and
Salman al-Farisi (a Persian
companion of
Mohammed's) as the
door (bab) to God, then
the Sunni are right to
think that the Alawis are
not Muslims.
No one foresaw that this
mountain sect would one
day produce the rulers of
Syria...

Why do Muslims RejectAtheism?

Is The Existence of a
Creator Something That
can be Proven Logically?
Atheism can be described
as the belief that no
creator exists, and that
the universe was not
brought about by divine
knowledge, will and
ability. The following is a
short excerpt from Sacred
Freedom which follows a
process of logical
deductions to show that
our universe must have
been created by an All-
Wise and All-Knowing
Creator:
Pivotal Quote:
“Those who believe in
chance concede that it is
something which is not by
nature ordered. Once this
is understood, the
following question must
be asked: How could
something that is by
nature disordered
consistently create
order? This is a scientific
impossibility. Hence, it
must be concluded that
not only has a Creator
created our universe, but
that He is also continually
administrating its awe-
inspiring affairs.”
Excerpt:
To demonstrate the error
of those who deny the
existence of a Creator,
one may consider the
ordinary example of how
a book comes into being.
The existence of a book
necessitates the existence
of a publisher who
possesses three
attributes: Firstly, this
publisher must possess
the knowledge of the
required fields of
expertise for the
production of this book.
Secondly, the publisher
must possess the will to
carry out such a task by
consciously embarking
upon this project. Thirdly,
the publisher must
possess the ability to
carry out the task of
creating the pages, cover
and binding of the book
while finishing it with
distinction.
Once this is understood,
the irrationality of
claiming that a book
created itself, or that it
came about by mere
chance, becomes
apparent. Is it possible to
legitimately claim that a
book came about without
a publisher, or that this
universe came about
without a Creator - solely
on the basis that this
publisher or Creator has
not been seen?
In actuality,
understanding that a
Creator exists is much
easier to grasp than
understanding that a
simple object like a book
has an originator, as the
formation of our universe
is far more sophisticated
than the formation of any
one particular object.
Accordingly, the Creator
stated regarding those
who deny His existence:
“Were they created by
nothing, or were they
themselves the creators?
Or did they create the
heavens and the earth?
Nay, they have no firm
belief.”[52:35-36]
These verses prove that
just as it would be
impossible to claim that a
book was created by
nothing, it would also be
impossible to claim that
mankind was created by
nothing. Likewise, just as
it would be impossible to
claim that a book created
itself, it would also be
impossible to claim that
we created ourselves.
Only one other possibility
exists; that mankind and
everything in this universe
was brought about by an
All-Knowing Creator.
It can be concluded that
all things are known to
come into existence by
designers that possess
the three attributes of
knowledge, will and
ability to create. No other
conclusion can be drawn,
except that our universe
was fashioned by a
Creator who possesses
the knowledge, will and
ability to create such an
incredibly awe-inspiring
formation.
Indeed, certain pieces of
evidence left behind at
the scene of a crime are
considered incriminating
proofs that lead courts to
settle cases in an absolute
manner. In the same way,
Allah's Signs within His
creation and the logical
evidences contained
within His revelation
contain even more
definite proofs that we
were created by an All-
Knowing, All-Powerful
God.
“And upon the earth are
Signs visible to all who
have faith with certainty,
just as there are Signs
within your own selves.
Will you not then
see?” [51:20,21]

Story of a man whosuccumbed to Temptation

Story of a man who
succumbed to Temptation
Inspirational Read !!
It is related that a group
of people were once
seated in the company of
Al-Hasan Al-Basri, when
some men passed by,
dragging along with them
a body of a dead man.
When Al-Hasan saw the
dead man, a glint of
instant recognition could
be discerned in his eyes,
and he fell unconscious
from the shock of some
memory that had just
been rekindled.
When he regained
consciousness, his
companions asked him
what was wrong with him.
He said: This man –
referring to the dead man
being dragged along on
the ground – used to be
one of the best
worshipers and one of the
most renowned ascetics
(in the world) (renouncing
all the temporary
pleasures of this world
because he was so busy
and devoted to worship).
One day he left his home,
intending to go to the
Masjid to pray, but on the
way, he saw a beautiful
young Christian women,
who became an
immediate temptation to
him.
When he proposed to
her, she refused, saying; “I
will not marry you until
you become an adherent
of my religion.”
He went on his way, but
as time went on, he
yearned for her continued
to increase. He then
succumbed to her wish
and exited from the fold
of (Islaam) the religion of
pure, unadulterated
Monotheism.
After he became a
Christian and some time
passed, the woman came
out to him from behind
the curtain and said, “You
are a man who is bereft
of goodness. You have
forsaken your religion,
which was important to
you for your entire life,
simply for the sake of a
lust that is of no value.
Indeed, I too am
forsaking my religion, but
not for the same reason. I
am doing so in order to
achieve a blissful
existence that never
comes to an end, an
eternal existence under
the care of the One, the
As-Samad (i.e., Allaah; The
Self-Sufficient Master,
Whom all creature need,
He neither eats nor
drinks).” She then recited
the entire Chapter of Al-
Ikhlaas:
“Say (O Muhammad (saw):
“He is Allaah, (the) One.
Allaah-us-Samad (The
Self-Sufficient Master,
Whom all creatures need,
He neither eats nor
drinks). He begets not,
nor was He begotten;
And there is none co-
equal or comparable unto
Him.” [Qur'aan:112:1-4]
When the people had
heard about what she had
said, they approached her
and asked, “All along, you
had this Chapter
memorized?“
“No,” she answered. “By
Allaah, I had never known
it before. But after this
man continued to insist
upon having me, I saw a
dream; I saw Hellfire, and
my place in it was shown
to me. I became terrified
and panic-stricken. Maalik
– the custodian of the
Hellfire – said to me: ‘Do
not be afraid or sad, for
Allaah has ransomed (i.e.,
saved) you with this man
(i.e., he will take the place
in Hellfire that you would
have taken had not Allaah
saved you).’ He then took
me by the hand and
admitted me into
Paradise. Seeing a line
written inside of it, I read
it; among what was
written were these
Words:
“Allaah blots out what He
wills and confirms (what
He wills). And with Him is
the Mother of the Book
(Al-Lauh Al-
Mahfooz).” {Qur’aan
13:39]}
He then recited the Al-
Ikhlas Chapter to me, and
I began to repeat it. Then
I woke up and had it (the
Al-Ikhlas Chapter)
memorized.”
Al-Hasan then said, “The
woman then embraced
Islaam, and the man
whose corpse you just
saw being dragged away
was killed for having
apostatized. And I ask
Allaah to make us firm
and steadfast upon
guidance and to grant us
safety and success.”¹

7 Fundamental Questionsabout IslamPrepared by: Abu 'Iyaad,

What is Islaam?
The word “Islaam” is an
Arabic word that means
“submitting and
surrendering your will to
Almighty God”.
The word comes from the
same root as the Arabic
word “salam”, which
means peace.
Unlike the names used for
other religions, such as
Buddhism, Hinduism and
Christianity, the name for
the religion of Islaam was
both revealed by God
and carries a deep
spritual meaning – only by
submitting one's will to
Almighty God can one
obtain true peace both in
this life and in the life
hereafter. Islaam teaches
that all religions originally
had the same essential
message – which was to
submit whole-heartedly
to the will of God and to
worship Him and Him
alone.
For this reason, Islaam is
not a new religion but is
the same divinely
revealed Ultimate Truth
that God revealed to all
prophets, including Noah,
Abraham, Moses and
Jesus.
Who are Muslims?
The Arabic word “Muslim”
literally means “someone
who submits to the will of
God”.
The message of Islaam is
meant for the entire
world and anyone who
accepts this message
becomes a Muslim.
Some people mistakenly
believe that Islaam is just
a religion for Arabs, but
nothing could be further
from the truth, since in
actuality over 80% of the
world's Muslims are not
Arabs! Even though most
Arabs are Muslims, there
are Arabs who are
Christians, Jews and
atheists.
If one just takes a look at
the various peoples who
live in the Muslim World –
from Nigeria to Bosnia
and from Morocco to
Indonesia – it is easy
enough to see that
Muslims come from all
different races, ethnic
groups and nationalities.
From the very beginning,
Islaam had a universal
message for all people.
This can be seen in the
fact that some of the
early companions of the
Prophet Muhammad were
not only Arabs, but also
Persians, Africans and
Byzantine Romans. Being
a Muslim entails complete
acceptance and active
obedience to the
revealed will of Almighty
God.
A Muslim is a person who
freely accepts to base his
beliefs, values and faith
on the will of Almighty
God. In the past, even
though you don't see it
as much today, the word
“Mohammedans” was
often used as a label for
Muslims. This label is a
misnomer and is the result
of either wilful distortion
or sheer ignorance. One
of the reasons for the
misconception is that
Europeans were taught
for centuries that Muslims
worshipped the Prophet
Muhammad in the same
way that Christians
worship Jesus. This is
absolutely not true since
a Muslim is not permitted
to worship anyone or
anything besides Almighty
God.
Who is Allaah?
Very often one will here
the Arabic word “Allaah”
being used in regards to
Islaam.
The word “Allaah” is
simply the Arabic word
for Almighty God, and is
the same word used by
Arabic speaking Christians
and Jews.
If one were to pick up an
Arabic translation of the
Bible, one would see the
word “Allaah” being use
where the word “God” is
used in English. Actually,
the Arabic word for
Almighty God, “Allaah”, is
quite similar to the word
for God in other Semitic
languages – for example,
the Hebrew word for God
is “Elah”.
For various reasons, some
non-Muslims mistakenly
believe that Muslims
worship a different God
than Jews and Christians.
This is certainly not the
case, since the Pure
Monotheism of Islaam
calls all people to the
worship of the God of
Noah, Abraham, Moses,
Jesus and all of the other
prophets. However, even
though Jews, Christians
and Muslims worship the
same God -since there is
only one God – their
concepts concerning Him
differ in some significant
ways.
Who is Muhammad?
The last and final prophet
that God sent to humanity
was the Prophet
Muhammad.
Muhammad explained,
interpreted and lived the
teachings of Islaam.
The Prophet Muhammad
is the greatest of all
prophets for many
reasons, but mainly
because the results of his
mission have brought
more people into the
pure belief in One God
than any other prophet.
Even though other
religious communities
claimed to believe in One
God, over time they had
corrupted their beliefs by
taking their prophets and
saints as intercessors with
Almighty God.
Some religions believe
their prophets to be
manifestations of God,
“God Incarnate” or the
“Son of God”. All of these
false ideas lead to the
creature being
worshipped instead of the
Creator, which
contributed to the
idolatrous practice of
believing that Almighty
God can be approached
through intermediaries. In
order to guard against
these falsehoods, the
Prophet Muhammad
always emphasised that
he was only a human-
being tasked with the
preaching of God's
message. He taught
Muslims to refer to him as
“the Messenger of God
and His Slave”.
To Muslims, Muhammad is
the supreme example for
all people – he was the
exemplary prophet,
statesman, military leader,
ruler, teacher, neighbour,
husband, father and
friend. Unlike other
prophets and messengers,
the Prophet Muhammad
lived in the full light of
history. Muslims don't
need to have “faith” that
he existed and that his
teachings are preserved –
they know it to be a fact.
Even when his followers
only numbered a few
dozen, Almighty God
informed Muhammad that
he had be sent as a mercy
to all of mankind. Because
people had distorted or
forgotten God's
messages, God took it
upon Himself to protect
the message revealed to
Muhammad. This was
because Almighty God
promised not to send
another messenger after
him.
Since all of God's
messengers have
preached the message of
Islaam – ie submission to
the will of God and the
worship of God alone –
Muhammad is actually the
last prophet of Islaam,
not the first.
What are the teachings of
Islaam?
The foundation of the
Islaamic faith is belief in
the Unity of God.
This means to believe that
there is only one Creator
and Sustainer of
everything in the
Universe, and that nothing
is divine or worthy of
being worshipped except
for Him.
Truly believing in the
Unity of God means much
more than simply
believing that there is
“One God” – as opposed
to two, three or four.
There are a number of
religions that claim belief
in “One God” and believe
that ultimately there is
only one Creator and
Sustainer of the Universe.
Islaam, however, not only
insists on this, but also
rejects using such words
as “Lord” and “Saviour”
for anyone besides
Almighty God. Islaam also
rejects the use of all
intermediaries between
God and Man, and insists
that people approach
God directly and reserve
all worship for Him alone.
Muslims believe that
Almighty God is
Compassionate, Loving
and Merciful.
The essence of falsehood
is the claim that God
cannot deal with and
forgive His creatures
directly. By over-
emphasising the burden
of sin, as well as claiming
that God cannot forgive
you directly, false
religions seek to get
people to despair of the
Mercy of God. Once they
are convinced that they
cannot approach God
directly, people can be
mislead into turning to
false gods for help. These
“false gods” can take
various forms, such as
saints, angels, or someone
who is believed to be the
“Son of God” or “God
Incarnate”. In almost all
cases, people who
worship, pray to or seek
help from a false god
don't consider it to be, or
call it, a “god”. They claim
belief in One Supreme
God, but claim that they
pray to and worship
others beside God only
to get closer to Him. In
Islaam, there is a clear
distinction between the
Creator and the created.
There is no ambiguity in
divinity – anything that is
created is not deserving
of worship and only the
Creator is worthy of being
worshipped. Some
religions falsely believe
that God has become part
of His creation, and this
has led people to believe
that they can worship
something created in
order to reach their
Creator.
Muslims believe that even
though God is Unique and
beyond comprehension –
He has no “Son”, partners
or associates. According
to Muslim belief, Almighty
God “does not beget nor
was He begotten” –
neither literally,
allegorically,
metaphorically, physically
or metaphysically – He is
Absolutely Unique and
Eternal. He is in control of
everything and is
perfectly capable of
bestowing His infinite
Mercy and Forgiveness to
whomever He chooses.
That is why is called the
All-Powerful and Most-
Merciful. Almighty God
has created the Universe
for man, and as such
wants the best for all
human beings. Muslims
see everything in the
Universe as a sign of the
Creatorship and
Benevolence of Almighty
God. Also, the belief in
the Unity of God is not
merely a metaphysical
concept. It is a dynamic
belief that effects ones
view of humanity, society
and all aspects of life. As
a logical corollary to the
Islaamic belief in the
Oneness of God, is its
belief in the oneness of
mankind and humanity.
What is the Qur.aan?
It is the final revelation of
the will of Almighty God's
to all of mankind, which
was conveyed through
the Angel Gabriel, in
Arabic, to the Prophet
Muhammad in its sounds,
words and meanings.
The Qur'aan, sometimes
spelled Koran, was
relayed to the Prophet's
companions, which they
memorised verbatim, and
which has been publicly
and continually recited by
them and their successors
until the present day. In
short, the Qur'aan is the
book of guidance from
God par excellence. The
Qur'aan is still memorised
and taught by millions of
people.
The language of the
Qur'aan, Arabic, is still a
living language to millions
of people, so unlike the
scriptures of other
religions, the Qur'aan is
still read in its original
language by countless
millions of people. The
Qu'raan is a living miracle
in the Arabic language;
and is known to be
inimitable in its style, form
and spiritual impact. God's
final revelation to
mankind, the Qur'aan, was
revealed to the Prophet
Muhammad over a period
of 23 years. The Qur'aan,
in contrast to many other
religious books, was
always thought to be the
Word of God by those
who believed in it, ie it
wasn't something
decreed by a religious
council many years after
being written. Also, the
Qu'raan was recited
publicly in front of both
the Muslim and non-
Muslim communities
during the life of the
Prophet Muhammad.
The entire Qur'aan was
completely written down
in the lifetime of the
Prophet, and numerous
companions of the
Prophet memorised the
entire Qur'aan word-for-
word as it was revealed.
So unlike other scriptures,
the Qur'aan was always in
the hands of the common
believers, it was always
thought to be God's
word and, due to wide-
spread memorisation, it
was perfectly preserved.
In regards to the
teachings of the Qur'aan
– it is a universal scripture,
and it is addressed to all
of mankind, and not to a
particular tribe or “chosen
people”. The message
that it brings is nothing
new, but the same
message of all of the
prophets – submit to
Almighty God and
worship Him alone. As
such, God's revelation in
the Qur'aan focuses on
teaching human beings
the importance of
believing in the Unity of
God and framing their
lives around the guidance
which He has sent.
Additionally, the Qur'aan
contains the stories of the
previous prophets, such as
Abraham, Noah, Moses
and Jesus; as well as many
commands and
prohibitions from God. In
modern times in which so
many people are caught
up in doubt, spiritual
despair and “political
correctness”, the
Qur'aanic teachings offer
solutions to the emptiness
of our lives and the
turmoil that is gripping
the world today.
How do Muslims view the
nature of man, the
purpose of life and the
Hereafter?
In the Holy Qur'aan, God
teaches human beings
that they were created in
order to worship Him,
and that the basis of all
true worship is God-
consciousness.
Since the teachings of
Islaamic encompass all
aspects of life and ethics,
God-consciousness is
encouraged in all human
affairs. Islaam makes it
clear that all human acts
are acts of worship if they
are done for God alone
and in accordance to His
Divine Law. As such,
worship in Islaam is not
limited to religious rituals.
The teachings of Islaam
act as a mercy and a
healing for the human
soul, and such qualities as
humility, sincerity,
patience and charity are
strongly encouraged.
Additionally, Islaam
condemns pride and self-
righteousness, since
Almighty God is the only
judge of human
righteousness.
The Islaamic view of the
nature of man is also
realistic and well-
balanced. Human beings
are not believed to be
inherently sinful, but are
seen as equally capable
of both good and evil.
Islaam also teaches that
faith and action go hand-
in-hand.
God has given people
free-will, and the measure
of one's faith is one's
deeds and actions.
However, human beings
have also been created
weak and regularly fall
into sin. This is the nature
of the human being as
created by God in His
Wisdom, and it is not
inherently “corrupt” or in
need of repair. This is
because the avenue of
repentance of always
open to all human beings,
and Almighty God loves
the repentant sinner more
than one who does not
sin at all. The true balance
of an Islaamic life is
established by having a
healthy fear of God as
well as a sincere belief in
His infinite Mercy.
A life without fear of God
leads to sin and
disobedience, while
believing that we have
sinned so much that God
will not possibly forgive
us only leads to despair.
In light of this, Islaam
teaches that: only the
misguided despair of the
Mercy of their Lord.
Additionally, the Holy
Qur'aan, which was
revealed to the Prophet
Muhammad, contains a
great deal of teachings
about the life hereafter
and the Day of
Judgement. Due to this,
Muslims believe that all
human beings will
ultimately be judged by
God for their beliefs and
actions in their earthly
lives. In judging human
beings, Almighty God will
be both Merciful and Just,
and people will only be
judged for what they
were capable of. Suffice it
to say that Islaam teaches
that life is a test, and that
all human beings will be
accountable before God.
A sincere belief in the life
hereafter is key to
leading a well-balanced
life and moral. Otherwise,
life is viewed as an end in
itself, which causes human
beings to become more
selfish, materialistic and
immoral.

Why Are We Here?

A simple look at the
world around us is all it
takes to understand what
many never take time to
reflect upon. The details
of this awesome universe
we live in explicitly prove
the presence of a
magnificent and
unequalled author.
Some try to deny His
existence, relying on their
invented theories,
assumptions derived from
unproven conjecture and
guesses. They conjure
principles that no rational
mind can follow. For
example, they say that
our universe is a "cosmic
coincidence," a result of
billions of years of
random self-assembly.
However, if they would
come out of their house
in the morning and find a
new car in their driveway,
they would demand to
know who put it there.
Imagine if was said to
them: "No one put it
there, in fact the parts just
gathered from unknown
places and assembled
themselves overnight with
no one's help. This is the
result of a cosmic
coicindence!"
No one in his right mind
could accept this answer.
Indeed GOD gave us
intellects that do not
allow us to believe such
nonsense.
So if people can not
accept the parts of a
single car coming
together randomly, then
how can they believe that
the entire universe
accomplished such a
feat?! From the sky full of
stars and other visual
wonders, to microscopic
organisms we are still
discovering, to the design
and function of the
organs of the human
body, can one possibly
believe that all of this is
the result of a mere
coincidence?
Look up and think about
how everything you see is
organized in such a
perfect way! The sun, a
ball of fire millions of
miles away, provides us
with the heat and light we
depend on every day.
About it, GOD says:
And I (GOD) made a
blazing, radiant lantern
(78:13)
After the length of the
day, mankind indeed
needs a rest from the
warmth and illumination
of the sun. GOD causes
the sun to set and gives
us darkness to rest, and a
perfect nightlight the
moon and the
splendorous stars. What
masterful organization!
GOD says:
He (GOD) has put the
night and the day in your
service, as well as the
sun, the moon, and the
stars - all in subjection by
His Command. Verily in
this there are signs for
people of intellect.
(16:12)
And GOD says:
Don't you see how GOD
merges the night into the
day and He merges the
day into the night, (don't
you see) that He has
subjected the sun and
the moon (to His law),
each running its course
for an appointed term?
And surely GOD is well-
acquainted with what you
do. (31:29)
GOD also says:
Among His Signs are the
night and the day, and
the sun and the moon.
Do not prostrate to the
sun or the moon, rather
prostrate to GOD, the
One who created them, if
you really wish to
worship Him. (41:37)
Today's scientists
comment on the precise
balance of the sun and
moon, guessing at the
innumerous disasters that
would occur if the sun or
the moon were to stray
from their paths the
slightest bit. The rational
mind can come to only
one conclusion, that
indeed something is
keeping all of this in
order. GOD says:
He (GOD) draws the night
as a veil over the day,
each seeking the other in
rapid succession. He
(GOD) created the sun,
the moon, and the stars,
all governed by His
Command. Is it not His
Right to create and
govern? Blessed is GOD,
the Cherisher and
Sustainer of all that
exists! (7:54)
We understand quite
clearly that, since this
paper you are reading
was written, then there
was a writer, even though
you do not see him. And
for every speech there
was a speaker, and every
delicious dish has a cook
behind it. So for every
creation, including our
very existence, there is
indeed a creator.
The Creator is GOD who
is without partners
Now that we agree that
we are not the product of
chance, that we have
been created, let us
understand some things
about our Creator.
The One who created us,
GOD, is also the sole
Creator of everything
else that exists, as He
says:
Such is GOD, your Lord,
the Creator of all things.
There is no god except
Him! (40:62)
Because of GOD's
ominous power and
control over the universe,
it is not befitting for man
to believe that He needs
anyone to help Him. For
verily GOD is Alone and
does not share His
Majesty with anyone. He
is the possessor of infinite
mercy and compassion for
those who obey him, and
His punishment is the
most severe and lasting
for those who turn away
from Him. GOD says:
As for those who
believed and did
righteous deeds, their
Lord will admit them to
His Mercy, and that will
be the Achievement for
all to see! (45:30)
And GOD says:
For those who believe
and do righteous deeds,
He (GOD) will give them
their rewards, and more,
out of His bounty. But
those who are disdainful
and arrogant, He will
punish them with a
grievous penalty, and
they will not find anyone
to protect or help them
besides GOD. (4:173)
As it is not befitting for us
to ascribe a rival, partner,
or associate to GOD, it is
extreme blasphemy to
accuse Him of having a
father, mother, son, or
other descendants or
relatives. GOD tells us:
Say: HE is GOD, the One
and Only; the eternal,
absolute GOD who did
not father anyone, nor is
He the son of anyone.
(112:1-4)
What a tremendous crime
it is to claim that GOD,
the One free from all
imperfections, has a son!
Unfortunately, many
believe that Jesus is
GOD's son! Indeed Jesus
holds a high rank, as the
Word of GOD and the
Conveyor of His Message,
but not as His son, for
GOD is high and exalted
above such a false claim.
About this, GOD says:
They say: "The Most
Merciful (GOD) has
begotten a son!" Indeed
you have put forth a most
monstrous idea! It is as if
the skies are ready to
burst, the earth to split
asunder, and the
mountains to fall down in
utter ruin for what they
say about the Most
Merciful (GOD) having a
son! For it is not befitting
for the Most Merciful
(GOD) to take a son.
(19:88-92)
So GOD is the sole
Creator and Maintainer of
all that exists. He has no
partner or affiliate, as He
says:
Follow what is revealed
to you from your Lord
there is no god except
Him Alone! And turn away
from those who join
other deities with GOD!
(6:106)
Do we owe Him
something?
Now that we agree that
GOD is our only Creator
and Provider, and we
have seen His Statements
denying any partners for
Himself, we want to know
Does He want something
from us?
GOD has a right over us,
as He created us. He is
not asking much. He is
only asking us for that
which he asked every
nation before us that we
obey Him and follow His
Messengers. He has
asked us to worship Him
and not to associate
partners with Him. He
says:
For surely I (GOD) sent a
messenger to every
nation, commanding them
to worship GOD and shun
false deities. (16:36)
It is a very simple
request, taking into
account all He has given
us.
Say: "It is He (GOD) who
has created you and
made for you the
faculties of hearing,
seeing, feeling and
understanding. Little is
the thanks you offer.
(67:23)
We naturally feel the urge
to thank anyone who
gives us something. If we
thank people for their
generosity, should we not
then thank our Lord who
has blessed us with so
much? He reminds us:
And if you were to try to
count the blessings of
GOD, you could never
enumerate them! Verily,
mankind is ever
oppressive and
ungrateful. (14:34)
So to be truly thankful to
GOD would entail
worshipping Him, as He
has commanded us,
obeying Him and
following the Revelation
that He sent to us. In
doing this, we will fulfill
the purpose of our
existence, as GOD did not
create us without a
purpose:
And I did not create the
Jinn or Mankind except to
worship Me. (51:56)
What if we ignore His
Right upon us?
Ignoring the right of GOD
is not like ignoring the
rights of others. For if you
disobey your mother,
then you are subject to
whatever punishment she
is capable of. Likewise,
you may lose your job if
you ignore the orders of
your boss. The judge may
send you to jail if you do
not appear in court as he
requests. But no one can
punish you eternally with
a torment like what GOD
has promised for those
who reject His Message.
GOD is going to establish
a Day to judge each and
every person. Indeed we
will be gathered in front
of GOD to answer for our
deeds. About that Day,
GOD says:
For on that Day, His
punishment will be such
as no one else can inflict,
and His bonds will be
such as no one else can
bind.
(89:25-6)
We have the chance now
to free ourselves from
such a horrible and
unending fate. We must
look to our relationship
with GOD are we fulfilling
His right on us? Are we
worshipping Him as He
commands us?
Be aware that His
punishment is so severe,
that even the most
devout deniers of GOD
will believe in Him after
seeing it.
But when they saw My
Punishment, they said:
"We believe in GOD, the
One GOD, and we reject
the partners we used to
join with Him." (40:84)
If we submit to GOD,
worshipping Him and not
associating partners with
Him, then for us are the
unending joys and
delights that He has
prepared for us in the
Paradise:
And no soul knows what
delights are kept hidden
for them, as a reward for
what they used to do.
(32:17)
For when GOD establishes
the Day of Judgement,
the righteous will hear the
call:
O you resting, satisfied
soul! Come happily back
to your Lord, as you have
gained His Pleasure!
Enter and be among My
servants, enter My
Garden! (89:26-9)
If we hope to hear this
call, then we must put
forth the effort now, in
this life, before it is too
late.
What to do now
Accept the religion of
Islaam. It is what GOD is
commanding you to do:
O you who believe!
Observe your duties to
GOD properly, as He
deserves, and do not die
except as Muslims!
(3:102)
Be sincere and dedicate
yourself to GOD:
Say: "Truly, my prayer, my
sacrifices, my life and my
death, are all for GOD,
the Creator and
Nourisher of everything
that exists, who has no
partner. This am I
commanded with, and I
am the first of the
Muslims." (6:162-3)
Islaam is very easy and
practical. There is no
conversion ceremony or
difficult procedures
preventing you from
becoming a Muslim. The
only thing for you to do is
sincerely recite the
following statement:
"I testify that there is no
deity worthy of any form
of worship except GOD
Alone, and I testify that
Muhammad is His
Messenger."

The ObligatoryConditions For An IslamicHijabUniversity of Essex IslamicSociety

Covering all Of The
Body
It is an agreed position
by many respected
scholars that the face and
hands of the woman must
be covered. Some
scholars say it is
permissible to uncover
the face and the hands of
the woman as long as
there is no fitna
(infatuation) caused by
this action. Two things
must be taken into
consideration
a) if she is beautiful and
beautifies her face and
hands with external
substances, or
b) the society around her
is corrupt where men do
not lower their gaze, then
it is prohibited for her to
uncover her face and
hands.
On the authority of the
wife of the prophet
(pbuh), Umm Salama (RA)
said:
"When the verse was
revealed that they should
cast their outer garments
over their bodies' was
revealed, the women of
Ansar came out as if they
had crows over their
heads by wearing outer
garments.
2.The hijab must not be a
display
The hijab itself must not
be a display. Allah
ordained it so as to cover
the beauty of women and
not for showing off. Allah
(swt) says `And not show
of their adornment
except only that which is
apparent.' (S24:31).
AND
`And stay in your houses
and do not display
yourselves like that of the
times of
ignorance.' (S33:33).
It is in no way logical that
the hijab itself be a
source of display.
3. The hijab must not be
transparent
The purpose of wearing
hijab must be achieved. In
order for the hijab to be
a cover, it must not be
made of transparent
material making the
woman covered only by
name, while in reality she
is naked. The prophet
(pbuh) is quoted as
saying: "In the latest part
of my Ummah (nation of
Muslims) there shall be
women who would be
naked in spite of being
dressed, they have their
hair high like the humps of
the Bukht camel, curse
them, for they are cursed.
They will not enter Al-
Jannah and would not
even perceive its odour,
although it's fragrance
can be perceived from a
distance of 500 years
travelling by camel" This
indicates that a woman
could cause herself a
grave and destructive sin
if she puts on a garment
that is thin and
transparent and which
clearly shapes her body's
features.
4.Hijab must be roomy,
and not tight.
The hijab is a safeguard
against fitna. If it is tight,
it will be descriptive of
the woman's body and
this violates and defeats
the whole purpose of
hijab.
5.The hijab must not be
perfumed
On the authority of
Ad'Diya Al-Maqdisi, the
prophet (pbuh) said:
"Any woman who
perfumes herself and
passes by some people
that they smell her scent,
then she is a Zaniyah
(adulteress)."
6. The hijab shouldn't
resemble the dress of a
man
Imam Ahmed, an-Nissa'ee
reported the prophet
(pbuh) to have said:
"Women who assume the
manners of men are not
from us and also those of
men who assume the
manners of women." Abu
Huraira narrated that:
"The Prophet (pbuh)
CURSED the man who
wears the dress of a
woman and the woman
who wears the dress of a
man."
7.The hijab must not
resemble the garments of
the kuffar
Abu Dawoud and Ahmed
have related the prophet
(pbuh) said: "The one who
take the similitude
(manner) of a certain
people, then he/she
becomes one of them."
Abdullah bin Ummar (RA)
said: "The Prophet (pbuh)
saw me wearing two
garments dyed in saffron
(orange), whereupon he
said: these are the clothes
(usually worn) by the
kuffar, so do not wear
them."
8.The hijab should not be
for fame
Abu Dawoud and Ibn
Majah have related the
prophet to saying: "The
one who wears a garment
designed for a worldly
fame, Allah will make
them wear a garment of
humility on the Day Of
Resurrection then he will
be set ablaze." The
garment of fame is any
garment a person wears
to make themselves look
famous. This applies
whether the garment is
highly precious and shows
admiration to the life of
this world or if it is chosen
of a low quality to show
lack of interest to this
worldly life. The person
may put on clothes with
distinct colours so as to
draw attention, act
proudly and/or
arrogantly.
9.Concealed ways of
display
Examining the various
conditions about the hijab
one can clearly recognise
that many of the young
Muslim women are not
fulfilling these conditions.
Many just take "half-way"
measures, which not only
mocks the community in
which she lives, but also
mocks the commands of
Allah (swt). They consider
what they put on now
wrongly as "hijab" So, O
muslimoon, be mindful to
Allah (swt) and His
Messenger (pbuh), and do
not deceived by those
who "bless" this action of
yours and conceal their
true intentions. Do not be
deceived, and there is no
excuse to follow the evil.
If you are sincere in
achieving Al-Jannah, then
be mindful of these
things, insha'allah
Wassalaamu aleikum
warahmuthullahi
wabarakatahu.

Don’t be like Heracliuswho recognized TheTruth, but instead chosethis brief world overever-lasting Paradise

From last hadith in The
Book of Revelation of the
1st Volume of Sahih
Bukhari:
Narrated ‘Abdullah bin
‘Abbas:
Abu Sufyan bin Harb
informed me that
Heraclius had sent a
messenger to him while
he had been
accompanying a caravan
from Quraish. They were
merchants doing business
in Sham (Syria, Palestine,
Lebanon and Jordan), at
the time when Allaah’s
Messenger had truce with
Abu Sufyan and Quraish
infidels. So Abu Sufyan
and his companions went
to Heraclius at Ilya
(Jerusalem). Heraclius
called them in the court
and he had all the senior
Roman dignitaries around
him. He called for his
translator who, translating
Heraclius’s question said
to them, “Who amongst
you is closely related to
that man who claims to
be a Prophet?” Abu
Sufyan replied, “I am the
nearest relative to him
(amongst the group).”
Heraclius said, “Bring him
(Abu Sufyan) close to me
and make his companions
stand behind him.” Abu
Sufyan added, Heraclius
told his translator to tell
my companions that he
wanted to put some
questions to me
regarding that man (The
Prophet) and that if I told
a lie they (my
companions) should
contradict me.” Abu
Sufyan added, “By Allaah!
Had I not been afraid of
my companions labeling
me a liar, I would not
have spoken the truth
about the Prophet. The
first question he asked
me about him was:
‘What is his family status
amongst you?’
I replied, ‘He belongs to
a good (noble) family
amongst us.’
Heraclius further asked,
‘Has anybody amongst
you ever claimed the
same (i.e. to be a
Prophet) before him?’
I replied, ‘No.’
He said, ‘Was anybody
amongst his ancestors a
king?’
I replied, ‘No.’
Heraclius asked, ‘Do the
nobles or the poor follow
him?’
I replied, ‘It is the poor
who follow him.’
He said, ‘Are his followers
increasing decreasing
(day by day)?’
I replied, ‘They are
increasing.’
He then asked, ‘Does
anybody amongst those
who embrace his religion
become displeased and
renounce the religion
afterwards?’
I replied, ‘No.’
Heraclius said, ‘Have you
ever accused him of
telling lies before his
claim (to be a Prophet)?’
I replied, ‘No. ‘
Heraclius said, ‘Does he
break his promises?’
I replied, ‘No. We are at
truce with him but we do
not know what he will do
in it.’ I could not find
opportunity to say
anything against him
except that.
Heraclius asked, ‘Have
you ever had a war with
him?’
I replied, ‘Yes.’
Then he said, ‘What was
the outcome of the
battles?’
I replied, ‘Sometimes he
was victorious and
sometimes we.’
Heraclius said, ‘What does
he order you to do?’
I said, ‘He tells us to
worship Allaah and Allaah
alone and not to worship
anything along with Him,
and to renounce all that
our ancestors had said.
He orders us to pray, to
speak the truth, to be
chaste and to keep good
relations with our Kith and
kin.’
Heraclius asked the
translator to convey to
me the following, I asked
you about his family and
your reply was that he
belonged to a very noble
family. In fact all the
Messengers come from
noble families amongst
their respective peoples. I
questioned you whether
anybody else amongst
you claimed such a thing,
your reply was in the
negative. If the answer
had been in the
affirmative, I would have
thought that this man was
following the previous
man’s statement. Then I
asked you whether
anyone of his ancestors
was a king. Your reply was
in the negative, and if it
had been in the
affirmative, I would have
thought that this man
wanted to take back his
ancestral kingdom.
I further asked whether
he was ever accused of
telling lies before he said
what he said, and your
reply was in the negative.
So I wondered how a
person who does not tell
a lie about others could
ever tell a lie about
Allaah. I, then asked you
whether the rich people
followed him or the poor.
You replied that it was the
poor who followed him.
And in fact all the
Messengers have been
followed by this very
class of people. Then I
asked you whether his
followers were increasing
or decreasing. You replied
that they were increasing,
and in fact this is the way
of true faith, till it is
complete in all respects. I
further asked you
whether there was
anybody, who, after
embracing his religion,
became displeased and
discarded his religion.
Your reply was in the
negative, and in fact this is
(the sign of) true faith,
when its delight enters
the hearts and mixes with
them completely. I asked
you whether he had ever
betrayed. You replied in
the negative and likewise
the Messengers never
betray. Then I asked you
what he ordered you to
do. You replied that he
ordered you to worship
Allaah and Allaah alone
and not to worship any
thing along with Him and
forbade you to worship
idols and ordered you to
pray, to speak the truth
and to be chaste. If what
you have said is true, he
will very soon occupy this
place underneath my feet
and I knew it (from the
scriptures) that he was
going to appear but I did
not know that he would
be from you, and if I
could reach him definitely,
I would go immediately
to meet him and if I were
with him, I would certainly
wash his feet.’
Heraclius then asked for
the letter addressed by
Allaah’s Messenger which
was delivered by Dihya to
the Governor of Busra,
who forwarded it to
Heraclius to read. The
contents of the letter
were as follows: “In the
name of Allaah the
Beneficent, the Merciful
(This letter is) from
Muhammad the slave of
Allaah and His Messenger
to Heraclius the ruler of
Byzantine. Peace be upon
him, who follows the right
path. Furthermore I invite
you to Islam, and if you
become a Muslim you will
be safe, and Allaah will
double your reward, and
if you reject this invitation
of Islam you will be
committing a sin by
misguiding your Arisiyin
(peasants). (And I recite
to you Allaah’s
Statement:)
O people of the scripture!
Come to a word common
to you and us that we
worship none but Allaah
and that we associate
nothing in worship with
Him, and that none of us
shall take others as Lords
beside Allaah. Then, if
they turn away, say: Bear
witness that we are
Muslims (those who have
surrendered to Allaah).
(3:64)
Abu Sufyan then added,
“When Heraclius had
finished his speech and
had read the letter, there
was a great hue and cry in
the Royal Court. So we
were turned out of the
court. I told my
companions that the
question of Ibn-Abi-
Kabsha) (the Prophet
Muhammad) has become
so prominent that even
the King of Bani Al-Asfar
(Byzantine) is afraid of
him. Then I started to
become sure that he (the
Prophet) would be the
conqueror in the near
future till I embraced
Islam (i.e. Allaah guided
me to it).”
The sub narrator adds,
“Ibn An-Natur was the
Governor of
llya’ (Jerusalem) and
Heraclius was the head of
the Christians of Sham.
Ibn An-Natur narrates
that once while Heraclius
was visiting
ilya’ (Jerusalem), he got
up in the morning with a
sad mood. Some of his
priests asked him why he
was in that mood?
Heraclius was a foreteller
and an astrologer. He
replied, ‘At night when I
looked at the stars, I saw
that the leader of those
who practice circumcision
had appeared (become
the conqueror). Who are
they who practice
circumcision?’ The people
replied, ‘Except the Jews
nobody practices
circumcision, so you
should not be afraid of
them (Jews).
‘Just Issue orders to kill
every Jew present in the
country.’
While they were
discussing it, a messenger
sent by the king of
Ghassan to convey the
news of Allaah’s
Messenger to Heraclius
was brought in. Having
heard the news, he
(Heraclius) ordered the
people to go and see
whether the messenger of
Ghassan was circumcised.
The people, after seeing
him, told Heraclius that he
was circumcised. Heraclius
then asked him about the
Arabs. The messenger
replied, ‘Arabs also
practice circumcision.’
(After hearing that)
Heraclius remarked that
sovereignty of the ‘Arabs
had appeared. Heraclius
then wrote a letter to his
friend in Rome who was
as good as Heraclius in
knowledge. Heraclius
then left for Homs. (a
town in Syrian and stayed
there till he received the
reply of his letter from his
friend who agreed with
him in his opinion about
the emergence of the
Prophet and the fact that
he was a Prophet. On that
Heraclius invited all the
heads of the Byzantines
to assemble in his palace
at Homs. When they
assembled, he ordered
that all the doors of his
palace be closed. Then he
came out and said, ‘O
Byzantines! If success is
your desire and if you
seek right guidance and
want your empire to
remain then give a
pledge of allegiance to
this Prophet (i.e. embrace
Islam).’
(On hearing the views of
Heraclius) the people ran
towards the gates of the
palace like onagers but
found the doors closed.
Heraclius realized their
hatred towards Islam and
when he lost the hope of
their embracing Islam, he
ordered that they should
be brought back in
audience.
(When they returned) he
said, ‘What already said
was just to test the
strength of your
conviction and I have
seen it.’ The people
prostrated before him
and became pleased with
him, and this was the end
of Heraclius’s story (in
connection with his faith).
