Es gibt nicht viele Bücher, von denen man sagen könnte, daß sie für einen die Welt verändert haben - "Geheimakte Mossad" ist so ein Buch. Der ehemalige Mossad-Agent Victor Ostrovsky erzählt, wie er wegen seiner politischen Anschauungen aus dem Mossad herausgeworfen wurde, und dann zusammen mit einer geheimen Untergruppe dieses Geheimdienstes versucht, dessen schmutzige Machenschaften zu entlarven. Schmutzige Machenschaften? Die Unterstützung islamistischer Fundamentalisten in Ägypten zum Beispiel, um die allzu friedliche Regierung zu destabilisieren. Oder der Versuch, Jordanien zu destabilisieren, um aus Jordanien Palästina zu machen (da leben doch sowieso schon 75% Palästinenser, warum schicken wir die anderen nicht auch dahin; so denkt offenbar der rechte Likud-Block). Selbst der Mord an Uwe Barschel geht laut Ostrovsky aufs Mossad-Konto. Wie auch immer - wenn nur ein Zehntel von dem stimmt, was Ostrovsky schreibt, dann leben wir normalerweise ziemlich blauäugig vor uns hin. Am 11. Oktober 1987 findet ein "stern"-Reporter die Leiche von Uwe Barschel. (CDU). Der ehemalige Ministerpräsident von Schleswig-Holstein lag tot in der Badewanne seines Zimmers im Genfer Hotel Beau Rivage. Nach ersten Untersuchungen nahm sich Barschel mit Tabletten das Leben. (1)

Vorausgegangen war dem Tod Barschels einer der größten Politskandale der Bundesrepublik Deutschland: Knapp zwei Wochen vor seinem Tod trat Barschel als Ministerpräsident von Schleswig-Holstein zurück. Er stolperte über die so genannte "Barschel/Pfeiffer-Affäre" (auch Barschel-Affäre oder Waterkantgate genannt). Am Vortag der Landtagswahl erhob das Hamburger Nachrichtenmagazin "Der Spiegel" schwere Vorwürfe gegen den damaligen Ministerpräsidenten: Barschels Medienreferent Reiner Pfeiffer versichert in der "Spiegel"-Ausgabe vom 14. September, dass Barschel ihn beauftragt habe, den SPD-Spitzenkandidaten Björn Engholm zu beschatten und so belastendes Material über dessen Privatleben zu beschaffen.

Zudem habe Pfeiffer in Barschels Namen eine anonyme Anzeige wegen Verdacht auf Steuerhinterziehung gegen Engholm lanciert. Zur Schmierenkampagne gehörte ferner eine Abhöraktion: Pfeiffer sollte ein Wanze organisieren. Diese Wanze war perfiderweise für Barschels eigenes Telefon vorgesehen. Als Urheber der Aktion sollte die SPD beschuldigt werden. (2)

Der Veröffentlichung im "Spiegel" folgte die so genannte Ehrenwortpressekonferenz. Am 18. September 1987 gibt Barschel sein persönliches Ehrenwort und eine eidesstattliche Erklärung ab, dass gegen ihn erhobenen Vorwürfe nicht gerechtfertigt sind: "Ich gebe Ihnen mein Ehrenwort, ich wiederhole: mein Ehrenwort, dass die gegen mich erhobenen Vorwürfe haltlos sind". Wie sich kurze Zeit später heraus stellte, zwang Barschel drei seiner Mitarbeiter zu falschen eidesstattlichen Erklärungen. (3) Eine Woche nach der spektakulären Ehrenwort-Rede trat Barschel endlich zurück. Dabei übernahm er die politische Verantwortung für die Affäre, beschritt aber jegliche persönliche Schuld. (4)

Wenige Tage nach dem Rücktritt Barschels setzte der Landtag einen Parlamentarischen Untersuchungsausschuß ein. Während der Untersuchung stellt sich schnell heraus, dass die meisten Anschuldigungen gegen den ehemaligen Ministerpräsidenten zutreffen. Anfang Oktober forderte die CDU-Landtagsfraktion Barschel auf, sein Landtagsmandat ebenfalls niederzulegen. Barschel - mittlerweile in den Urlaub nach Gran Canaria geflüchtet - kündigte daraufhin seine sofortige Rückkehr nach Kiel an. Am 10. Oktober trifft er auf dem Flughafen in Genf ein. Einen Tag später ist er tot. (5) Offensichtlich wollte sich Barschel vor seiner Rückkehr nach Kiel in Genf mit einem Informanten namens Roloff bzw. Robert Oleff treffen, der seine Unschuld beweisen sollte. (6)

Ob sich der tablettenabhängige Barschel selbst das Leben genommen hat oder ermordet wurde, ist bis heute nicht geklärt. Vor allem die Familie Barschels widerspricht der Selbstmord-Theorie. Klar ist hingegen die Todesursache: Barschel starb ohne Zweifel durch Medikamentenvergiftung. Eines der von Barschel eingenommenen Medikamente war jedoch schon länger nicht mehr im Handel erhältlich. Der ehemalige Geheimdienstler Victor Ostrovsky vertritt in seinem Buch "Geheimakte Mossad" die These, dass Barschel das Präparat von Mossad-Agenten mit Hilfe eines Schlauches verabreicht wurde. Warum das Ganze? Barschel musste sterben weil er zu viel über die Waffengeschäfte des Mossads wusste. Der israelische Geheimdienst lieferte in den 80er Jahren über Dänemark Waffen in den Iran. Nach einigen Schwierigkeiten in Dänemark wollte der Mossad nach Deutschland ausweichen und fragte über den BND (Bundesnachrichtendienst) Barschel um Erlaubnis Häfen in Schleswig-Holstein für die Überführung der Waffen in den Iran benutzen zu dürfen. Barschel lehnte ab. (8)

Zweifel am Selbstmord Barschels hatte schließlich auch die Lübecker Staatsanwaltschaft und leitete im Jahre 1994 ein "Ermittlungsverfahren gegen Unbekannt wegen Verdachts des Mordes an Dr. Dr. Uwe Barschel" ein. Vier Jahre später wurden die Ermittlungen eingestellt. Und das obwohl Oberstaatsanwalt Heinrich Wille einen Anfangsverdacht für Mord weiter bejahte. "Sichere Rückschlüsse", ob diese wichtigen Indizien für Gewalteinwirkung für "Mord oder Selbstmord sprechen" seien jedoch nicht möglich. (9) Zu den Indizien gehörten unter anderem mysteriöse Spuren, die von einem fremden Schuh stammen könnten. Gegner der Selbstmord-These sehen in diesen Spuren Hinweise darauf, dass sich in der Todesnacht ein Unbekannter in Barschels Hotelzimmer aufhielt.
