Some fun I had while finishing up my degree at UNCG. The campus radio station had just had a frequency change from 106.1 to 103.1 to settle an interference dispute with a commercial FM station in Durham, NC. The sign on the wall was to remind everyone to please quit saying the old frequency by accident. The station transmitter only had an output of 10 watts, but the antenna was way up, so coverage was good. Image from 1989.

The degree was in Spanish. A bit strange, I guess. I thought it would be kind of useless for anything but teaching, but I've found other ways to put it to work.

I've always liked radio, and the station was always needing people, so there I sat.

It's hard to imagine 10 watts interfering with anything bigger than a microwave toaster but I know what you mean about the aerial. The station I was momentarily on never had more than 10K to work with, but after they installed a giant aerial they were competing with the 50K blowtorches that were beaming into London.
