for english - oprima el uno

, , ,

Continuing on with things seen on cars recently, today I saw the following words on a bumpersticker:

Why should I have to press "1" for English?

Oh well! It's the world we live in. There's no guarantee that things will always be the same.

I once had some business with a bank in Puerto Rico. English was option "2" there.

the ram is all lubed up

Yesterday, I bought the stuff, so today I did the job.

Image #1: Oil changed, plus the oil and air filters, radiator flushed, chassis lubed, state inspection done. It's ready to tow!

Image #2: Whenever doing routine service under the hood, throw some baking soda around on the top of the battery, brush it around with some water, and rinse it off. This removes the caked electrolyte which can cause current to conduct across the top of the battery and drain it slowly. This battery is nice and clean.

licking cuba

, , , ...

These images are from a few years ago in Havana, Cuba. For some reason licking some Coppelia ice cream was one of my favorite moments of the trip, so I post (repost?) these pictures due to remembering it again today.

Coppelia ice cream is as close to homemade as you can get. You can slide into a blissful mental state as you slurp it down. What better time to think warm thoughts about the Che and the Revolution. :D

Coppelia was where part of the movie Strawberry and Chocolate was filmed.

The image below shows some friends seated at the tourist "speed-service" area. The prices were much higher, but you could eat right away. To get to the real part of Coppelia where most of the Cubans went, you had to wait in long lines as the crowds were huge. Buses dropped off scores of schoolchildren every few minutes to get their ice cream. We decided to pay the price and not fight it.

walmart shopping list

, ,

I try not to shop at Walmart. I really try not to, but they have more camping stuff than anybody.

All the Walmarts in town are creepy.

They are either:
  1. a disastrous dump.
  2. so insanely busy that you can't even stop to look at anything without people knocking into you.
  3. full of employees and/or customers that look like they are out on work release, at best.

The shopping list is this:

  • portable camp toilet, yummy!
  • towing clamps.
  • large jug of motor oil.
  • gas can.
  • staplegun staples.
  • bolt of cheap fabric.
  • 12 volt extension cable.
  • bathmat.

Fascinating, huh?
