Image #1: Near Area 51, the town of Rachel, Nevada is about the only inhabited area.

Welcome to Rachel

Image #2: There aren't a lot of places to buy fuel around here.

Next Fuel

Image #3: The Little A'le'Inn serves a damned good breakfast, plus powerful cocktails if you want one. Unlike many tourist stops, the people were really nice in there. They seemed to have a hardcore hatred of Hillary and Bill Clinton, but I didn't give a damn.

Little A'Le'Inn

Image #4: Rachel, NV, is on the Extraterrestrial Highway, really out in the middle of nowhere. I could live there in a heartbeat as long as there is high-speed Internet....and the occasional alien probing. There was a surprising 5 bar cell signal there, the only one for many, many miles.

Extraterrestrial Highway Sign

Image #5: Suddenly German tourists appeared. They were a little too buff for my taste, but it was something to look at for a few minutes.

AleInn.....priceless.

I wonder if there's been any movies about this place or, at least, filmed in the area.

Hmmmm....maybe not. It would cause too much commotion and too many earthlings roaming about for the powers to keep an eye on.

I think it was mentioned on The X-Files, and probably some others. I was amazed at the fun and kindness of the people running the place. So many tourists places are run by burnouts.

Also, the "next fuel 45 miles" was for the direction from which we had come. The direction we were going, the next fuel was about a 100 miles. :yikes: Towing a trailer over high passes makes the engine very thirsty, so we had to watch it.

As usual, when one is in an unusual place with limited communication, the credit card company will decide your charges don't fit a pattern and block the card until you call them. At that "last fuel 45 miles" place, I got a nice decline. I did, however, have a backup plan.
