This won't be the typical beer/tequila cookout because it's Mother's Day and my mom is coming over, so we have to be good. We're cleaning the house like mad and the yard is mowed.

We should have a my opera cookout someday. It would be a good yard party, and you know, it's just not a good party unless the police show up.

The pics are from the 4th of July, last year. As troubled as I am by current events, the 4th is still one of my favorite holidays.

Our typical cookout shopping list includes:

• margarita mixer and tequila
  
• soft drinks (¡refrescos!)
  
• chicken and barbecue sauce
  
• ears of corn
  
• baking potatoes
  
• whole okra to char on the grill (it's really good!)
