mexican food, sc, gwen franny's, work
...
As I crisscross the Carolinas this week for work, one of my stops was
Hardeeville, South Carolina. They have good food and Internet there. Hardeeville has a local net provider and my hotel was connected to it. The upload/download speeds were mind blowing. My cable net connection at home is from a national carrier, and while the download is great, the upload sucks.
I ate both the
soul food and the Mexican seen advertised in the following pictures. The soul food wins in this town.
I like the mix of English/Spanish in the images.

windshield wiper, weather, rain, driving
...
I'm having to do a lot of driving for work this week. These images were taken on I-26 in
Lowcountry, South Carolina.
In the second image the wipers are on high but visibility is about zero. Traffic continued to move about 70 MPH (112 KPH). I stopped at a McDonalds for a sundae until it got better. Price, $1.09.

Cheap safety! Hey, I was taking pics while driving. Was that bad? lol.

sc, 24 bruce road, greenville, road to recovery

A street sign I spotted near Greenville, South Carolina.
This road to recovery was very short, about 200 feet, so you would be able to recover very quickly.

nasty, sc, motel 6, south carolina
...
Another week on the road in South Carolina.
I went to Olive Garden for lunch to fill up on salad, and now I'm in the lobby of another badass Motel 6 because the wifi signal is weak in my room. A guy in a Lincoln pulled up screeching the tires. He ran up to the hotel desk and asked the woman there, "I need a room for 45 minutes, just 45 minutes, you got anything?" She stepped away for about a minute, came back and said, "$20...cash". He tossed a twenty, she tossed the key. I couldn't help but glance into the passenger side of the Lincoln. NASTY! lol.
Love for sale...rooms by the hour.

We'll leave the light on for you.

mcd's, mcdonald's, golden arches, mc donalds
...
All this week and last I had to work so early. Sometimes I have to arrive at a plant at 2 or 3 in the morning. By today, Friday, I was exhausted and once again driving to work while still dark out. I was hungry, and hungry for just one thing,
an Egg McMuffin. The trouble was that it was just a minute after 5AM and most McDonald's aren't open that early. Lo and behold, I spotted this gleaming oasis in
Clemson, South Carolina open at 5AM on the dot! I took this picture after having had two Egg McMuffins and two cups of their sumptuous coffee. The first signs of daylight appeared over the McD's as I pulled away and continued my driving.

endless enchiladas, sc, greenville, texmex
...
I'm staying in the lovely and cheap Microtel Inn on I-85 near Greenville, South Carolina for two days this week as I complete a couple of jobs in the area. The Microtel has some good wifi, yay! There is an
On The Border Mexican Restaurant almost next door, so that's where I went for lunch.
Reedplayernc and I love these places and hope they open one near where we live, soon. The food they serve is of the style "Tex-Mex", which is more or less "Amercianized", or "gringo-ized", Mexican food. People often complain that it's not authentic, but we love it! "On The Border" reminds me of the old
Chi-Chi's restaurant chain that was popular during the 1980's. It just ain't a real meal if it doesn't come with chips and salsa first.

Image #1: The entrance. The entire building is gawdy and fun, inside and out.
Image #2: The food server suggested the current special, the $8.99 "endless enchiladas." You can have as many as you can eat. They come in beef, chicken, or cheese and onion.
Image #3: My "endless enchiladas" arrive looking like the picture in the menu. I had one chicken and one cheese and onion enchilada....two times! I'm back in the hotel now feeling bloated. They were really good.
