halloweenie musica

, , , ...

C'mon now, you know SomaFM is where it's at for net radio. They have a channel called Doomed, very haunting. I usually listen to Tag's Trip (Progressive house / trance. Tip top tunes), but I'm trying to set a mood for Halloween.

We're going to the party at the local club/disco tonight after all the trick-or-treaters come by. I only hope there is enough room in the back yard to bury them all.

More info on it later.

waking up to club music

, , , ...

Woke up this morning and flipped on the usual streaming net radio, Soma FM. Juliet's "Avalon" (Jacques Lu Cont remix) was on. What a nice way to get moving in the morning. "Avalon" reminds me of being in a nice heavily air-conditioned club in the summer, while sipping on a cold cocktail with some Hpnotiq in it, and watching some nice "culo" go by.

get my fix of morning trance

I enjoy waking up to a good coffee, some e-mail, the opera community, and some trance from SomaFM. My favorite channel on Soma is Tag's Trip. Trance music has a bit of an edge to it, but at least it's usually melodic and it gets me awake for the day. It also reminds me of many nice clubs and bars I've been to around the world. I love to walk into a good club that has heavy air conditioning, people dancing all over, and getting myself a nice freaky drink, usually some shade of blue or green. I'm well past the years when people would buy me a cocktail in a club. :D Now I have to do the buying, and there are NEVER any strings attached.

There's a myOpera community member who is a great DJ who uploads music that I like. His name on opera is Dedo Digital. His latest set is called Ave. Fenix (beta version). I love it and he's got it available for download.

High-speed net has done so much for aural pleasure. I'd love to hear of some other net radio stations where people like to get music.

finally spent my five dollars of free downloads

Some weeks ago, I made a post about Amazon sending me a coupon good for $5 of free mp3 downloads. We were listening to somafm's massively good "Xmas in Frisco" channel when we heard the strangest thing, Christmas Klezmer music. It was the Klezmonauts with their "Oy to the World" album. Sold and downloaded! It's a lot of fun.

morning routine when not working

, , , ...

I like about a two hour net session when I get up on a free morning.

Here's the approximate routine:

  • Struggle to the bathroom to wipe the glop out of my eyes with a washcloth.

  • Put on the coffee. I like freshly ground beans and the French press method of brewing it. So yummy with a half teaspoon of sugar and a splash of soymilk in it.

  • First thing online, I check my messengers to see if anyone left me a message overnight. I prefer the Jabber messenger, but will also respond to ICQ, Yahoo, and AIM. I like it when there are a bunch of messages left for me in the morning. Please do this! My about page will give you a couple of them.

  • After the message check, I stop all the overnight file transfers I had running on BitTorrent. Usually, overnight, over a gig has uploaded, but in the morming I want all the bandwidth just for me! Strangely enough, I only share legal files, like Linux iso's, or ogg music files from jamendo.com.

  • Next thing is to get a little music throbbing to get me awake for the day. The Trance over at somaFM is particularly good.

  • Then I get my e-mail. I have a several accounts with different purposes, and Thunderbird gets them all with a single click. I don't use Opera for e-mail. I prefer it only as a browser, and a darned good browser it is. I can spend ages looking at the e-mail, as I like to get a lot of reminders and newsletters this way.

  • Then I hit MyOpera! This can be a real time killer. I look forward to seeing what has happened while I was sleeping. I still find it a miracle to see messages, comments, and blog posts from such far-flung places as Moscow, Tehran, Vietnam, Washington state, and even revolutionary Cuba! It sure wasn't that way when I was a child.

  • Next is some news from DemocracyNow and tech fun from slashdot.

  • On some mornings I will then proceed to look at some certain special binary files. :D

  • Lastly, a hot shower!

What do you like to do when you get up?

soma fm, and divbyzero - good net radio

, , , ...

SomaFM is one of my favorite net radio stations. They are hurting for funds and requesting linkage, so the link is below. They have a lot of enjoyable channels. It's free, have a listen, then donate later if you like. Their t-shirts are nice. I have two!

SomaFM independent internet radio

I also like divbyzero.de for good trance.
