dark knight exposed the darkness of man...

this is hailed as the most successful film of all time, and genre blending breakthrough with commercial success and art-house appeal.

what is the big deal about this sequent to Batman begin?
this is the one batman film that the action sequence is as exciting as the storyline.
the villain is even more intriguing and outstanding than the protagonist.

batman was first called to fight corruption in his beloved Gotham city. but this time round, there is a district attorney who became the white knight of the city who is incorruptible and fighting the 'dirty cops' and triads along with the police chief. however he is once again called to save Gotham city from an irrational villain that the police and the triads have no ability to control.

enter the villain who are not motivated by power nor money. he just want to be a 'better class of villain'. here come the spoiler...
the Joker just wanted to expose the sinfulness of man. there can be no better way to do that than taunting the 'hero' of the city to 'tango' with him. he wired 2 ferries with bombs and gave each ferry the detonator. they have up to 12 midnight to blow each other up if not they will both be destroyed. one ferry was filled with the criminals and the other the citizens of the city running away to mainland but both of them could not do it. it was not the outcome that Joker expected from the people.
after he failed to create anarchy among the people, he turned the white knight of the city, the righteous DA to the dark side. Harvey DA became Harvey 2 face after the death of his fiancee and went after the 'bad' cops who were involved. he proved that even the most righteous is fallible even the right stimulus.

what make us good, righteous?
what motivate us to do bad?
can we raise up to the occasion and do the right thing?

is there a dark side in all of us waiting to be nudged out?
is there conscience in us that God created us with that give us the courage and strength to do things that we were never expected to do.

there will always be a Joker out there testing you, you can be like the common citizen and the harden criminals of Gotham who decided not succumb to the threat or be Harvey 2 face who give in to his rage.
who would you be?

'the bank job' is the only time you take pity on the robbers...

this movie is supposedly based on a real story in the hippie era.
the robbers in the movie is the victim of a more elaborate set up by a top secret agency.

they robbed the bank and yes they got away with tons of British pounds. but they were set up and their lives were in danger.
the script was well written and the acting was good.

it was a tinge of sadness at the end of it.
the protagonist wanted to do the 'job' in the first place to be somebody.
to have done something, and of course the money to get him out of poverty trap that he sees himself in.
for the others, they too were motivated by the need to cover up their mistakes, to cover up shame, fear of losing that significance in society.

is that what we feel many a times in our life, we wanted to do something sensational or noteworthy.
and it can be anything regardless of ethic.
this is the same sentiments display by juvenile criminal i befriended. he felt that he being in a gang and raising up on the ranks in the triad give him self esteem and worth.
when i asked him about the ethic issue surrounding it, there was silence except that claim to fame that he could not gotten elsewhere.

this desire for significance showed up in different forms in our community and context; the sports heroes, the scholarship winners, the worship leaders, the fashionable popular kid.
there is nothing wrong with it, but we can be so consumed by it, that we side-step all the important things and values in life.

only God can give us that significance unconditionally.

we are worth so much to the Creator of the universe, He created the perfect dwelling place before He created us, died for us and continue to be our God.

what else you did to do to worth your worth?

Bruce Almighty ... not that great playing God...

most of us, at some point of our life...
whether out of frustration about life not dealing us the right cards or when people irritate us beyond out threshold.
or just curious what God does.

storyline not vastly different from most of the feel good movie but there are gems in the script and of course Jim Carey's rubber face.

Bruce was given a chance to be God, (spoiler here!!!) it is not a treat but a test... make better movie than Job's test...
Bruce was all excited when he was given the power of God, make the fire hydrant burst just for fun, control the weather and everything without a soul.

then come the hard part...
to be God is to be the involved and loving deity, you need to answer the prayers of the people!
at least attend to them.
he was so overwhelmed by the numbers of prayers, even after answering millions of them, he still have millions more. he did the ultimate lazy thing but in his eyes the best thing, 'yes' to all the prayers.
all should be well right.. everyone prayers were answered....

NO!

there were riots, angry people, hurting people ....
in reality, not all answered prayers are good for you.
your prayers for winning the lottery were answered, so were the other 1 million who bought the tickets. people lose faith in the system and in the government.
it can spiral to civil war.

then the limits of being God because He is love
every human He created, He created them with a soul that desire for Him and life
and a free will to love, to hate and do what they want.
God can control the wind, the storm, can move mountains, create the universe and all things in it
but He cannot and will not control your will.

He cannot and will not force you to love Him.
in desperation when he can't make his girlfriend to love him despite of all the things he has done, Bruce asked God (played by Morgan Freeman) ' how can you live with free will?'
but God did and will continue to give us the freedom to love or to hate Him.

so what do you think of God now?

life is good... just a tee shirt company?

in my quest to be learn more widely and try to think laterally...
a good friend suggested that i know a little more about the company that produced that nice blue drinking bottle that i bought..

it is was a short 30min dvd that reflects the philosophy of the company...

life is good,
do what you like... and like what you do....

spread the good vibes...

see life as half full and not half empty

what would jake (that smiley face icon) do? (and do what he would!)

after watching the glowing comments from the empolyees, chief optimists (COO and CEO), retailers, customers...
it is a real feel good PR and at times mission statement.
the 2 guys who started this wanted to spread optimism with the stuff they make.. tee shirts, bottles and anything that bring this message.
they see good in people and everyday can be a great day, if you make it to be great.

as a christian, the message of "life is good' resonate within me.

1. the spreading of goodness... there is goodness within all of us...
sit well with my judeo christian theology of all created in the image of God, all have the capacity to be perfect by marred by adamic sin.

2. spread the love, uphold justice, bring the good news of Jesus Christ to all... is that not spreading the good vibes? but just that our vibes needs more unpacking.. more than just feeling good but morally right...

3. life no matter how bad can be seen as half full. there is hope! we can't see it but it is there.. the almighty God is in control... not just finite human.

4. what would jake do when there is an issue? what would Jesus do at crunch time? what would jake do when missing this shipment means the retailer would miss 1 week's worth of retail opportunity for these goods? you will stay back in the weekends to make the shipment date...
would jesus not do otherwise?

there are times when Jesus and Jake will differ in opinion...
jesus would not mind upsetting people when he tell them about eternal salvation. but Jake might not. he rather all have fun and steer clear of religion and politics.

i could build a PR program in promoting the church and youth ministry with Life Is Good but with a twist. life is good.. with Jesus only!
