Main page of Cuil.com

Since yesterday Google has a new competition. It's called Cuil*(pronounced 'cool') and was created by Irishman Thom Costello and his wife(former Google lead engineer) - Anna Patterson.

Thanks to use of new search technology it was able to index over 120 billion web pages - 3 times more than Google and 10 times more than Micorsoft.

Rather** than rely on superficial popularity metrics, Cuil searches for and ranks pages based on their content and relevance. When we find a page with your keywords, we stay on that page and analyze the rest of its content, its concepts, their inter-relationships and the page’s coherency.

Another important issue is privacy, especially now that many people have their doubts about Google policy of keeping track of average Joe's activity on the internet. With help of cookies it holds your browse and search history for over 2 years.
Cuil.com on their info page assure that with them your privacy is safe:

(...)when you search with Cuil, we do not collect any personally identifiable information, period. We have no idea who sends queries: not by name, not by IP address, and not by cookies (...). Your search history is your business, not ours.

With better known opponents like Microsoft, Yahoo! or Google Cuil.com may have hard time to surface and become the number one in search engines world but it would be interesting to see if this project will be succesful or ends up forgotten after few months.

Batman: The Dark Knight

, , , ...

Batman is like coffee: dark and bitter. It’s not a family movie. You won’t enjoy it if you expect(yes Mona – EXPECT ;P) the likes of Spiderman. Because ‘Dark Knight’ is not white-and-black, it’s full of shades of grey.
Bruce Wayne is fighting bad guys with success until Joker appears. Joker sets his own rules, is unpredictable. And just agreed to kill Batman. But on the scene we have another hero – Harvey Dent who is District Attorney, brave man who fights criminals and corrupt cops in courtroom. He is being aided by Rachel who is very much in love with handsome and ambitious lawyer. And when those three seem to be successful in their battle against outlaws – Joker appears and changes their lives forever. Luckily Batman is no more elegant and charming Bruce Wayne we know from the first movie – he is a real Dark Knight and to fight his opponents he won’t back off from using their own methods.

The movie itself is long, but not too long. There were 2 or so moments when I thought it will end. It didn’t and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s a strong and dark movie – some heroes fall and other will be called murderers. And love may not always be enough to save them.
Fans of Inspector Gordon will be happy to know he is very important character and plays a major role.
I also have to mentioned great roles of Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman. They don’t appear too often on the screen but without them it wouldn't be the same.
I expected one thing to happen: Two-Face to be Batman's archenemy in the next movie. He won't but if you want to know why - you better see for yourself.

Stars? 8/5 -- best movie I've seen in a while
