exercise, spring
Spring is absolutely my favorite season of the year. Unfortunately it is also my most de-motivating when it comes to my responsibilities; like work and chores. I never want to be at work in the spring; I'd much rather be outside. I get distracted much more easily and my household chores seem to fall by the wayside. I did do SOME spring cleaning over the weekend, but not nearly what I should have accomplished. I have started a new workout routine through my health insurance website though. I just hope I can stick to it. It is more flexible, which is good thing. I won't stick to something if its too repetitious (boring). I only have to go to the gym twice a week and I do yoga and cycling the other two days. That should help, because I really dread going to the gym to lift weights. I don't mind the tread mill or yoga but weights are so boring to me. I'm trying to even out my strength level. I have great lower body strength, but my upper body strength is for crap. I must have the weakest arms in the world, mostly because I don't engage in activities that use upper body strength I guess. I like cycling, soccer, and horseback riding that mostly use lower body muscle groups.

cycling, Maplewood Bicycle, Trek 1.2 WSD
Well I had a day off on Friday and what did I do?...I decided to buy a new bike. I really have to stop taking days off; it always costs me money. But anyway, my husband talked me into going over to Maplewood Bicycle and look around at what they have. So they immediately set me up for a fitting to determine what size bike I need and it turns out that I needed a larger bike then I thought. All this time I've been thinking I needed the petite frame and according to her measurements I'm actually a medium. It's a Trek 1.2 WSD (women's specific design) and I really like it, except for the color. It's last year's model so they knocked off money for that and I couldn't justify spending an extra $155 for a different color. So my only real hangup with the bike is the color (it's blue and white). I really don't like blue, but I should just get over it right? As long as it does what I need it to do and has good components, color shouldn't matter. The components are actually a little better than the Felt bike I've been looking at (it was purple), plus our friend said that the geometry on the Trek is better for me. So all in all, I'm pretty happy with it. Now if the weather would warm up just a bit more, I could head out on the trails.

cats, pets
I hear people say all the time that you wouldn't understand uless you have children. I beg to differ. I have three animals; one is a 17 yr old cat. I wake up every morning, go into the bathroom and my cat is sitting on the sink meowing her butt off and she won't quiet down until I turn the water on for her morning drink. When she meows it sounds like "Mom, Mom, MOM!!" It gets louder the longer you ignore it. She will stand in the middle of the hallway, where she gets the best acoustics and meow as loud as she can until you answer her. Its like a cat tracking device. If you're in another room, she meows until you answer so she can tell where you are in relation to her. Plus she always wants to be held in the morning. It's so cute, she raises one paw up in the air like she's giving you a high five, which translates to "hold me". So I think that's a lot like having a child; except the fact that she's 17 and acts like a perpetual toddler. Plus the added benefit of having a cat is that mine comes with a warning siren for when she has to throw up (unlike kids); she will find the one spot in the house where she knows I don't want her to be (my hardwood floor or area rug) and then meows with this low gutteral meow that sounds like someone shoving a sock in her mouth. Then you only have about 5 seconds before the puking begins. So you have to find her and quickly pick her up and move her to a tiled surface in the house that's easier to clean before she pukes all over you. She also does a traveling puke; she'll throw up, walk 3 steps and puke again. But I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world. She's the only cat I've ever had that will come when you call her, she's really affectionate, and a great lap warmer while I'm typing this. She's the best!

Tonight is another trivia night to support the Missouri Wildlife Organization that my friend used to work for. I think it is a good cause and plus it gives me a night out with the girls. I'm not sure how much help I'll be, but I'll give it my best shot. The thing with these trivia nights is, you never know what the categories are going to be, so you take your chances. I don't expect to win anything, but if we do, that'll be nice. Its a themed night (Mardi Gras), so I picked up some left over decorations for a buck each at the grocery store, so at least our table will be decorated. Ooh, plus I have a purple table cloth that I can bring too. It seems that everyone is bringing a dish for dinner, so I'm not sure what to do on that front. I've already eaten; maybe I can bring dessert. Plus I really don't like mardi gras food (jumbalaya, gumbo, etc.) Anyway, I'm hoping for a fun night out.

So last night we had Lemon Sole on papillotte on a bed of vegetables from a video I found from Gordon Ramsay. I must say with the slight modifications I had to make for lack of certain ingredients, it still turned out very well. Its a really good way to cook white fish. I have always been a firm believer in steaming fish with herbs and veg. On the barbecue I make a tin foil packet and cook it on the top rack. This version you roll the sole in dill and then put on a bed of herbs and veg, then put in a parchment envelope; add a little salt, pepper, a drizzle of olive oil and a splash of white wine and Voila!
