Sunflower

Here is a picture of a sunflower that I found at a county park during a recent fall fun day.

Great Blue Heron in a Tree

Here is a picture of a GBH in a tree along the Gunpowder River near my house.

Well fractured my right arm

Did something real stupid last Thursday. I was out doing yard work when I decided to take a break and get some lunch. Started down the slope in the side yard when I felt my feet start slidding. Next thing I know I am down on my knees with my right arm in front of me which was hurting. I got my self off the ground and into the house.

I told my wife what I did and promptly passed out on the sofa. Next thing I know I am looking into my oldest sons face while the wife was on the phone with 911 operator. Ambulance comes and takes me to the hospital. They take x-rays and determine that I fractured two bones in my lower forearm. They put me into a fiberglass splint and send me on my way.

So today I have to see an orthopediac doctor to go from here. Of course, it has to be my right arm that I do everything with. So no picture taking until this heals. Well this will give me time to edit some pictures I have been meaning to do.

Well here is a shot I took two weeks ago. Not very good because of not enough light.

Great Blue Heron at Resevoir

I took my oldest son to the local reservoir to get him out of the house. I have driven thru here many times and have seen a Great Blue Heron. When we were going thru today there he was flying over the river below the lower dam. I got out of the car with my son and managed to get this shot.

Gray Catbird

Last week I found a nest in the bushes that is being occupied by two gray catbirds. This morning before leaving for church this one was on the railing outside the door. I know there are more around since I keep seeing four at a time flying around the house.

White Breasted Nuthatch

Here is a whitebreasted nuthatch that was on the feeder over the weekend. It is rather scaggily looking isn't he?

I discovered that two gray catbirds have built a nest next to the house. I will try to get some pictures later today and post tomorrow.

Fox Next door

Well it seems I have a fox who roams thru the neighborhood that I have finally seen. My wife and I have always known they have been around especially since we found a dead one in the yard about ten years ago. Anyway my wife saw the fox about a two weeks ago going thru the neighbors yard. By the time I got out there with the camera all I saw was the back end going up the street and into another neighbors yard.

On Thursday night last week he came back going the opposite direction but he followed his same route. This time though I had the camera. I managed to get four shots but two did not come out good (camera shake) and the last two came out dark low shutter speed. I worked on both of them and here is what I got.

Hopefully he will come back and I can get a better picture next time.

Cromwell Valley Park, Towson, MD

,

I went on Tuesday to a local park that the county that I live in has been using for the last ten years. The bought three farm properties from the owners so they could create this park. If they had not the properties probably would be housing developements. They have activities for children and hiking trails to walk.

While there I notice a bird sitting on top of this post around the children's garden. It is an Eastern Bluebird I think.

When I got home I cropped the picture down to just the bird. I was shocked to be able to see feathers on it. I guess a Canon 50D does a pretty good job.

I will have to go back since the area is teaming with other birds. I was told there is a fox family located on the property besides white tail deer and other animals.

Thanks for looking.

Black-Capped Chickadee

I was sitting on the front porch today. There was alot of activity at the feeder. I liked these two pictures the most.

Coming in to land on a perch.

Uncooperative Hawk

Here is hawk that has been flying around my house for the last two months. He stays just out of reach of my lenses. I hope to a better shot when he does cooperate.

The first time I saw him in late January he was in tree in the neighbor's yard displaying his feathers.

Then yesterday I saw him again fly into bushes across the street. He came out a minute later sitting on a branch. Not a very good shot of him but it will have to do for now.

Hopefully I can get a better picture in the future.
