That's so right. Peace is balance!

Matthew 14. September 2008, 11:34

I have a hard time with Joel Osteen. So much that he says is right on target. Then I look at the size of his Church. :eyes:

You're not the only one Matt.
Still this line is true, an obvious truth we learn ourselves while growing up.
I'm still waiting for the person that actually learns one to master it, instead of spraying known theory, and making huge bucks of other's people experiences. :eyes: :D

solid copper 14. September 2008, 11:59

He worked hard on it. Perhaps you should learn where he came from and how he started. I read his book and consider him fine, although I do not subscribe to the same religious faith.

daxonmacs 14. September 2008, 12:02

Sure Copper that's fine with me, I just don't take anything what's written down in a book for granted. The above link also says he hasn't yet been involved in sex or drug scandals as many other televangelists have been.
Which, in my opinion , speaks for him.
Glad he was able to make a buck though :D

solid copper 14. September 2008, 12:11

The above link is seriously biased in my opinion. It is easy to take things out of context and distort the meaning of the words of the people you dislike and prejudice against.

daxonmacs 14. September 2008, 12:14

That's possible. I agree with the quote and I don't know Joe Olsteen. The only televangelists that are known here in Europe were involved in scandals, so that speaks for him.
I agree , seriously biased.
But to learn about an unknown topic, learning pro and contra even if they are extreme is the easiest way to get in touch, knowing truth is somewhere in the middle.

solid copper 14. September 2008, 12:52

It is unlikely for him to have a sex scandal for a long time to come, in my view. He and his wife are a very loving couple who support each other. I find him an excellent preacher. He talks about God all the time, contrary to the accusation; it is just that he chooses to focus not on explanation of the biblical text but on how to apply wisdom in the bible to daily life. Preachers all have one emphasis or another. He knows his strength is not in script explanation but in inspiring people. People like to listen to him. Focus on where your gift is - there is nothing wrong with that. It is an incredible stretch to say that he does not know the Bible.

daxonmacs 14. September 2008, 13:10

Well put Solid Copper ! I read that blogpost again and the writer is indeed seriously biased. The subject of Joe Olsteen would never stand a chance for an objective approach by him or her imo.
I'm not planning on buying his book though.
Also religious leaders or spiritual leaders should do just that, too often quoting the Bible was explained as knowing the Bible. While in my opinion a preacher or religious leader has another role, more community driven.

Matthew 14. September 2008, 14:29

He seems a good man. He also has amny good and insightful things to say. I just find it hard to juxtapose the kind of man he seems to be with the kind of man I believe it takes to run an organization of the size and scope of a Church that fills the Astrodome and reaches millions worldwide.

solid copper 14. September 2008, 14:40

He works in a team and he is inpiring and he uses his gift well. He quit university deciding to combine his telecommmunication interest with church businesss, with support from his father, who initially pushed him hard to become someone just like him. He got a lot of good sense from his father and took over his father's church when he died, which was very small then.

Well, you can doubt Bill Gates as well.

daxonmacs 14. September 2008, 14:45

Which we do :D

Matthew 14. September 2008, 14:57

I think Bill Gates is a decent man, too. I have the same reservations with regards to the size of his business, though. It seems to me that empire building, while it may lift people with you, also leaves damage in its wake.

Bea 14. September 2008, 16:19

cool quote

solid copper 14. September 2008, 16:22

Glad you like it, b.

Matthew 14. September 2008, 22:51

I'm sorry my statement about Osteen distracted from a thread about a quote that is, indeed, both true and transcendent.

Ehsan 15. September 2008, 10:20

somtimes peace is as bad as war

daxonmacs 15. September 2008, 10:26

It's about inner-peace esikhafan

Ehsan 15. September 2008, 10:40

i see, thanks

Babs 17. September 2008, 20:54

Great quote, SolidCopper. I have to agree. However, in this day and age, with our lifestyles so busy, I find that having to study such things as learning to meditate, getting into yoga and finding things that help you relax so you can reach inner peace is an ongoing battle with our Selves.

solid copper 17. September 2008, 20:59

Thanks. Day dreaming and reading will do, too.

Babs 18. September 2008, 04:08

Hey - I'm back - Had to go help my brother. I love day dreaming, but all I've had time to read lately is my books from class. I could use a break!

solid copper 18. September 2008, 04:48

Just woke up. But have already tried to get your day dreaming going again, in Dax's blog. :right:

daxonmacs 18. September 2008, 04:57

Ce n'est pas une blague, elle l'a fait. :D
