Disappointing stuff

feelings

This is the most deceptive and pathetic Farmers Market I have seen in North America. Not only is the scale of the thing small, but two thirds of the vendors are neither farmers nor profiters selling farming products. I was already surprised at the lack of a traffic jam walking towards it. I parked my car far away in anticipation of parking difficulty. But it turned out there was no need.

I bought nothing. The only thing that interested me was orchids, but they were too expensive. Most of the booths were selling crafts - not really arts and crafts but small jewelries. I don't mind looking at clothes, but not kids clothes. The few farmers there did not have much of a stock and their products were dull. Okay, maybe they were organic, but it was like I myself could pass on as a farmer by standing there with a few garlics or onions. I hardly saw anything green. The two carrots I saw were two little orange odd balls, not even in normal carrot shape. Anyway, it was a scene of scarcity, reminding me of Europe in WWII and China in the 1970s, with a long queue the only thing missing.

Those are not normal market stands, are they? We call such things party tents, you find them in a lot of back gardens.
Am I to understand there's a picture of you with garlic and onion coming soon?

Our farmer's market in Bloomington has turned into a crafts fair, though there are good local vegetables and fruits available. You just have to wade through a lot of nonsense to find them.

But local farmers sell there products by the road, too, at lower prices and thus profitable for both customer and farmer.
We do have however eco-markets, where people are made extra aware of some products and the newer friendly and healthy products get introduced.
If you're curious about trying some delicious and healthy mealworms, this would be the place to go to.
