Like A Teapot

"Enlightened or not, it is all the very same. Have a cup of tea! "

A New Vietnamese Restaurant

,

I tried out a new Vietnamese noodle house last Thursday in a neighbouring town where I conduct most of my business. Oh my god their beef noodle soup is so good! When I first sat down and examined the menu, I was not too happy. I was expecting a better price considering the existence of two competitors nearby and was also disappointed that they only offer two sizes for the beef noodle soup, regular and large. Their regular charges more than others' small or medium, almost one dollar more after tax. But when the food arrived, I realized that I should not complain - the quality of their food is better, the soup clear and very tasty. I liked the taste so much that I drank up all the soup, even though I was already very full. I nearly went back the next day and ended up revisiting on Saturday.

It's a nice clean place, judging from the pictures you took and that beef noodle soup looks delicious.
I think I spotted some spinache, is that right?
You're not abandoning the sushi bars now, are you? :D

That's lemon grass for flavour, dear. It's very, very delicious.

The place looked a bit empty because it was late at night. They open until midnight.

Ah, thanks for enlightening me.
It makes me hungry.

More enlightening: the noodle is rice noodle but it is submerged in the soup and not seen in the picture. The white things on top are bean sprouts, sprouts of mung beans (green beans).

40 minutes till lunch time. You're making it hard for hungry me.

.Everyone who tried vietnamese noodle soup first time and liked it does the same
I would invite you two bowls: one beef noodle soup and one chicken soup...once you have a chance to visit Saigon hehehe. It's more tasty than that. And if you feel that you like to come back...I would invite "double" again :jester: :D

But don't call it "Saigon" while you're there.

I like the Vietnamese equivalent of eggrolls ... they're some smaller than the Chinese ones, and usually served with a sprig of something like dill. I could make a meal of just them.

Are those noodles in the soup like the Korean noodles that our GIs used to call "nylon noodles"? I've always liked them.

I love Saigon rather than HCMC .

Do you mean 'spring rolls'? I call them spring rolls and usually taste with dill, salad & sweet fish sauce. You are good chef, i guess.
I think Vietnamese noodles in the soup is different. Noodles is thinner and softer than Korean.
I'm glad to know you like Vietnamese food

Whatever happened to Cape Kennedy?

Seriously, Solid, you are coming out of your shell. Is that you in profile? We seem to be being fed snippets of you.

But now I am hungry too, off home for some chips I think.

Northern British song called "Skol skol skol skol" goes like this.

Skol skol skol skol
Skol skol skol skol
Skol skol skol skol
Skol skol skol skol
Skol skol skol skol
Chips curry skol skol sko-oh ooah!
GRRRUUUAAAAGHGHG-uohop!
Sko-eew-ngh-agh....

The last verse tends to vary from place to place but the chorus is quite easy to remember:

Skol skol skol skol
Skol skol skol skol
Skol skol skol skol
Skol skol skol skol
Skol skol skol skol

Can't wait for the slow cooker to make you stuff, weatherlawyer? Or do you only use it while studying clouds?

What do you mean I am coming out of shell? I've been out for some time. Yes, that's my profile.

Yes, DpRabbit, I love Vietnamese beef noodle soup and some other cooking too which I understand is influenced by the French in the colonial days.

dW: those huge eggrolls found in US midwest are Americanized stuff. The narrow deep fried ones are spring rolls made by southern Chinese who speak Cantonese. Made by Hong Kong Chinese and Vietnamese Chinese too.

I left the cooker with the friend I was staying with last. I never used it. I got a toaster I left in the shared kitchen in this place and that disappeared so I won't be spending a lot on the necessities of life whilst here.

What a dog pile the area is.

I can't describe it without uncouth language.

ok, now I'm hungry

studio41 5. September 2009, 09:39

bummer. am hungry about now. this place looks really nice, solid.

solid copper 6. September 2009, 00:30

Haha, so many who stopped by got hungry.
Yes, the place is quite nice and surprisingly spacious, Jill.
You would need to drive up to San Jose to have authentic Vietnamese food, late bloom. That is where most of the Boat People admitted by the United States went. Over one hour drive though, but you have two routes to choose.
Thank you for offering to treat me in Saigon, DpRabbit. I would love to go there some day. It is a fascinating place to me.
I hope you have got some snack, weatherlawyer. And I hope you could describe the place. :D

studio41 7. September 2009, 06:09

 would enjoy that.
