Like A Teapot

"Enlightened or not, it is all the very same. Have a cup of tea! "

Taking care of both ends

I have not been to my old favourite Vietnamese noodle house for a while, because the last couple of times I was there I found the service less good and their soup less tasty than when I first found them over two years ago. I went there again on Monday night because I was visiting the grocer next door and they do have a better price. I was disappointed again. They tried to cheat me out of lemon grass for my beef noodle soup and the soup lacked the usual flavour. Yet they were willing to spend money on a clean bun technology in the toilet. I was surprised at their deeds and suspected change of ownership. My suspicion was confirmed when I paid the bill. They said that happened a year and a half ago. Well, that explains everything. I will not visit them again, despite the heart-warming, bun-protecting technology they invest in. I will stick with another popular (busy) older noodle house and the new, more expensive one that I found last month.

A sensible decision, well-presented.

 Glad you approve.

Very well put!

Glad you like it. :D

That's good copper :D

Does anyone wonder why the water looks like this? It is very puzzling to me.

WoodRat 6. September 2009, 11:33

Had you just flushed it? It looks like ripples on the water surface from the bowl either emptying or filling.

solid copper 6. September 2009, 11:43

Ah, must be that.

derWandersmann 6. September 2009, 15:54

Where is the restaurant situated? It looks a little like standing waves set up by vibration, maybe from a truck going by outside, or some machinery in the restaurant.

debplatt 6. September 2009, 16:06

@WoodRat and @derWandersmann -- So what's this fascination with toilet bowl water?

WoodRat 6. September 2009, 16:16

Yes, well, we're just providing reasonable hypotheses for the observed phenomenon.

derWandersmann 6. September 2009, 17:17

Yup.

That kind of toilet has always seemed a little weird to me.

There are toilets in Japan that talk to you, and which have heated seats. And I think that solid copper mentions elsewhere that there are toilets in Japan that have jets of warm water pointed at your posterior to cleanse you after the act.

In comparison, the toilet above is very low tech

solid copper 8. September 2009, 03:47

 I cut that paragraph off, because I recalled that when I first mentioned it to my boss and colleagues (all American males) they just kept giggling, as if I were crazy or something. I saw those in Japanese restaurants in California.

solid copper 8. September 2009, 03:57

As for the water, I think that I flushed the toilet but I did not photograph it immediately afterwards. I photographed it only as an after-thought. That is why I was puzzled.

I like your wording, WoodRat. Check out this older post of mine from another blog. I should have said "observable phenomena" over there, though "observed phenomena" is not wrong.

It's a common feature in French washrooms ... usually a separate fixture, I believe, and it's called a "bidet".

Which, incidentally, is the reason I smile when someone wishes me a happy bday.

solid copper 8. September 2009, 04:10

You're sure you weren't giggling, dW?

derWandersmann 8. September 2009, 04:17

Only now.

daxonmacs 8. September 2009, 06:14

It couldn't be caused by the seat wrapper itself? The ones I saw made a lot of noise and were vibrating like hell. I think :left:

solid copper 8. September 2009, 08:31

I did not touch that thing. For some reason I did not want to sit on it.

daxonmacs 8. September 2009, 08:54

It didn't automatically put on a new seat wrap after flushing?

solid copper 8. September 2009, 09:03

No, there is a large iron handle on the right for rolling out the sheet.

daxonmacs 8. September 2009, 10:31

That's silly, it should be automated instead.
Not that it is going to trouble you anymore.

solid copper 8. September 2009, 10:43

Well, it is the kitchen behind the wall. Maybe the vibration came from there.
I visited the other older restaurant on Saturday and have its photos on a new post.

I read your other blog copper, isn't the field economics fascinating!
