Like A Teapot

"Enlightened or not, it is all the very same. Have a cup of tea! "

Life Track

, ,

I have come this far
And am still steadfast
The past is behind me
The future is not bleak

Though I carry scars
And am burdened by memories
I am glad to be still alive
And still march like an intrepid

That's a nice poem for me to read today - because it's my birthday! :hat: Thanks for posting!

solid copper 21. September 2009, 01:40

 Glad you dropped by.

One of you liked the picture and the other liked the poem - perfect! You brightened my day!

debplatt 21. September 2009, 02:06

I like both! The colors and the composition of the photo are very nice. The poem was excellent. I felt encouraged by it as well...

solid copper 21. September 2009, 02:16

Thank you, Deb. I am encouraged by your encouraging words.

Scars are the badges of a courageous life and the memory burdens will someday be treasures of a journey well traveled.

ColinKillpatrick 22. September 2009, 03:25

Is That a SkyTrain station in New Westminster? Either way, great photo!

solid copper 22. September 2009, 09:27

@Jim: Your words got me misty eyes. Thanks for the encouragement.

@ColinKillpatrick:
Yes, that is the SkyTrain station in New Westminster. Good eyes! Thanks for the comment.

happy belated birthday to yooperprof

solid copper 23. September 2009, 08:46

Thank you, Jill, for the nice comment.

I really wonder what yooperprof ate on his birthday, as part of his charmed life, flat feet and holes in sweaters notwithstanding.

studio41 23. September 2009, 09:20

you will have to ask him

solid copper 24. September 2009, 07:51

@ColinKillpatrick: About the name of the SkyTrain station, I have given it some more thought. Turns out the previous answer is wrong. It is Scott Road station in Surrey. Across the bridge is New West.

The next station across the bridge is Columbia station where I was to change trains, from the Expo Line to the Millennium Line that goes to Burnaby. That station is completely inside a tunnel.

If you look very carefully on the dark panel on the very right of the photo, there are the letters Sc which is for Scott Road.

Nice shot!

Are you using "intrepid" as a noun?

In poetry, it is not uncommon to bend or break the rules of grammar (see poetic license).

If solid copper wished intrepid to be used as an adjective, all she'd have to do is add the word one to the last phrase.

derWandersmann 24. September 2009, 18:34

Exactly.

But you'll notice that there is no punctuation, so one doesn't know if the sentence is ended.

Hence the question.

Thinktank1 25. September 2009, 06:02

"an intrepid" is fine. Solid does not need to qualify by adding that she is an intrepid explorer, an intrepid traveler an intrepid adventurer. She is all of these, and so 'an intrepid' poetically is acceptable. The poem is clean and eloquent. Let her march like an intrepid, for that is what "intrepids" do, they march. Consequently we have created a noun for the purpose.

derWandersmann 25. September 2009, 08:22

LOL ... precisely. I was inquiring, not because I was unfamiliar with this type of usage, but simply to clarify.

solid copper 25. September 2009, 08:34

You are not laughing at wee hours in the public library, are you, dW? Or have you got one of your old machines fixed?

Thank you for the kind words, Graham. :D

Thank you, too, Deb. It's indeed used as a noun.

derWandersmann 25. September 2009, 15:23

Fixed the old Dell Dimension 4400.

I think.

I hope ...
