Getting on with exercise

,

After hiking, which in my case is more like walking really, I have picked up biking and yoga.

I have explored parts of the city bike trail. Sad to report, however, that it was done on feet. So far I have only biked in my neighbourhood to get a feel of my new bike, which is quite different from the one I used years ago. This mountain bike runs slowly on city streets due to too much traction; but, since most of the bike trail is unpaved, it is a suitable purchase. Our city streets are too narrow and unsafe to bike on. On part of the bike trail, however, I need to worry about bears and devious humans.

On the right is where I take my yoga class. It is a totally new thing for me. And I am happy to say that I really like it and feel its benefits immediately. It puts me in a good mood and does wonders to my body, not only toning muscles but also improving digestion and elimination. It is my luck to have an excellent teacher, a woman who communicates superbly and commands respect. She seems to pay special attention to me as well, correcting me promptly and effectively. Well, I am a fast learner. Hehe.

I have uploaded two new photo albums. Bike Trail and Beautiful British Columbia - Pitt River in April.

A mighty long walk

, ,

Today I walked on this delightful bike trail that runs parallel to a good passage of the salmon running creek. All together I walked about ten kilometers and was feeling the muscles tightening on the sides of my hips on my way back. Luckily I was wearing comfortable shoes. Otherwise it would be the muscles on my thighs and calves that ached. I have been thinking about getting a bike for a while. I should really get my hands on one this season.

Half the time I took the risk to tread down a slippery slope to be close to the creek in the hope to get some good photos, but the water was still low although it had turned into a nice greenish colour.

It was a sunny and unusually warm day, but I suspect the pollen level in the air was high because I could not stop sneezing. I had prepared several packages of facial tissues but they were all used up. I decided to stop by Starbucks for a rest and some tissues as soon as I got back to city center.

I am not a big fan of Starbucks, but I really like the ambiance of this particular one. Unlike another one that I passed by all the time, which is a bustling meeting place of local singles, it is quiet. It has good decors and excellent service, too. I had been there once for Chai tea and it was the first resting place I thought of in town. The girls are used to servicing businessmen and city employees and are very warm and polite. Today I discovered they serve green tea latte as well, but I did not order that as I could make it at home. In a haste, I ordered a cup of cappuccino, which I do not have often.

A great afternoon walk

, ,

Yesterday afternoon I had a walk around a different lake with a friend. The sky was overcast with occasional sunshine. I got some beautiful pictures of lakescapes, people, and animals. I was very excited and happy about it. But I was also very tired afterwards. In fact, I had gotten tired in the middle of it, as I had to catch up with my fast walking friend and everything seemed to be in such a great hurry. Good physical excercise though. I will have to return there by myself sometime. This lake, not the most beautiful one in the area, is a bit far though.

Trans Canada Trail

, ,

I have made a new photo album showing a passage of the Trans Canada Trail that I make use of.

Lots of people use this trail, both young and old. Some stroll slowly with their dogs and thoughts; some walk very fast taking it as an excercise routine. I tend to walk fast when I walk alone, if I am not taking pictures. I naturally walk fast. Luckily my hiking friend also walks very fast. I have no patience waiting for slow walking people, unless they are elderlies. I will show another trail another time.

Blend, blend, blend

, ,

Ever since I got this blender this past Christmas, I have been blending like crazy. Every day I whip up something, which is good, until operation moves from morning to late evening. Sometimes I blend twice a day. This happens when I would suddenly feel like having something cool and delicious after a hot evening shower; I proceed to the kitchen instead of the bed. The consequence is I go to bed with a full stomach.

Though fully aware of the problem, I cannot help it. The blending choices are virtually limitless, and I so like to experiment. The latest trial was blending apple, carrot, and ginger, with some orange juice added in. At first, with just a little bit of ginger, it was good. Then I got greedy and put in three times as much ginger. The whole thing became terribly hot and I had to neutralize it by adding more orange juice. Luckily, the end result was not too sweet as I had feared.
