language, opera mini, media
Opera Mini 5 beta does not install on my samsung phone. I am becoming a monk. What? You don't know no monks? Why don't you get stuffed, get lost, and leave me alone?! You freaking don't know no monks!

Ah, dullard
What a wonderful word
A lovely invention
Of the English world
Single-minded people who are judgmental
Self-righteous folks who know very little
Why engage them in battles
Just give them the grand title
Yes, dullard
Such a useful word
A handy weapon
In the brave new world

language, Chinese, Opera
Just downloaded Opera 9.6.3 Chinese version. It looks a bit different, with black, dark red, and grey on top. It is said to be specially designed to be more compatible with Chinese websites, which I still need to find out, through searching Chinese sites, I guess. It has no inline spellcheck, of course. But it looks sleek.
[update] Holy smokes! I just tried googling some popular Chinese websites, and boy is it fast! Much, much faster than before! In the past it seemed to take forever for those pages to load. I am really impressed.

language, politics, broadcasting, Canada
...
Wow, tonight's French language debate among Canada's five political leaders was really boring!
Each leader had a designated interpreter to provide simultaneous English translation for TV viewers. The moderator had one as well. It is obvious that all but one interpreters are natural French speakers. As they all carry an eccent, the thing became really dull after a while. Remember the debate format was more like a round table discussion. The least dull voice was that of the female interpreter who provided voice for the female Green Party leader; her tone managed to match the leader's fiestiness.
I was watching in bed. In spite of my deep interest, I soon felt asleep.

politics, language, broadcasting, Canada
...
Today is a big day in Canadian politics. The first televised pre-election leaders debate is scheduled tonight. It will be in French with English traslantion provided. A second debate, in English, will be held tomorrow night. Both cannot be missed; as, among the five political party leaders, only two are natural French speakers and they will have their advantages and disadvantages in the two debates.
It is a bit weird that French would go first in almost all offcial ceremonies. It was certainly true in my Canadian Citizenship Ceremony. I was asked to swear loyalty to a certain Queen first in French and then in English. Of course I kept my mouth shut until the English version came. Needless to say, I also had my lips sealed during the French version of the national anthem. When I stood there and listened to those standing next to me speaking and singing in French without inhibition, I was really amazed. Then I realized that they had brought with them the lyrics and oath sheets, which I had left at home.

blogging, Chinese, language
I am reading some Chinese blogs again. It has become possible after purchase of a new desktop. They are usually quite interesting to read. Since the platforms that host them are not easy to access in China, those who do manage to access them usually do have something interesting to say. And they tend to be my kind of blogs, true and personal. The kind that I attempted and would like to maintain.
Lately there is quite a bit of social networking activity at this blog site. It is not bad, but not good either. Catching up comments and messages require too much energy. Increasingly I write elsewhere.
Reading a different kind of blogs helps put things in perspective. It reminds me why I liked to blog.

language, feelings
People who hang "Refresh my mind!" on the corners of their mouths should be hanged. Only senior citizens, teachers/professors, busy CEOs, and people recovering from a coma should be exempted.

"It was so freaking hot yesterday that even virtual sex got unduly interrupted." Hopefully this will become classic someday, ideally way before this phase of climate change is over.

language, feelings
Today, I swear, without a holy book (don't have one) and to someone else's God (again, don't have one myself), that, from now on, I shall use goddamn yellow smilies much more often in my digital communication with whomever.

life, language, thoughts, blogging
Glorious spring day. I am not truly living if I don't go out for a stroll.
I can feel the warmth of the sun sitting indoors and I want to put myself directly in the shower of sunshine. In fact I feel poetic on this and for a second have thought of writing a post in my native language. I have had elegant Chinese phrases on washing spring light swirling in my head.
Why do I continue to write in English? The answer to this question is a similar one to "why do I continue to blog here?" which I have asked myself many times lately. I have thought of terminating this blog in February on its one-year anniversary. One true easy answer for both questions is I view this as an exercise to improve my English writing.
I know my limitations. I don't make awful grammar mistakes, but I also don't have a vast enough vocabulary to write at ease when descriptive writing is called for. I wish I had a lot more adjectives and verbs up in my sleeves. I need to constantly edit my sentences to remove redundant elements, too; as I believe in being simple when it comes to sentence structure, not that I am incapable of constructing complex sentences.
There are other minor points of consideration. But a stupid truck is making huge noise outside and getting on my nerve. So I'll stop for now.
