Like A Teapot

"Enlightened or not, it is all the very same. Have a cup of tea! "

New week resolution

, ,

I should really take care of myself more. My body, my general well being, and my habitat.

After three days of falling back into the habit of eating late, I had dinner relatively early tonight. It was finished before 7:30PM. But that is because I was starving by 7:00PM with a light lunch that contains fruits only. I did not sleep well last night because I went to bed with a full stomach.

I woke up tired this morning and did not do the chores that I had planned to do. I postponed it once more. If I had slept well, I could have easily got it done with. It all started with eating dinner late. A vicious cycle I must break. Besides, when I sleep my beauty sleep, I look a lot better the next day.

Yes it's the fallback of routines.
I don' like routines too much, but they seem to develop in our lives.
Sometimes they are handy, mostly they draw one back or keep one locked in a cycle.
Making it harder to snap out of it.
What else but trying to break the cycle, with detrmination and persistence, changing a bad routine into a better one, gaining energy and satisfaction.
To be put to use where else needed.

You'll succeed I am sure.

I think routines ae important - particularly excercise and cleaning. They permit us to succeed at something small every day, and that is good for mental health, especially when you are not happy about failing to accomplish things. Success begets success! I know that exercise was instrumental in my treatment for depression - probably moreso than any medication.

Sometimes they are handy, but aren't you confusing discipline with routine?

By daxonmacs, # 21. July 2008, 17:22:38

avatar
Perhaps. But it's the routine that makes discipline possible, in my case. I have to get up and exercise. If I try to "fit it in," it's just not going to happen.

Possibly because you don't like to exercise
Well cleaning goes further than that too.
In a household filled with bacteria our immunity system gets overloaded with work, leaving less energy for other things.
As for exercising, it makes the heart pump blood around and supplies our body with oxygen.

Both give pretty immediate result this making us happier people

I love exercise, once it becomes routine. it's getting into the routine that is difficult.

Yes that might require some discipline

Routines provide structures that can be enabling or limiting.

About wellbeing and eating. It's only 3 years since I started to eat breakfast every morning... I have always had difficulties eating in the morning. For many years I just had coffee. Most mornings now I have to force myselt to eat. But it has helped me to feel better. :chef: So, Copper, I think you are on right track, eating in proper times is important

how can you force yourself to eat? i have a very hard time eating within the first three hours of my waking moments. i have begun to drink cold fresh water instead of that pot of coffee when i begin my day. by the time i am hungry, three hours later, i am really hungry and don't have the time to stop work to satisfy my hunger. i'm pitiful and need help -- got any suggestions? oh i know, a special flavor of ice cream every morning might do the trick!!!!!!! :wait:

1Bluebox:force yourself to lightmeals for dinner, and I don't mean "ligh!", but those that digest easily. Resist any temptation for snacks afterwards and you'll awake with a hungry feeling.
If we book a visit to the UK we are offered the choice:continental breakfast ( sandwiches and coffee/tea ) or traditional/local. I say go for traditional/local it makes so much sense to have a decent hearty breakfast, since it is the fuel for the rest of the day.
What do we do after a hard days work and dinner? So why the need for a hearty meal at those hours?
Good luck.

I agree with my friend above. The breakfast "is the fuel for the rest of the day". I had to change the way a took all my meals, to get more balanced. I dont get so tired during the day after the change.
Before the change: no breakfast, double portions of lunch, some chocolate our other sweets on the home from work, double portion on dinner and som sweets after that.
After the change: breakfast, a sandwich our a fruit to the coffe, 1 portion of lunch (more veges, less potatoes and pasta), a fruit on the afternoon and a light meal at night, no sweets.
I also started to do more physical excersices, I try to run at least 25 km a week.
Most mornings I still don't want to eat breakfast (except when I am in Beijing: the hotelbreakfast with lots of choices, a combination of western and chinese food, mmmmm) but to think as Dax suggests helps me. My body and brain needs fuel in the morning

good suggestions, thanks. they make such good sense too. now to train the brain to control the habit, to allow for the better physical being. challenge accepted solid!

It's easier to accept and make sense of suggestions from men, eh?

By solid copper, # 23. July 2008, 06:52:00

avatar
not necessarily -- suggestions come from people, imo. but for me a suggestion has to simple and straight forward for me to understand it -- then, i still get it wrong many times. that's why i have the nickname DAD #1!

hope you have a good day today solid. i believe it is you who started me thinking about joining you in taking better care of my physical being! thanks.
