You might be able to function properly the rest of your life and not know that today is National Doughnut Day in the United States of America, but... I'll tell you anyway.

This isn't something I keep track of, but I read an online newspaper article about it and then read up on the subject in wikipedia, which says the event was created by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.

I personally rarely eat doughnuts, although I will happily accept one when offered at work, which happens perhaps once every few months. That ought to be seldom enough to not affect my health adversely.
