DemoDay: Winner

, ,

And the winner is... 'Trine' - game by an independent Finnish studio Frozenbyte.

Do you remember 'Lost Vikings'? Add to this decent graphics, physics and more vigorous action. That's Trine. It was really worth to test several failures before reaching the pearl. Game's beautiful, addictive and really well done (not only comparing to failures below ;-)).

Just have a look and make sure you see video as well (and try demo if you're not scared )

DemoDay: Failures

,

No, the title is not 'Failures'. It's a place for games I didn't like... It's not even that I don't recommend them. I warn you

First game is 'Wanted: Weapons of Fate'. IGN Score: 7.3. Good joke... The only thing I liked is menu. But only first seconds of using it. Changing video mode was terrible (not to mention mouse cursor didn't map properly to what was highlighted on the screen ), no possibility to set vsync on (yes I can do it in driver...), no way to play with pad (at least in demo) - I thought it's console game in first place... More - characters were moving like in mud, steering was counterintuitive, using weapons was a good joke - you had better feeling that you fired gun in old Wolfenstein 3D or Doom..., graphics I wouldn't say it's really nextgen...

Verdict: try only at your own risk. Here are pics:

Second game was 'Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason'. IGN Score: 6. Just take a look... WTF!? A Valve competitor?

Game is supposed to be a shooter and takes place in completely frozen environment where heat is what you need to survive. Game does not look good (IMHO), and is poorly optimized... loading screens are really obscure and... Honestly maybe that's not fair - but I got tired too quickly with this title and if I have ever considered buying and trying I will not do so anymore...

Other games I would like to warn you about are:

  • Smashing Toys - a cart racing game, Actually loading a level was taking so loooong I closed game after one minute loading before really starting  It felt like on C-64... It's just it wasn't that cool without "LOADING." on 40x25 screen  And game didn't allow me to choose native video mode for my LCD (1920x1200)...
  • Gravity Core - ah, flying a spaceship inside a cave is not for me I guess...
  • Lights of Dreams - couldn't even handle setup screen before starting game... pressing anything had quite random effects on what was happening on the screen... has anyone tested it before releasing? good it has compiled

I'm not providing links for the above just for your personal safety...

DemoDay: Flock

, ,

The second game I tested was 'Flock'. What made me curious first was the game's domain name - motherflocker.com  Then it was few minutes to have it installed

The game is basically about herding innocent poor animals into the alien mothership. You are flying on the alien f-saucer (aka UFO) which has super gravity beam that allows you to play tricks on the environment (destruction, rings , building) and even to quickly remove wool from sheep

If you want to try it - go and see game's website above... Here are pics:

DemoDay: And Yet It Moves

, ,

Today I made myself a demo day. I have carefully chosen a few titles, downloaded them, installed (one failed already here...) and ...tested (surprised?).

The first game I tried was 'And Yet It Moves'. It's platform game where you can, apart running and jumping , rotate the world... It's nothing new - I saw that in LocoRoco for PSP already - but here the mechanics and concept are slightly different. And design  What to say more - take a look and try demo here if you want...

BTW if you see something looking like a black hole somewhere - it's a black hole - don't dare to jump there
