Spring

Would you believe it been snowing for the last hour or so, This week has also seen the first day of the year with a hint of warmth to it. The same day I had to go to the hospital for some tests. It seems that whats wrong isnt what they thought was wrong, I`m getting used to results like that though.

?

I have a longing to get away, just hit the open road. Head for the mountains or the woods. Leave the real world behind. Breathe in a place I have never been before. Wonder what is around the next corner.
And for a guy who hates change.... I need some.

Now its seems that I may be going to London Later this year, my leg and other health permitting. But before that I think I need somewhere more sedate. We were thinking of Birr and its famous Castle.
there are the near by monastic ruins of Clonmacnoise right on the Shannon. The Slieve Bloom mountains are located in the area, covered in forests and blanket bogs. It must be worth a photo or two hundred.

Hopefully before the end of April if the weather improves a bit we will head off.

A Tall Tale
He punched the wall, leaving shredded skin on the rough concrete surface. A hint of pink in the grey.
The endless drudgery, the monotony was getting too much.
He had it all, but it wasn't enough. The joys of childhood were far behind, no matter how hard he tried the little things could never bring the bright shining euphoria to his mind anymore.

He had Grown Up.

Would that class as a short story?
Or is it just a paragraph?
Which ever, it is the first bit of fiction I have put down since my school days.
I do not harbour thoughts of being a writer and have not for years now, definitly a reader not an author.
There are few things in the world to top the feeling I get when I first pick up a book I have never read before. The potential of what may lie between its covers gives me a rush. The stories, the knowledge, theres nothing like it. I have rambled on for more than long enough.
Beware the tyranny of your own brain!

Lovely, lovely photos, Richard

You have a bit of cabin fever, I read. Well, researching where you want to go will help. I've got it, too; especially since my broken-down van has been in the shop for over a month awaiting a part!!!

Snow! We had a brushing here. Now it is raining.

I just read a book by Elia Kazan called "America, America". Gosh, it really opened my eyes as to how different an existance oppressed peoples have in Asia. This book dealt largely with Greek-descent people in Turkey, although a part described attrocities done to the Armenians.

Did you ever read it? Apparently it was made into a black-and-white movie. Some people consider this movie a classic. Did you ever see it?

Great photos indeed - but I' rather comment on your prose.

I consider that short prose - because of the strong picture it creates. The shredded skin on the concrete - a hint of pink in the grey. That image will stay with me for a while.

Maybe you should think about writing some more?

The imagery you create in that short prose is very vivid  I agree with Allan - write some more!

Good luck with your travel plans, too.

I've always enjoyed reading your posts sprogger, and I consider them writing.

I see you're listening to the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack. Have you ever watched an episode?

Oh yes, I can recommend Birr castle. Lovely grounds.

And the Leviathan is well worth the trip if you like that sort of thing. I'd love to see you model it.

Ricewood - thanks for the kind words mate, as to writing more it is a case of finding the time and concentration, not forgetting the inspiration.

Homer: Doh! Should have known.

Are you into anime in general? What other titles do you like?

Mickey - I am quite a fan of animation in general. When it comes to Anime I am more into the science fiction type rather than the martial arts extravaganzas.
Ghost In The Shell- in all its incarnations, 3 movies and 2 seasons of episodes.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_in_the_Shell
Akira- of course, which there is talk of turning into a live action film or 2
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akira_(film)
Metropolis-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolis_(anime)
Sky Blue- Also known as Wonderful days. Beautiful art.

A few others on the shelf that I havent watched yet
Steamboy, Perfect Blue, AD Police, Patlabor, Appleseed, Voices of a Distant Star
I have heard Good things about most of them.

I was looking forward to Steamboy, (steampunk and anime, two of my favorite things) but when I finally did see it I was a bit disappointed. I found the plot had big holes and didn't hold together that well. It seems like there were chunks cut out of the film. It also made the main female character appear bi-polar. Her pesonality semed to change from scene to scene.

I heard that they had production problems, they kept changing the software they were using which would allow for better quality on the visuals. They kept reworking the film and eventually ran out of money or time and had to release it with some of it revises and some unchanged.

Howl's Moving Castle was terrific, did any of you see that?

Spirited Away was great, too.

By momable, # 25. May 2008, 22:41:34

avatar
Seen both, in fact I've watched almost all of Studio Ghibli's films.

I have watched most of Studio Ghiblis stuff and while most of it is amazing I found some to be real snooze inducers. I cant recall which are which right now though
